Description:

Overall, the position is responsible for providing support to the Main Dining Rooms, Buffet and Crew Mess during service and ensuring cleanliness of these areas at the completion of service. Responsible for beverage and table maintenance in an assigned station of the Buffet as directed by management. In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Overall • Assist with achieving departmental guest satisfaction targets and food and beverage revenues through efficient turning of tables and capitalizing on beverage service in the Buffet. • Complies with all company policies, rules and regulations. • Follows and is compliant with all Public Health rules and regulations. • Responsible for safeguarding all equipment and materials required for operation by adhering to proper handling procedures. • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position. Main Dining Rooms • Performs the functions of escorting guests and/or resetting tables when required by work schedules. • Assist with Waiters and Assistant Waiters with stocking, cleaning and maintaining waiter stations throughout service. • Ensures that the restaurant public areas are cleaned per company and USPH standards at the end of each service. Crew Mess • Ensures mess rooms are setup with all food, beverage product, condiments, sign stands, utensils, china, glassware and silverware prior to each service. • Maintain food line throughout service. • Maintains cleanliness of tables throughout service. • Cleans and sanitizes food line, beverage dispensing machines, and restocks all of the china, glassware and silverware at the end of each service. Buffet • Ensures that assigned station is properly setup with the required amounts of equipment and mis-en-place prior to the start of service. • Clean tables in assigned station throughout service. • Complies with sequence of service for beverage to ensure timeliness of service to guests in assigned station. • Ensures satisfaction of service with guests in assigned station and assists with or resolves any service and/or product deficiencies that may occur. • Perform side work such as silverware roll-ups, emptying trash, and stocking/cleaning beverage station. • Ensures that assigned station is properly cleaned and set-up at the end of the meal period and that all assigned side-work is complete. • Performs other jobs as assigned, to include but not limited to manning non-cooking buffet action stations (i.e. carving station, dessert station). DIMENSIONS • Must be able to service a station consisting of 10 tables. • Must be able to carry up to 16 glasses using a tray. • Must be able to perform general cleaning duties to rooms and equipment.

Education:

High School diploma, or GED Equivalent. • Secondary Education degree or equivalent is mandatory. • Courses and or training in safety, environmental, public health and sanitation regulations and procedures are required.

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year previous restaurant experience in a land-based or shipboard operations. • Must have previous experience selling and serving wine and other beverage products.

Responsibilities:

- Ensures that the restaurants are properly cleaned at the end of each meal period, & according to the schedule & company standards. - Provides prompt, attentive & courteous assistance & help to waiters & junior waiters. - Assists restaurant staff in maintaining the side stations clean & organized during meal periods. - Experience in handling an oval tray holding clean/soiled restaurant equipment. - Helps ensure that all restaurant equipment & materials are in good working order, condition & are kept secure. - Assists the management in collecting & storing of all supplies & sundries. - Strives to minimize breakage & wastage, & follows proper procedure when disposing of garbage - Follows company guidelines regarding uniform, personal grooming & hygiene. - Helps maintain the sanitation of the restaurants at all times, in accordance with USPH / FDA and SEMS rules and regulations. – - Follows guidelines relating to the correct use, sanitation & maintenance of all restaurant equipment. - Effectively communicates any problem, challenges, complaints or service difficulties/feedback immediately to the waiter in charge of the assigned section. - Performs other related duties assigned by the immediate Supervisor on duty. - Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection policy and SEMS; carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position. - Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements:

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) requires all crew members employed with NCL America aboard the Pride of America to hold a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC). In order to qualify for a MMC, applicants must demonstrate the following physical abilities necessary to perform shipboard duties per USCG guidelines (COMPDTPUB 16700.4 NVIC 04-8). If the applicant has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40.0 or higher, or if the verifying medical practitioner doubts the applicants ability to successfully perform any of the following functions, a suitable practical demonstration is required for those functions. The verifying medical practitioner, in consultation with any other qualified practitioners he/she deems appropriate, determines whether a practical demonstration is necessary, and whether the applicant is physically competent or not physically competent. • Is able to maintain a sense of balance without disturbance while walking and standing • Is able to climb up and down vertical ladders and stairways • Is able to step over a door sill or coaming up to 24 inches in height • Is able to move through a restricted opening of 24 inches by 24 inches • Is able to open and close watertight doors that weigh up to 55 pounds. Must be able to move hands/arms in vertical and horizontal directions, rotate wrists and reach above shoulder height to turn handles • Is able to lift at least a 40 pound load off the ground, and to carry, push or pull the same load • Is able to grasp and manipulate common tools such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers and pliers • Is able to crouch, kneel and crawl • Is able to distinguish differences in texture and temperature by feel • Is able to intermittently stand on feet for up to four hours with minimal rest periods • Is able to react to visual alarms and instructions • Is able to react to audible alarms and instructions • Is capable of normal conversation • Is able to pull an uncharged 1.5 inch diameter, 50’ fire hose with nozzle to full extension, and to lift a charged 1.5 inch diameter fire hose to firefighting position • Is physically able to put on a Personal Flotation Devise (PFD) without assistance from another individual • Has no physical limitations that would hinder or prevent the performance of duties The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) requires all crew members employed with NCL America aboard the Pride of America to hold a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
