This "reduced environmental footprint" experience will appeal to all of your senses. See Victoria’s highlights, smell the fragrant flowers at Butchart Gardens and tantalize your taste buds with an organic gourmet picnic. While your knowledgeable guide points out some of Victoria’s most interesting sights, you'll travel in comfort aboard a B100 coach fueled by biodiesel, made from recycled waste cooking oil collected from cruise ships visiting Victoria. With views of Beacon Hill Park as well as rolling landscapes and farmland en route, you'll arrive at Canada’s famed National Historic Site, Butchart Gardens. The gardens have been transformed from a lifeless rock quarry to a horticultural masterpiece over 100 years ago. Stroll at your own pace through 55 acres of beautiful blooms and themed gardens.
Upon arrival you'll be directed to your picnic site (the residence lawn) and provided with your wicker basket and gourmet picnic prepared from fresh and locally grown organic produce. You may choose to enjoy your picnic on the lawns (over a ground cover) or at a picnic table. As an added bonus, guests visiting on Saturdays in July and August will be treated to the Butchart Gardens fireworks display, choreographed to music. Norwegian Pearl sailings only. On your return, enjoy a narrated sightseeing tour of Victoria’s downtown area, including Chinatown, the historic Empress Hotel and the picturesque Parliament buildings. Your participation on this excursion will help support the local James Bay Community School, allowing vulnerable families the opportunity for their children to be able to partake in youth getaways & summer sports camps. Approximate time at Butchart Gardens is 3 hours.

This experience allows for an intimate glimpse inside one of the most important aspects that defines Costa Rica as the strongest nation in all of Central America. Coffee cultivation has been the primary source of income for many Costa Rican families since the turn of the 19th century. You’ll visit a 670-acre cooperative farm owned by more than 2,300 farmers of who 60% are women. Each member contributes almost 10 acres of land to the coop. The coffee that they cultivate and produce is sold directly to one of the largest coffee companies in the world, Starbucks. This coffee is also purchased by Rainforest Alliance, an organization that focuses on the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable development. You’ll experience first-hand the coffee roasting process and have the chance to sample the flavorful brewing. Also see how the coffee beans, also known as cherries, are picked, sorted, peeled, fermented and sun-dried. Learn many interesting facts that will change your appreciation for this highly consumed beverage. Feel free to browse the selection of hand-made souvenirs before heading to the town of Sarchi. A photo-stop will be made at the largest oxcart monument ever built and stop at the factory that made it; see the ancient water wheel that propels most of the machinery they use to cut and saw the wood. Note: Minimum amount of walking over even surface and some steps. For wheelchair restricted customers, advance notice is required. Motorized scooters cannot be handled, only foldable wheelchairs. Wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a hat and bring a camera and a light jacket. less

Learn the history and culture of Ketchikan as you travel aboard a festive trolley. You’ll be entertained by a lively city’s tour while passing by some of the city’s most colorful landmarks. Travel through downtown Ketchikan and pass by bustling boat harbors, lush City Park and beautiful Ketchikan Creek. Next, you’ll have an opportunity to stretch your legs on this brief photo/shopping stop. Photograph majestic totems up-close, and shop at one of Ketchikan’s finest stores to purchase authentic Native-made items, as well as curios. Finally, it is off to Creek Street – Ketchikan’s historical red light district. Those who wish to will have an opportunity to explore Creek Street on their own. Your trolley driver will offer you a return to the ship or you may leisurely enjoy the many shops and eateries of the downtown area and make your own way back. less

After being greeted by your boat captain, just sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular views surrounding as you navigate through the waterways. Experience the wildlife, especially the region’s diverse array of birds, that appear along the way. Your guide will share information about the area’s eco-system and point out various species of flora and fauna. You may see pelicans, herons, ospreys, cormorants, hummingbirds, egrets, spoonbills, storks, turtles and much more. This nature reserve also provides a way of life to the local fishermen who use the same methods of catching shrimp and crab. The city of Vancouver, in the Canadian province of British Columbia, is a shining light in the Northwest and has been consistently ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world! Join this tour and discover why it was chosen to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Departing the cruise pier you’ll head into the heart of downtown, a bustling urban environment surrounded by water and mountains.
This tour will take you into the second largest Chinatown in North America, through the renovated and popular Gastown District and into Stanley Park, where the locals come to relax and play. Stanley Park is larger in size than New York City’s Central Park, and is home to old growth trees and a spectacular display of First Nation Totem Poles. You’ll have an opportunity to explore some of Stanley Park and take photos of the Mountain Range rising just outside of the city. Keep your eyes peeled for game sites of the 2010 Olympics. This tour will end at the Vancouver International Airport.

Victoria is the gateway to the Puget Sound, Gulf Islands, and San Juan Islands, and is home to three resident pods of Orca Whales. This tour is designed to take you as up close and personal as permitted with the whales and sea life as they explore their natural feeding grounds along the shores British Columbia’s rugged coastline. You’ll board a motorcoach for a short transfer over to the whale watching vessel departure point. The vessels are equipped with restrooms, and offer covered as well as open viewing locations. As you travel to the viewing location, be sure to enjoy the majesty of the coastline and mountains surrounding you. This area is a playground for many of the world’s wealthiest yacht owners, and multi-million dollar yachts can often be seen cruising through the waters. Enjoy a magical evening cruise that features guaranteed whale viewing! Following a short ride to scenic Auke Bay, you’ll board a waterjet-powered catamaran specially designed for wildlife viewing. Relax in the warm, spacious cabin as you set out to explore Stephen’s Passage, a pristine marine wilderness surrounded by snow-capped peaks and glaciers. This is a favored summer feeding ground for humpback whales. Once whales have been sighted, your Captain will maneuver the vessel to provide you with exceptional viewing and photographic opportunities. You’ll be amazed by the grace of these ocean giants as they slowly arc their massive tail flukes into the air. Be sure to bring a warm jacket to wear on the topside observation deck, the whales are often close enough to hear them breathe. If conditions allow, an underwater hydrophone will be deployed so that you hear their incredible “singing”. Your onboard naturalist will explain the behavior and habitat of the humpback whale and other wildlife you may encounter, including killer whales, sea lions, porpoise, harbor seals, bald eagles and more. While enjoying the peaceful ambiance of Alaska’s long evening glow you’ll be treated to a variety of appetizers, desserts and complimentary beverages.
