Combine your helicopter Flightseeing tour with Alaska’s favorite sport, dog sledding. A short drive brings you to the heliport where following a safety video, you’re outfitted with boots and vests and ready to board your helicopter. Once airborne you’ll soar over stunning glaciers and snow fields before landing at the Dog Camp on Denver Glacier.
Here you’ll become acquainted with the world of “mushing” and dog sledding. You have the option to either stand on the sled and mush or relax in the sled and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. A truly authentic Alaskan adventure, this outing enables you to meet the professional Mushers and their friendly dogs that have made the Iditarod Dog Race famous.
Note: Flight time is approximately 30 minutes with approximately one hour at the dog sled camp. Participants must be able to enter and exit the helicopter with limited assistance. This tour is non-refundable. Time spent on the glacier is approximate and may vary due to weather and glacial conditions. Glacier boots are provided at the heliport. Not available after August 28. Guests 250 lbs. and over are charged an additional rate to reserve two seats for safety and comfort. Soaring high above the lush rain forest, incredibly deep valleys and awe inspiring peaks, you'll marvel at vistas seen by few! Your pilot will give you an eagle's eye view of high alpine lakes, "icefalls" hanging from sheer cliffs and some of the most remote peaks and glaciers in the Juneau Icefield, places like Wonderland, Glacier King, the Mendenhall Towers, and Devil's Paw. The itinerary is flexible; your pilot is free to create the best possible tour under the current weather and glacier conditions. For an up-close opportunity to appreciate this ancient landscape, your pilot will land in two different locations, where you'll continue the tour on foot! During these two landings you'll also learn about the geological and environmental processes at work creating moraines, crevasses, seracs, and the glaciers themselves. The "Pilot's Choice" tour is an incomparable journey of discovery, a once-in-a-lifetime experience sure to provide enduring memories of Southeast Alaska's beautiful wilderness. This tour is 2 3/4 hours in length which includes approximately 50 minutes helicopter time and 2 separate landings (each landing approximately 15 minutes). The remaining time is for transportation to and from the dock, a safety briefing, outfitting of glacier boots and aircraft assignment All times are approximate and due to Security Purposes, no bags are allowed on the flight. Combine a scenic helicopter flight, a wilderness hike in the Tongass National Forest and a ride aboard the historic narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. It’s a perfect mix of breathtaking scenery, great transportation and exercise. Board a helicopter for your flight with views of glacially carved valleys and stunning scenery before landing at Glacier Station. Set out on a 4 to 5 mile hike along the remote upper Skagway River and through pristine old-growth and temperate rain forest on your way to see the magnificent Laughton Glacier.
Your guide will share information about the region's unique natural history throughout the hike and allow plenty of time for photography. Bears, mountain goats, moose and other wildlife call Laughton Valley home. Return to Glacier Station and board the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad for the 14 mile scenic ride back to Skagway. Your guide will provide an overview of the train and its history. Flight pattern varies based on current weather conditions.
Note: Participants must be at least 9 years of age, be in good physical condition and able to walk over uneven terrain for 3 hours. Dress in layers and wear sturdy walking shoes. Please refrain from bringing large packs or excess gear due to helicopter weigh and space restrictions. Passport required.
