Passing through the historic colonial section, your scenic drive will take you along the world famous Ocean Drive where you’ll have spectacular views of Newport’s rocky coastline. Continuing to Bellevue Avenue, immerse yourself in a world of wealth and power as it existed at the dawn of the 20th century with a visit to one of the grand summer villas that defined the era known as the ‘Age of Beauty’.
Depending on local conditions, you’ll tour either the Elms or Rosecliff, both of which represent the height of gracious living and entertaining by America’s elite. Your tour encompasses all aspects of Halifax's connection to the sinking of the Titanic, including the historic pier from which cable ships were dispatched to pick up victims, the churches, temporary morgue sites, and Fairview Cemetery, where rows of gravestones mark the final resting place of 121 victims. Immerse yourself in history at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which houses an excellent permanent exhibit on the disaster, including photographs, wooden artifacts and the only intact Titanic deck chair in the world. Compare the details of this devastating event to that of the Halifax Explosion, which occurred just five years later. The result of a collision between the Imo and the Mont Blanc, a French munitions ship, the explosion leveled the north end of Halifax, and killed or injured thousands. But most importantly, learn of the compassionate relief effort displayed by the world to help this city and its inhabitants overcome their instant and tragic loss, and rebuild their lives. less

Explore the mountains, fjords and coastal wonders of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This tour features beautiful scenery on the north side of the park and includes a total of four hours of travel by coach. The local lunch features distinctive Newfoundland flavors. You’ll stop at Gros Morne Park’s visitor center to learn about the geological significance of this park, hailed as the “Galapagos of Geology”. The Lobster Cove Lighthouse stop will introduce you to the first people of North America and the history of the local communities including some famous local shipwrecks.
Newfoundland's geological history comes alive at Western Brook Pond, looking at the distant, raised, inland fjord that was carved by the sea and slipped away from the ocean's edge a mere 15,000 years ago. There’s lots of opportunity to enjoy the scenery including Gros Morne Mountain and to learn about the history and geology of our planet together with the fishing culture of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This one and a half hour city tour with your local guide will take you along the waterfront and through the heritage district of Charlottetown. Learn the story of Charlottetown's origins and its growth into a prosperous community during the Victorian Era. Experience the heritage and see some of the beautiful homes left behind and public buildings of wood, sandstone and brick. You’ll learn about the famous Conference of 1864, which gave the city its designation as the Birthplace of Canada.
The tour concludes with a guided walk up Great George Street, a charming national Historic District where you’ll walk in the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation and learn first-hand about the Confederation. Your walk will take you by Saint Dunstan's Basilica, concluding at Province House, both being National Historic Sites of Canada. Then enjoy free time on your own for shopping and exploring this historic seaside town before returning to your ship.

Ciad Mile Failte - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes await you. Nova Scotia is Latin for New Scotland and nowhere is this more evident than on Cape Breton Island. This picturesque excursion takes you to the very Heart of the Island. The route includes some of the Island's most dynamic scenery, weaving a route through rugged countryside, touching the shores of the famous Bras d'Or Lakes. Known as the Great Inland Sea (the lakes are salt-water) the Bras d'Or region is a major breeding ground for the bald eagle and other exotic wildlife. As your tour progresses, you'll stop at the geographical center of Cape Breton Island, Hectors' Point, Iona and visit the Nova Scotia Highland Village, a 50-acre historical site overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes. Take a chronological journey through 180 years of Cape Breton’s Scottish architecture, hosted by costumed staff trained in conversational Gaelic and local history. Here you will view a full-size replica of a Scottish Blackhouse, the original one-room structure occupied by the first Scottish settlers in the region, and the only one of its kind in North America. Experience a narrated excursion of Halifax, including a drive by historic properties, a restored section of the waterfront, Citadel Hill and the beautiful public gardens before heading out to Peggy’s Cove. On this tour you’ll travel along the scenic coastal highway to the tiny village of Peggy’s Cove, where less than 40 residents live year round. See the brightly colored houses nestled close to the water’s edge in this working rustic fishing village.
As you enter the cove, drive by the monument carved by local artist William deGarthe from a massive slab of granite and a tribute to the people of Peggy’s Cove. Your guide will also spin tales of the Cove, explain how it got its name, tell you the story of its lighthouse and talk about the lobster fishery, which is the backbone of the local economy. There is also an optional live lobster demonstration by your guide, if you wish. Explore the village on your own and if you choose, there is plenty of time to visit a few of the shops and galleries before you return to your ship.

Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877) established the family fortune in steamships and later in the New York Central Railroad. As the industrial revolution reached its zenith in the late 19th century, the Vanderbilts soon became the wealthiest family in America and chose Newport as their summer playground. Learn about the family empire and visit two of the grandest villas ever built in the United States. Completed in 1892, Marble House was modeled after the Petit Trianon at Versailles and took nearly four years to build with a total cost exceeding $11 million dollars.
Enjoy the stories of the elaborate parties of the gilded age and Alva Vanderbilt as you tour the public rooms and grounds of Marble House. Next, visit the grandest of Newport's summer ‘cottages’, the Breakers was inspired by the 16th century palaces of Genoa and Turin. Completed in 1895, the mansion is situated on a 13 acre estate overlooking a spectacular view of the rugged Atlantic coastline.
