The Fortress of Louisbourg was one of the busiest harbors in North America and one of France's key centers of trade and military strength in the New World. Today, the site is an exciting and entertaining lesson in history. Plan to see selected buildings and exhibits. Experience the life of a military officer as you visit the home of Captain and Madame DeGannes. Discuss household duties with the servant in the Engineer’s Residence. Discover some tricks of open-hearth cooking and then wander up to the spectacular chapel in the King’s Bastion. Talk to a soldier. You'll find them happy to tell you about guard duty, living conditions, security, food and a soldier's life in general. Note: Considerable walking is involved. Experience a narrated excursion of Halifax, including a drive by historic properties, a restored section of the waterfront, Citadel Hill and the beautiful public gardens before heading out to Peggy’s Cove. On this tour you’ll travel along the scenic coastal highway to the tiny village of Peggy’s Cove, where less than 40 residents live year round. See the brightly colored houses nestled close to the water’s edge in this working rustic fishing village.
As you enter the cove, drive by the monument carved by local artist William deGarthe from a massive slab of granite and a tribute to the people of Peggy’s Cove. Your guide will also spin tales of the Cove, explain how it got its name, tell you the story of its lighthouse and talk about the lobster fishery, which is the backbone of the local economy. There is also an optional live lobster demonstration by your guide, if you wish. Explore the village on your own and if you choose, there is plenty of time to visit a few of the shops and galleries before you return to your ship.
Note: Walking at Peggy's Cove is optional. If you choose to explore the Peggy’s Cove area, wear warm clothing, a raincoat and sturdy low-heeled shoes, as the wind often carries salt water spray great distances. less

Less than an hour away from Saint John is the picturesque fishing village of St. Martins, a beautiful window through which to take a peek at life in New Brunswick. During the scenic drive to St. Martins, your local guide will entertain you with fascinating folklore about the village, including the thriving shipbuilding era of bygone days. Upon arrival, stop at the harbor and witness the effects of the extreme high and low tides of the Bay of Fundy. This area is a favorite with artists, with its lighthouse, lobster traps and fishing boats creating a charming scene. Stroll over the covered bridge and explore this working harbor. Visit the beach, where time and tides have carved echoing caves in the sandstone cliffs. Enjoy a walk along the beach and a light lunch of delicious seafood chowder at the beach restaurant. As you return to the pier, enjoy the scenery and reflect on your wonderful day in St. Martins. Note: This tour is also available with a French-speaking guide. French-speaking guests should book SJB_40. There will be alternate soup for those who don't eat seafood. Participants must be able to walk approximately 300 yards over even surfaces with 5 to 10 steps. Walking on the beach and at the Sea Caves is over very rocky terrain and is at your discretion. The Sea Caves are only accessible at low tide, but they can be viewed from the beach during high tide. The tide may be high or low depending on the time of visit. less

Explore the mountains, fjords and coastal wonders of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This tour features beautiful scenery on the north side of the park and includes a total of four hours of travel by coach. The local lunch features distinctive Newfoundland flavors. You’ll stop at Gros Morne Park’s visitor center to learn about the geological significance of this park, hailed as the “Galapagos of Geology”. The Lobster Cove Lighthouse stop will introduce you to the first people of North America and the history of the local communities including some famous local shipwrecks.
Newfoundland's geological history comes alive at Western Brook Pond, looking at the distant, raised, inland fjord that was carved by the sea and slipped away from the ocean's edge a mere 15,000 years ago. There’s lots of opportunity to enjoy the scenery including Gros Morne Mountain and to learn about the history and geology of our planet together with the fishing culture of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ciad Mile Failte - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes await you. Nova Scotia is Latin for New Scotland and nowhere is this more evident than on Cape Breton Island. This picturesque excursion takes you to the very Heart of the Island. The route includes some of the Island's most dynamic scenery, weaving a route through rugged countryside, touching the shores of the famous Bras d'Or Lakes. Known as the Great Inland Sea (the lakes are salt-water) the Bras d'Or region is a major breeding ground for the bald eagle and other exotic wildlife. As your tour progresses, you'll stop at the geographical center of Cape Breton Island, Hectors' Point, Iona and visit the Nova Scotia Highland Village, a 50-acre historical site overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes. Take a chronological journey through 180 years of Cape Breton’s Scottish architecture, hosted by costumed staff trained in conversational Gaelic and local history. Meet your local guide at the pier for your guided walk to the New Brunswick Museum, where a guide will introduce you to the wonders of the Bay of Fundy. During this exclusive program, discover the forces that work together to create the highest tides in the world here in the Bay of Fundy, which rise to over 40 feet, or the equivalent of a four-story building. Hear about the geology and geography of the Bay of Fundy region, including why the Reversing Falls exist and learn about the variety of birds, seals and fish species that make the bay their home. After your visit to the museum, step outside and board a sightseeing boat for a closer look at the Bay of Fundy and the famous Reversing Falls Rapids. This sightseeing boat has been specially designed to take you up-close to the famous Reversing Falls, where the mighty Bay of Fundy causes the St. John River to reverse direction and flow upstream and from the boat. You’ll cruise around the harbor, alongside your cruise ship and past a number of significant Saint John sights. This is a Bay of Fundy Experience you won’t want to miss! Note: This is a walking tour. This one and a half hour city tour with your local guide will take you along the waterfront and through the heritage district of Charlottetown. Learn the story of Charlottetown's origins and its growth into a prosperous community during the Victorian Era. Experience the heritage and see some of the beautiful homes left behind and public buildings of wood, sandstone and brick. You’ll learn about the famous Conference of 1864, which gave the city its designation as the Birthplace of Canada.
The tour concludes with a guided walk up Great George Street, a charming national Historic District where you’ll walk in the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation and learn first-hand about the Confederation.
