Enjoy an orientation drive of Rome and have free time to take in the sites of your choice or do some shopping. You’ll drive by landmarks such as Trajan's Column, the Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum. After viewing these major sites, you’ll be dropped off at a central location where you’ll have approximately two hours of free time. Your guide will advise you of the pick up time for your transfer to your Norwegian Cruise Line program hotel or the airport. Note: This tour is only available for guests with flights after 5:00 pm. Travel along the Campanian coastal route to Sorrento. As you make your way towards the Sorrentine Peninsula, enjoy the panoramic scenery of the Bay of Naples. Once in Sorrento, you’ll have approximately 1 1/2 hours on your own to explore, shop and eat in Sorrento's charming flowered-filled streets that offer a wide array of boutiques, souvenir shops, and outdoor cafes. (Please note that lunch is not included in this tour.) You’ll then take a local shuttle bus and drive to a local beach. Your escort will designate a meeting time and place and then you’ll be on your own for approximately 3 hours at the beach. You can use the changing rooms and will have the opportunity to relax on the beach, taste the cuisine of the local restaurant or have a cappuccino on the panoramic terrace. A complimentary sun-bed and beach umbrella will be provided for you. After a relaxing summer day on the Italian coastline, you’ll re-board the coach for the return drive to your ship in Naples. Note: The amount of walking is at guests' discretion. This tour does not include lunch or entrance fees. An escort will be on the coach to/from Naples to answer questions. Items such as hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, swimwear, proper foot protection and a towel should be brought with you from your ship. If guests should miss the return bus, transportation back to the vessel is your own responsibility and expense. Time in Sorrento and at the beach may be altered due to traffic. The transfer from Sorrento Town to the beach takes approximately 6-7 minutes each way and is operated by local shuttles buses so many guests will be standing. This is the only transportation authorized through the short, narrow street that connects the town and the beach. For this reason, depending on crowds and traffic involved, some waiting at the shuttle bus pick-up points may be expected. Don’t miss the sites of the city and spend time at the Grand Bazaar. A scenic orientation drive takes you to the old city where you’ll have a glimpse of the Old City’s Sea Walls, Golden Horn, Bulgarian Orthodox Church, several gates on the Land Walls and the Sea of Marmara with a photo stop en route. You’ll pass by the heart of Old City, where from the comfort of your coach, you'll see the magnificence of the Blue Mosque, the German Fountain and Obelisk in the Byzantine Hippodrome and St. Sophia. Continue to the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest covered markets in the world with thousands of stalls that sell items such as carpets, jewelry, leather goods, silver, brass and copperware, ceramics, alabaster, textiles and a variety of souvenirs. You’ll have time to wander this giant labyrinth and take in the atmosphere. As you walk in deeper in to the bazaar, keep in mind that it is easy to get lost in it if you don’t pay attention to where you started. During your time around the Grand Bazaar, you’ll go for a presentation on the unique art of Turkish carpets and be given additional time to shop. Enjoy some complimentary refreshments while you shop and stroll in the handicraft store. Note: Tour will not be available for the Norwegian Spirit August 3rd, August 27th or September 8th 2013 sailings. Please expect differences in tour durations due to traffic conditions. There is approximately a 1/2 mile of walking in the Grand Bazaar at your discretion. This panoramic tour will take you to Cabo Girao, the highest sea cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world offering breathtaking views. Next you’ll visit Camara de Lobos, the traditional fishing village that inspired Sir Winston Churchill to paint its lovely surroundings. It was named by explorers Joao Goncalves Zarco and Tristao Vaz Teixeira because of the shape of its bay and the many sea lions (lobos de mar) that lived there at the time. Here you’ll have free time to explore this traditional, picturesque village. You’ll then be driven towards Funchal to sample the famous Madeira wine at the Madeira Wine Company.

Note: his tour involves walking on level ground with some steps in order to gain access to the edge of the cliff at Cabo Girao and at the Madeira Wine Lodge. A jacket is recommended as Madeira has a microclimate.
