In Solin, the site of the ancient Salona, it will seem as if time has stood still. At the time of its greatest prosperity (3rd and 4th centuries), Salona had approximately 40,000 inhabitants while Split did not even exist. Archaeologists have excavated remains of temples, amphitheaters, early Christian churches, burial grounds and baths. We can certainly say that in Croatia, this is the most important excavation site from Roman times. After your tour in Salona, you’ll drive along the beautiful Riviera of the Seven Castles to the charming town of Trogir. This tiny island is connected to the mainland with a bridge and is situated in between the mainland and the larger island of Ciovo. Trogir is completely occupied by spectacular constructions in stone-houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, towers and walls, except for the green parks on the island. The streets are narrow and they truly give a feel of how life might have been in the old days. You’ll visit the main attraction in Trogir - the Cathedral of St. Lawrence which is probably the finest example of Sacral architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three semi circular apses dominates the entire town. The main portal carved by the local artist, Radovan, in the 13th century is world famous. Other fine buildings that you’ll see are the Town Loggia, the Town Hall and Cipiko Palace.   Note: During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long lines. We recommend that you dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses and bring bottled water. Guests must be able to walk approximately 1/2 mile over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with 15-30 steps. If there is one memory you’ll take home with you, it’s of drifting through Venice’s canals on a gondola as darkened waters lap your boat and music melts on the air. This delightful after-dinner excursion offers the chance to experience that quintessential canal ride while being serenaded by musicians in traditional fashion. O sole mio! From your ship, you’ll transfer by private motor launch to St. Mark’s Basin where your gondola awaits. After your ride, you can stretch the evening’s magic with a stroll around St. Mark’s Square. Perhaps stop for an espresso at one of the elegant cafes with their orchestras and chandeliers before catching the motor launch back to your ship. The Shetlands are a mosaic of over a hundred islands where land and water blend. The most northerly part of the British Isles, it is inhabited by approximately 22,000 people and an abundance of wildlife. It is a land shaped by the sea from dramatic sculptured cliffs to tranquil sandy bays. The delightful and inquisitive Shetland pony will come looking for food as your tour bus stops wherever possible for photos. The shaggy coats and flowing manes of the ponies equip them to withstand severe weather conditions; they have been in the Shetlands since at least Viking times. Then, travel south to visit Jarlshof. A violent storm in 1905 uncovered this remarkable archaeological site, revealing remains from the Stone Age and settlements from the Bronze and Iron Ages. The name Jarlshof, or "Laird's House", refers to the community of the Norse Jarls that resided here in the 7th century. You’ll be able to independently explore the remains of these village settlements, sprawled over a low green promontory by the sea. Your tour continues the short distance to the small historic village of Hoswick and a visit to the Hoswick Visitor Center. Here, you can have an understanding of the history and culture of the Shetlands from the interpretive displays and by watching the traditional knitting skills of the islanders. There is also the opportunity to purchase an original Shetland garment from the wide variety of cashmere or lamb wool items on sale in the knitwear shop. You’ll also see the small agricultural areas where sheep farming is important. Furthermore, see the distinctive black and brown Shetland sheep grazing in pastures enclosed by neat dry-stone walls, and small communities where peat is still used to heat homes. This leisure tour highlights the spectacular scenery of Majorca and offers the opportunity to taste local specialties. Leaving the port, you’ll embark on a scenic drive with views of landscapes of pine forests and groves of almond and olive trees, beautiful villages and much more. There will be a couple of stops to take in the magnificent views and snap some memorable pictures. Your final destination and highlight is La Granja de Esporles surrounded by beautiful fountains and lush formal gardens. This superb 17th century Majorcan manor was built by a noble family on the site of a 10th century farm belonging to the monks. You’ll have time to explore on your own the grounds and interior of the house, now a museum illustrating the home-life of two centuries ago. A highlight is the wine cellar, where you’ll sample a local wine and various Majorcan products. Afterward, you’ll return to your ship through the village of Esporles. It began as a Viking settlement, followed by a market, later became a thriving town, and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Thorshavn today blends the historical and picturesque with all the features of a modern city. You’ll discover quality restaurants and hotels, conference facilities, interesting museums, discotheques, cinema, live theater, exhibitions, sports facilities, parks, and of course excellent shopping. The town and the surrounding areas are ideal for window shopping and pleasant strolls. As Thorshavn is located in the center of the country, the well-developed bus and ferry service can whisk you away to almost every corner of the Faroes and back again the same day. Your tour will visit Tinganes, which is the historic part of Thorshavn. Enjoy a short stop at Skansin to explore the old fort before driving up to the beautiful Nordic House Cultural Centre. When returning to your ship you’ll pass through the modern sections of the city and stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the capital. Spend your time experiencing Corfu’s most beautiful and renowned landmarks. Drive through the countryside dotted with lemon and olive trees, to reach the charming village of Gastouri where the Achilleion Palace stands. It was built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1891 and was recently renovated. Its beautiful gardens, full of exotic flowers and the imposing figure of Achilles dominating the center, offer magnificent views of the Ionian Sea. Continue driving along the coastal road of Perama, where you’ll stop to take photographs of the famous views of Mouse Island before returning to Corfu town. Leave your coach in the Esplanade, the main square of the town, for a walk through the picturesque streets of the Old town. Here you’ll view historical sights such as the residence of the British High Commissioner, the Venetian quarters of Cambiello and Corfu’s historical center, the Town Hall and the Church of Saint Spyridon, Patron Saint of Corfu. At the end of the tour you can either board your coach to return to your ship, or remain in the city a bit longer and return to your ship later on your own.
