Enjoy a drive to the southern part of Lanzarote, passing the picturesque villages of Macher and Uga and crossing black lava streams before arriving to the southwest coast of the island. There you’ll make a photo stop by Los Hervideros where the sea water seems to boil in a volcanic cave. On your way to the Timanfaya National Park, you’ll stop for a short camel ride. The park is a natural museum of unique beauty. Bizarre craters, streams of lava and fields of ashes formed by eruptions during the 18th century are mixed here in a nearly unrealistic lunar landscape. Upon arrival to Islote de Hilario, a crater with the highest surface temperatures in the region, you’ll experience still-existing activity not far underground as you gather around for the fun demonstrations. The geothermal energy is so strong that water gushes up and dry weed catches fire within seconds. Board a coach to embark on a tour of the Fire Mountains called the "Lunar Route”, which goes deep inside the heart of the national park and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Through a recorded narration, you’ll learn about the history of the volcanic eruptions and see how slowly life conquers the inhospitable landscape with very few endemic plants. From here you’ll drive to the wine-growing area of La Geria where the locals have modified grape growing through the centuries in order to preserve the vines from the harsh natural elements and provide a special cultivation for the grapes that produce the famous Malvasia wine. These vines are grown inside dimple-like craters and surrounded by volcanic stone semi-circles (called Zocos), built for each individual vine to provide much needed protection from the fierce winds. Visit one of the local wine cellars for a taste of the local wine before the return drive to your ship. Note: Because Fire Mountains is the most visited attraction, to avoid delays at the entrance, tour order may vary but all mentioned sites will be covered. No professional camera or video equipment is allowed at Timanfaya National Park, including the camel area. Comfortable shoes and a light jacket are recommended. less

Driving from the port to the center of the island, arrive to Monumento al Campesino; situated one next to the other, the house museum and peasant monument were built to immortalize the hard work of Lanzarote’s peasant community whose efforts materialized in La Geria, a unique production of agricultural goods from a dry and arid land. The peasant monument known as the Monument to Fertility was designed by Cesar Manrique with water tanks from old fishing boats elevated onto a rock platform. The strength of this work is found in the mixing of local and traditional architectural elements such as bright white color and round lines with the modern use of recycled materials assembled as a “meccano”. The sculpture placed in the geographic center of Lanzarote has the effect of a lookout and, from its approximately 50 feet (15 meters) of height of superposed boat tankers, becomes a water metaphor; the water element has become a symbol of the peasant’s hard life. The house museum contains an extraordinary collection of utensils and instruments used by the peasant community throughout history to work, transport and store products, or simply to live. After a short drive through the dramatic wine landscape of La Geria, you’ll arrive at Bodegas La Geria for a tour of the wine cellar and a taste of the local wine. La Geria wine cellar is one of the most important in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. It is located in the heart of Lanzarote’s main wine producing area. Built at the end of the 19th century by the Rijo family, it experienced crucial technological improvements after the takeover in 1993 by its current owners, allowing the production of high quality wines. Next, you’ll visit El Grifo Wine Museum, housed in ancient bodegas dating back to 1775 and built on top of the solidified lava from a volcanic eruption. A true example of local architecture, the cellar is marked by the simplicity of its construction materials: extraordinary thick walls made of volcanic stones and plaster combined with ceilings supported by long wooden beams, mainly coming from derelict ships. The exemplary ethnographic collection dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries gives the visitor an opportunity to observe the evolution of wine making equipment. Cesar Manrique´s monument to the mythological griffin placed on the road indicates access to the museum. During the visit at El Grifo, you’ll taste three different local wines with the assistance of a professional sommelier. Note: You must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in the wine tasting. less

Drive along the northeast coast further north to reach the Malpais de la Corona, a widespread plain of weather-beaten lava stone formed by the last eruptions of the Corona Crater over 3,000 years ago. Through the years, singular vegetation unfolded itself, which added a special charm to this otherwise poor and dry landscape. In this area you’ll visit Jameos del Agua, a partially open cave which is part of a huge lava tunnel. The famous native artist Cesar Manrique transformed this cave into a small paradise. As you enter, you can see the subterranean lake roofed by a huge arch of lava stones. Small, blind Albino crabs that are normally only found in deep-sea areas inhabit this lake. A tropical garden with beautiful plants is set up on an open area of the cave with an artificial pool in the center. Passing through the garden there is the entrance to the concert hall, a natural auditorium with capacity for more than 500 persons. Continue to Guatiza Village to visit the Cactus Garden where Cesar Manrique converted a natural gravel mine into a beautifully designed garden with more than 1,000 species of cacti from all over the world. The interior structure is circular with walls made up of terraces descending from the ground in levels displaying the different varieties of cactus. Surrounding the garden, you can also see the local cultivations of cactus with cochineal parasite used as a natural component for coloring and as ingredient for some other drinks and products. Your next stop will be at Tahiche Village, where you’ll visit the Cesar Manrique Foundation, which purpose is to preserve the environment and combine the beauties of the island with natural protection and decoration. The artist’s former house, now converted into a foundation, is a two-level structure built on five huge natural volcanic bubbles and is the best example of his ideas. The upper floor is inspired by the traditional architecture of Lanzarote and the underground level takes advantage of the five natural volcanic bubbles adapted for habitation and linked by small corridors. It contains some of his own work and a private collection of contemporary art by artists such as Picasso, Tapies, Miro, etc. The Foundation is also a center of art and culture popularization; in an adjacent building you’ll find organized exhibitions and art conferences during the year. From here you’ll return to your ship. less

Barcelona’s favorable location, in perfect harmony with its immediate surroundings, together with its ease of access and varied climate, make it a starting point for discovering new landscapes and enjoying contact with nature. Your tour departs from the port passing through the main streets of Barcelona to reach Catalunya Square, considered the heart of the city. From here, you’ll continue the panoramic drive along Passeig de Gracia, the best-known boulevard in town. Your guide will point out of the masterpieces of Gaudi’s architecture: the Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, two of the best-known landmarks of the city. Reaching Diagonal Avenue, your tour continues to Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship ‘La Moreneta,’ the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles to the west of Barcelona. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost a thousand years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working, and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. Besides the monks, the Escolans also live in Montserrat, forming the oldest boy’s choir in Europe. During your stay and visit to Montserrat, you’ll visit the sanctuary and have free time to take-in the activity of your choice. Spend extra time at the sanctuary, explore some more, take pictures, shop for that last-minute souvenir, have lunch or grab a coffee at one of the restaurants and cafeterias on location. Once you finish the visit you’ll be driven back to your ship. less

The coastline east of Malaga is not as well known to tourists as the other side, but towns such as La Cala, Rincon de la Victoria and Torre del Mar, are popular for Spaniards. Along this subtropical coast grow sugar cane, avocado and custard trees. Some 35 miles from Malaga is Nerja, which counts many retired Britons among its residents. The historic center, which begins in the Balcony of Europe, dates from around 1487. Its 9th century castle is today a perfect view point above the sea. To the side of the balcony, you’ll find the 17th century Savior Church, constructed in Baroque-Mudejar style and the 16th century Our Lady of Sorrows Hermitage with its paintings by the master Alonso Cano. In the old quarter of town, typical small shops offer local handicrafts and local products such as sweet wine, olive oil, honey and tropical fruits. After a walk through the city, you’ll continue to the famous Caves of Nerja. Millions of years old, these breathtaking beautiful caves, should not be missed. Your surroundings get more fascinating as you descend deeper into the bowels of the earth. In its interior you’ll gaze in awe the largest stalagmites columns in the world, 161 feet high and 59 feet in diameter. Their capricious rocky formations can be compared to Modernist cathedrals, and their eight rooms include the Room of the Cataclysm, as well as the Room of the Cascade. Every year in August the Festivals of Music and Dance take place here. Note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/4-mile (2,000 meters) of walking and there are approximately 400 easy steps to be negotiated; they are perfectly safe, but not suitable for guests with walking difficulties. less

In the morning your tour takes you outside of the city to the historical town of Pushkin. The drive will take you to the Egyptian Gates, the entrance to the Tsar’s Village in Pushkin. Catherine’s Palace in the Tsar’s Village ranks as one of the masterpieces of world art. Peter the Great presented the estate to his wife Catherine in 1710 and the architect Braunstein built a small palace here. From this time until the time of the last Russian Tsar, Pushkin was used as the summer residence of the Royal Family. In 1756, Bartelomeo Rastrelli expanded the palace in Baroque style. Its grandiose, white and gold facade stretches 978 feet. During World War II, the palace was damaged severely, but since then it has been restored and stands now in its original glory.
The palace tour takes you through the series of magnificent rooms, including the famous Picture Gallery, the Great Hall and the world-famous Amber Room. The parks of the estate add to the splendor of the palace, and several of them are embellished with a number of charming pavilions. The town of Pushkin is famous not only for its remarkable palace and parks, but the man it was named after – Alexander Pushkin, the most celebrated poet in the country and a resident of this town at the beginning of the 19th century. The lyceum, where he studied, is connected to the palace by an arch. After the tour you’ll continue to one of the dining venues for lunch after which, you’ll drive back to the city for a tour of the Hermitage Museum, the largest art museum in Russia and the most prestigious museum in the world. The Hermitage Museum occupies the Winter Palace, the winter residence of the Russian Tsars, and four more buildings.

Today you’ll visit Ephesus, one of the most beautiful ancient cities in the world and learn its secrets. The city was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. Her temple was once considered the Seventh Wonder of the Ancient World and attracted pilgrims worshipping the female; first Cybele, then Artemis and finally the Virgin Mary. Among the ruins lays an impressive amphitheater, the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Scholastic Baths, the Lower Agora, State Agora, and Odeon. You’ll make a stop for a shopping opportunity and refreshments before returning to your ship in Izmir. Note: Expect crowded venues and long lines. There is approximately 1 1/4 miles of walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with inclines and steps. During summer months, expect crowded venues and long lines as well as temperatures that can reach extreme highs. Leaving the pier you'll proceed towards Pico dos Barcelos, where you can see distant Funchal and the surrounding villages scattered over the green slopes. Continue towards Camara de Lobos, a well-known fishing village used by Sir Winston Churchill to create beautiful island paintings. There, you’ll see its lovely, quaint setting of red-tile-roofed houses clustered on the rocky point and the brightly painted fishing boats anchored in the harbor. Your tour will then proceed to Cabo Girao, the highest sea cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world. Soaring 1,900 feet (579 meters), its etched face tells the tale of its volcanic origins. From this impressive promontory, enjoy breathtaking views along the island’s southern coast. Pass by Estreito de Camara de Lobos, known for its vineyards, arriving at Quinta do Estreito which nestled among vineyards on the southern slopes of the main wine producing area of Madeira, offering a wonderfully close contact with nature and a marvelous view over the south coast of Madeira Island. Your drive takes you to Nabeul, the capital of Cap Bon, well known not only for its beautiful sandy beaches, but also for its numerous potteries and perfumes made from jasmine and citrus blossoms. Enjoy some free time to visit the many shops and potteries before continuing your tour. Stop in Kelibia, stretching in both directions beneath the walls of Kelibia Castle, where you’ll visit the fishing port, home to Tunisia’s national fishing school. Drive to Kerkouane, one of Tunisia’s most remarkable ancient sites. Abandoned in its prime in the middle of the 3rd Century BC and never reoccupied, it offers a unique insight into the Punic world.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered ruins from the 4th and 3rd Centuries BC. The Punic Town of Kerkouane and its Necropolis were named a World Heritage Site in 1985 as the only example of a Phoenicio-Punic city which has survived. You’ll stop for lunch in Haouaria, at one of its seaside restaurants and visit the Roman quarries of Ghar El Kebir, where most of the stone used for the building of ancient Carthage and other towns of the region was cut. The drive back to Tunis is via Korbus and Soliman which completes your exploration of this beautiful and historical peninsula.
Note: This tour is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs or with walking difficulties. There is a good amount of walking at all sites visited, with uneven terrain in Kerkouane and Ghar El Kabir.

Combine two of the most famous Tuscan towns: Lucca, with a colorful history that stretches back to the days of the ancient Etruscans, and Pisa with its famous Field of Miracles with the cathedral, baptistery, and of course, the Leaning Tower. Arriving in Lucca, take a guided walk through the old town, which retains its Renaissance-vintage fortified walls. Stroll from piazza to piazza and learn the city’s history through its architecture. The Duomo, Lucca’s Romanesque cathedral dates from the 12th century and features a facade with elaborate relieves and columns. The Gothic interior features an image of Christ on the cross, supposedly carved by Nicodemus, a purported witness of the crucifixion. The Duomo also boasts Tintoretto's magnificent painting of the Last Supper. You’ll have free time in Lucca to enjoy your activity of choice; explore, eat or shop! Once a powerful maritime republic and a rival to Genoa and Venice, Pisa offers Renaissance splendor of its own. A short guided walk leads to the Field of Miracles where you’ll receive a brief orientation on Pisan history. The Piazza is the site of Pisa’s Duomo, baptistery, Campo Santo, and of course, the campanile – the famous Leaning Tower. Galileo is said to have used the 180-foot campanile during his experiments with gravity. Today, the tower leans 14-degrees from perpendicular. Recently reopened, admittance to the tower is limited and is not included in the excursion. Pisa’s Duomo is a mixture of Tuscan and Romanesque styles and the black and white interior marble arches are thought to have been inspired by Islamic architecture. You’ll have plenty of photo and shopping opportunities on this tour. Note: Should religious services be taking place in the Duomo, the guide will conduct an explanation outside and guests will be free to enter individually. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately; no bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. You’ll meet your guide in Lucca for your visit there and your other guide in Pisa for your visit to Pisa, however you’ll have an escort with you throughout the day. In Pisa, you’ll have to walk to and from the bus parking area approximately 15 minutes each way. less

The charm of the Portuguese towns of El Jadida and Azemmour comes from their medinas .Their narrow streets, beautiful buildings and gates combine a mixture of Portuguese, Arab, Andalusian and Berber architectural styles. Stop at the entrance of Azemmour for a panoramic view of this white-washed town on the banks of the Oum Rabiaa River. Drive to one of the town's main gates Sidi Makhfi, named after a sophism figure. Walk through the Kasbah to reach a large square overlooking the river. Board your coach for the drive to El Jadida and enjoy your Moroccan-style lunch. Visit the cistern built by the Portuguese settlers to serve as a water reservoir in the event of a prolonged siege. Walk through the Medina and stop for a panoramic view of the port and the Atlantic Ocean. On your return to Casablanca, stop at the Hassan II Mosque for photos. There will be an optional shopping stop in Casablanca.
Note: This tour involves walking for approximately one mile on mostly uneven ground. The Ancient Medina of Azemmour and the Portuguese Cistern in El Jadida are not wheelchair accessible.
