Drive through Corfu and arrive at Achilleon’s Palace built by order of Empress Elizabeth of Austria and completed in 1891. The empress had fallen in love with the natural beauty of the island during her 1861 visit and also developed a great love for Greek history and mythology which is clearly reflected in the decoration of the palace. Its name also shows her admiration for the greatest warrior of the Trojan War, Achilles. The most recent page in the long history of Achileon was written in 1994 when it held a summit conference of the leaders of the EEC. During the works that took place beforehand, the building and the grounds were given their present look. After a guided visit of the grounds and palace, you’ll continue to the traditional village of Kinopiastes for a short visit to the Museum of Olive Oil. Enjoy a rich and traditional lunch at the famous Tripas Tavern accompanied by live Greek music and dancers. Then, board your coach for the drive back to Corfu Old Town where you’ll have the opportunity to either be dropped off there to walk through the narrow lanes and browse the souvenir shops on your own, or return with the coach directly to your ship. Note: During summer months expect, crowded venues and long lines. Temperatures can reach extreme highs during summer months; we recommend that you drink a lot of water, use suitable sun protection and dress in layers. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately; no bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. less

Visit the site of the First Olympic Games and learn about its glorious history, marvel at the treasures housed at the Olympia Archaeological Museum, and experience the real taste of Greece when you sample olive oils and wines produced at Agriturismo Magna Grecia. Approximately 25 miles east of Katakolon is the site of Ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Even though the temples and monuments have disappeared and only the ruins are left, you cannot help but to envision the grandeur of the Temple of Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The site was a sanctuary even before the stadium was built and the games took place. The Temple of Hera, the Prytaneion and the Philippeion were also monuments standing in the sacred grove. The famous Stadium, the largest of its day, is entered through a long, tunnel-like passage constructed in Roman times. Today, you can stand at the starting line and imagine the roar of the spectators seated in the marble benches as the athletes took their marks on the starting line. Your tour continues to the Olympia Archaeological Museum. Here you’ll find the Head of Hera and the superb statue of Hermes of Praxiteles, among many other magnificent pieces found in the area. Admire the sculpted ornaments from the Temple of Zeus and many other priceless pieces. Reboard your coach and drive through picturesque villages and unspoiled scenery to Magna Grecia Farm lying in the heart of a traditional agricultural region. You’ll be welcomed with local drinks and homemade snacks. Make sure you try the ouzo, a local liqueur that tastes like licorice. Visit the olive grove and learn the history of the olive tree and the tasty, peppery fruit produced here. You’ll see the vineyards and encounter farm animals as well. Immerse yourself in the beauty and charm of this estate and in the delicious flavors of Greek cuisine by sampling a variety of mezes (appetizer dishes) accompanied by local wine. Flirt with Greek culture as you watch a short demonstration of Syrtaki dance, and maybe try a few steps yourself. Opah! Note: There is approximately 1 1/2 miles of walking on even ground, dirt and gravel. less

After your tender drops you off at the port of Athinios, you’ll drive to Pyrgos village, one of the oldest settlements and the highest village on the island. Admire the beautiful old houses and the Venetian fortress crowned by several churches. From Pyrgos Square the road runs uphill to the Monastery of the Prophet Elijah, the highest point of the island. From here, the views out over the caldera are majestic. Leaving Pyrgos you head to the northern end of Santorini to the village of Oia, which offers magnificent views of the caldera and the rest of the other islands. With its cobblestone streets, beautiful old mansions and houses perched on the cliffside, you’ll realize why the traditional Cycladic architecture is so well known. Here you’ll have free time to stroll around the narrow streets with the old beautiful houses and the tiny picturesque shops. Then, leaving the village of Oia, make your way to one of Santorini’s most renowned Greek tavernas where you’ll enjoy dinner, music and dances. Experience a typical Greek fiesta dancing to 'Zorba the Greek' and breaking plates while the bouzouki plays its solo. After a buffet-style dinner, you’ll continue to Fira town, the picturesque capital of the island built on the rim of the caldera wall. Enjoy the town at leisure before returning to your ship. Note: Tour participation is limited. Tour involves walking for approximately ½ mile on level, some steps and cobblestone streets. Amount of walking and exertion during free time is up to you. Ljubljana is the largest and busiest Slovenian city with a combination of romantic stories, Medieval charm and a lively student atmosphere. Enjoy a drive to the southern part of Lanzarote, passing the picturesque villages of Macher and Uga and crossing black lava streams before arriving to the southwest coast of the island. There you’ll make a photo stop by Los Hervideros where the sea water seems to boil in a volcanic cave. On your way to the Timanfaya National Park, you’ll stop for a short camel ride. The park is a natural museum of unique beauty. Bizarre craters, streams of lava and fields of ashes formed by eruptions during the 18th century are mixed here in a nearly unrealistic lunar landscape. Upon arrival to Islote de Hilario, a crater with the highest surface temperatures in the region, you’ll experience still-existing activity not far underground as you gather around for the fun demonstrations. The geothermal energy is so strong that water gushes up and dry weed catches fire within seconds. Board a coach to embark on a tour of the Fire Mountains called the "Lunar Route”, which goes deep inside the heart of the national park and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Through a recorded narration, you’ll learn about the history of the volcanic eruptions and see how slowly life conquers the inhospitable landscape with very few endemic plants. From here you’ll drive to the wine-growing area of La Geria where the locals have modified grape growing through the centuries in order to preserve the vines from the harsh natural elements and provide a special cultivation for the grapes that produce the famous Malvasia wine. These vines are grown inside dimple-like craters and surrounded by volcanic stone semi-circles (called Zocos), built for each individual vine to provide much needed protection from the fierce winds. Visit one of the local wine cellars for a taste of the local wine before the return drive to your ship. Note: Because Fire Mountains is the most visited attraction, to avoid delays at the entrance, tour order may vary but all mentioned sites will be covered. No professional camera or video equipment is allowed at Timanfaya National Park, including the camel area. Comfortable shoes and a light jacket are recommended. less

Visit two sites of great religious significance and pilgrimage, the house where the Virgin Mary purportedly spent the last days of her life, and the remains of the Basilica of St. John, built on the site where the apostle is believed to have been buried. It is said that John wrote his gospel while living in Ephesus. During the 4th century, a church was built on the site of his grave, but during the 6th century, the Emperor Justinian replaced it with a church of magnificent proportions, with the central dome right above the tomb. Thousands of faithful pilgrims visited the sacred site throughout the middle ages. It is also said that the apostle John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus after leaving Jerusalem. She first lived in a house in the city of Ephesus, until the house on Bulbul Mountain was built. This place of pilgrimage is visited by hundreds of tourists and pilgrims every day and it remains a holy place for Christians and Muslims alike. You’ll stop at a leather outlet for refreshments and a shopping opportunity before returning to your ship in Izmir. Note: Expect crowded venues and extreme heat, especially during summer months. Leaving the harbor of Toulon, you'll drive to Aix en Provence, the Capital of Provence. Your guide will take you for a walking tour where you’ll see the Cours Mirabeau one of the most popular and lively areas in town. Except for the green parks the entire island is occupied by spectacular constructions of stone-houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, towers, walls etc. You’ll visit the main attraction in Trogir - the Cathedral of St. Lawrence which is probably the finest example of Sacral architecture in Croatia. Other fine buildings that will be viewed are the Town Loggia, the Town Hall and the Cipiko Palace. Added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 1997 for being “the best preserved small Roman town in North Africa”, Dougga is an off- the-beaten track destination worthy of your exploration. Today, your long drive will be rewarded by the opportunity to explore this spectacular site. The Roman ruins occupy a commanding position on the edge of the Tebersouk Mountains, overlooking the fertile valley of the Oued Kalled. This site was occupied until the 1950’s, when the residents were relocated to help preserve the ruins. One of the monuments is a 3,500 seat theater, which was built into the hillside in 188 AD.
The Temple of Saturn was erected on the site of Temple Baal Hammon. A winding street leads to the square of the winds, where the paving depicts an enormous compass and lists the names of the 12 winds. The Capitol, raised in 166 AD is a remarkable monument and one of the finest in Tunisia. Six enormous, fluted columns support the portico, which stands some 25 feet/8m high. The frieze has a well preserved carving depicting the Emperor Antonius Pius being carried off in the claws of an eagle. Other important monuments are a Punic Libyan Mausoleum, triumphal arches, the baths and a number of temples.
Note: This tour is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs or with walking difficulties. There is a good amount of walking, approximately 2 hours on cobbled, uneven and rough Roman roads.

Ichkeul is situated on the Mateur plain. The area was designated as a biosphere reserve in 1977. The park contains the largest freshwater area in the country and the most important water supply for Tunisia.
Its semi-arid flora encompasses about 400 species of pan Mediterranean plants. Different habitats form this natural preserve, such as mountain, foothills, fresh water marshes and lake with its reed beds. Follow your guide into the park and during your walk, you may discover various animals that roam freely in the reserve. Switching from nature to ancient history, you’ll drive to the Roman ruins and museum at Utica. This old Phoenician settlement was founded around 1100 BC and contains Roman and Punic ruins. The remains of several houses reveal decorative flooring dating back to Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine times. The museum displays mosaic floors from the same periods.
Note: This tour is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs or with walking difficulties. There is extensive walking, approximately 3 hours on uneven terrain, cobbled and rough Roman roads. Sightings of wildlife are likely, but not guaranteed.

On this tour, you’ll travel in a small group by minibus to visit Ephesus, one of the most interesting and extensive ancient cities in the world, and also visit the impressive Terrace Houses. Upon reaching the once powerful city, passing by the Magnesia Gate, you’ll enter the administrative section of ancient Ephesus. On your guided walking tour you’ll see the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the five terraces of the apartment houses, the Steam Baths of Scholastika, the Temple of Hadrian and the impressive Library of Celsius, which is adorned with columns and statues. Peterhof, the town of palaces, fountains and parks, was built by Peter the Great to rival Versailles. It lies on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, 22 miles west of St. Petersburg. After a short walk from the parking lot you’ll reach the main entrance of the Grand Palace. Built in the beginning of the 18th century, Peterhof is known as the most brilliant of all the summer residences of the Russian Tsars. The estate construction spanned two centuries, and upon its completion it encompassed seven parks and more than 20 smaller palaces and pavilions. Peter himself designed the layout of the 300-acre park and spectacular fountains.
During World War II, the estate was occupied and all the buildings and fountains were completely demolished. Peterhof is also a monument to Soviet reconstruction, as the place was looted and practically razed to the ground by Nazi troops. For many years the palace and the Grand Cascade were under extensive restoration. Now all guests of the city can enjoy the spectacular views of the palace.
*Price reflected on NCL.com is inclusive of the Pre-Book and Save offer.
Note: Peterhof is not wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for persons with walking or climbing difficulties. There are stairs, no elevators, gravel paths and long walking distances. This is a predominantly eco-focused tour that circles the active central volcano Hengill, which is located just a few kilometers from Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavik. Hengill produces impressive amounts of energy by way of hydro and geothermal power – both of which are utilized to provide the capital and nearby municipalities with plentiful supplies of hot water and electricity. Stop at the geothermal plant of Hellisheidi where you’ll learn about geosciences, geothermal technology, the environment and the history of the area. Then, continue to the town of Hveragerdi located on top of an old magma chamber which accounts for the abundance of hot springs that bubble and hiss all around this unique little community. Take a short scenic drive passing by the town’s trademark greenhouses, and the new hot spring area; which broke through the earth’s surface following a dramatic earthquake in 2008. Next, pay a short visit to the geothermal area in the center of the town. After some refreshments, pass by the hydropower station Ljóssafoss, which has been in operation since 1937. Head out to the UNESCO site of Thingvellir. As you approach Thingvellir, cross the neovolcanic rift zone that slices through Iceland from northeast to southwest. Pause at the viewpoint to soak up a little of the nation’s history: here is where the world’s first parliament was formed in 930. Finally, pass by Iceland’s largest natural lake, Thingvallavatn, to the view point located on the lower flanks of the volcano. The drive back to Reykjavik takes us through a lunar-like landscape of volcanic phenomena and other geological wonders. Note: Participants under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Most venues are not wheelchair accessible. The tour might be run in reverse order to avoid congestion at the main sites. Begin this excursion with a scenic drive to Le Castellet, a typical Provencal hilltop village perched on wooded hills dotted with vineyards. This remarkable stronghold, formerly owned by the Lords of Les Baux, has well-preserved ramparts, a carefully restored 12th century church and a castle dating back to the 11th century. Entering through one of the two fortified gates Le Portail and Le Portalet, you’ll start with a guided walking tour around the narrow streets up to the Castle which is now home to the town hall. Enjoy some time at leisure, to explore the arts and craft workshops before rejoining your motorcoach for a drive to the seaside resort of Sanary sur Mer, a lovely 16th century port town in the heart of Provence. Sanary, village of light and contrasts will welcome you with its colorful façades, shaded walkways, vineyards and hundred year old olive trees. The "Roman" tower, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, was used for the defense of the region, while the 16th century church bell of Notre Dame de Pitie, was rung by the resident hermit to warn of enemy ships on the horizon. Enjoy some free time to relax, take a refreshing drink in one of the inviting waterfront cafes or stroll along the fashionable boutiques before returning to Marseille. Note: Tour involves walking for approximately 1 1/2 hours on uneven ground. Not recommended for guests who are wheelchair confined. This ultimate experience offers you a perfect opportunity to see the countryside, meet the locals and sample local products and cuisine without missing the highlights of Dubrovnik. Start with a pleasant bus ride along the Adriatic coastline. Your first stop is in the small, charming village of Orasac. This trip through time will certainly delight you once you come across the old home that greets you with the chance to taste some homemade cheese, smoked ham and wine. Not much has changed here through the ages - the mill is still driven by a horse. Enjoy a demonstration of how olive oil is made, the old fashioned way. After visiting Orasac Village you will continue towards the small town of Ston which is the "oyster capital" of Croatia. This little town is often called a smaller version of Dubrovnik. Especially notable are the magnificent 5 km long walls surrounding the town. Its construction started in 1317 and finished in the 16th century and it is one of the longest defensive walls in the world. Interesting are also the ancient salt pans that were in use during the Dubrovnik Republic; salt is still produced here. When you mention Ston in Croatia, people usually think of the oysters. Oyster farms are found all around the area. In Mali Ston, board a local boat where your host will welcome you on board and introduce you to oyster & mussel beds, their production, and you’ll even have the opportunity to taste fresh mussels and oysters. After this very unique experience step back ashore to enjoy sea food specialties served in a charming local tavern. After, return to Dubrovnik, where your guide will show you the highlights of the Old Town, followed by free time for further independent exploration. Note: This tour is not suitable for passengers who have difficulties walking, getting in and out of the boat or negotiating steps. When tendering into Dubrovnik Old Town tour duration will be shorter. less

Sansovino, the bell tower, the clock tower and its two bronze Moors, the two wings called Procuratie Vecchie and Procuratie Nuove, and the cathedral. Explore some of the treasures that the one-day visitor to Istanbul usually misses, and do this in the company of a small group. Visit Suleymaniye Mosque, an important historical symbol for the Turks. It represents the best of the arts with the most powerful of political strength. The mosque is a huge complex built above the Golden Horn during the peak of the Ottoman Empire. At the time of its construction, it boasted the highest dome when measured from sea level, even though from its base it is smaller than Hagia Sophia’s. After years of careful restorations, the mosque was re-opened to visitors in 2010, although some restoration work is still going on in the courtyards. The acoustics are among some of the most distinctive features of the structure that was built not only as a place of worship, but also as a charitable organization. Its interior decorations are of simple design and subtle elegance, giving it a feeling of light and openness. Suleyman the Magnificent rests in the complex’s garden. Next stop is the Chora Museum, located just by the ancient city walls. Built between 1077 and 1081 by Maria Dukaina, the mother-in-law of Emperor Alexius Comnenus, it has had many restorations and refurbishments during its long history. The church was converted into a Mosque in the 1500s by the Ottomans. The mosaics and frescoes that adorn its ceilings and walls date from the early 14th century and depict the lives of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, serving as beautiful examples of the Byzantine Renaissance. Before returning to the pier, you’ll stop at Pierre Loti, a popular café overlooking the Golden Horn, for a tea break. The café is known for its beautiful views and was named after a French writer and sailor who used to spend time there, contemplating the city he loved so much and inspired his first book Aziyade. A stop will be made at the spice market, where you'll see and smell the exotic products of mystical Istanbul. Note: Not available on Norwegian Spirit sailings of April 17th, September 20th or October 2nd 2013 sailings and on day one of the Norwegian Jade winter sailings. This tour is conducted in small groups and requires a minimum number of participants to operate. Please expect differences in tour durations due to traffic conditions. Designed for maximum adventure, this excursion takes place in a pristine, unspoiled forest where scenic beauty and rich ecological habitats create a true tropical paradise. The scenery and incredibly varied flora and fauna you’ll encounter while hiking through the sub-tropical forest makes this the adventure experience of a lifetime. Your adventure begins with a speed boat ride across the bay to a secluded beach, then an off-road adventure to the heart of the tropical forest. From the base camp at 2,000 feet, take a short mule ride to the peeks of the tropical hills where you’ll start a series of fantastic zip-lines that take you soaring 250 feet above the ground over the jungle foliage. The adventure continues as you splash through streams, rappel through waterfalls into natural river pools and negotiate the jungle bridges that bring you back to the base camp for a deserved rest, some snacks, and a chance to see photos of your wild adventure. Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age and weigh no more than 250 lbs. Not for guests with physical disabilities. This tour is physically demanding so you must have strength in your arms to climb a ladder and the ability to walk up steps or hills for 15 minutes. The Marietas Islands have been classified as a National Wildlife Preserve due to the numerous species of birds, marine mammals and fish that live here. This tour will let you experience the ecological sights and sounds of this natural environment. From the pier, an eco-guide will escort you to your state-of-the-art catamaran where you’ll meet your crew and receive a brief orientation. Leaving the dock, begin the 1-1/2-hour trip across Banderas Bay to the Marietas Islands. En route, get acquainted with the area through interesting and historical commentary. Keep an eye out for wild dolphins and sea turtles, which thrive in these waters. During the winter months (December to March) humpback whales are also a common sight. If encountered, your boat will pause to observe these creatures. As you approach the islands, your crew will provide you with detailed instructions on both snorkeling and kayaking. You’ll be fitted with snorkeling equipment and a review sheet, which contains information on the types of fish and animals you may encounter. After a 10-minute guided bird-watching trip around the islands by boat to familiarize you with the water conditions and to see the various species, your boat will drop anchor and you’ll have approximately 1 1/2 hours to explore the waters by kayak and/or snorkel. Enjoy a deli-style lunch and open bar aboard the catamaran on the way back as you just sit back and enjoy the entertainment provided by your enthusiastic crew. Depending on weather conditions, you’ll make a beach stop on the return back to your ship. Note: Participants must be in good health. Located in the west part of Costa Rica’s Central Valley is the scenic town of Sarchi. It is considered the home of Costa Rica’s best craftsmanship. Here, more than a century ago, primitive local artists began painting and decorating their traditional oxcarts in intricate and colorful designs. These powerful vehicles, hauled by teams of oxen, soon became the primary means of transportation throughout the nation. You’ll see how the hand-painted Costa Rican oxcart art has evolved into a brilliantly executed form of native artistic expression. You can also find an immense variety of local wood products, ranging from elaborated hand-made furniture to hand-carved doors. Leather goods and all kinds of souvenirs will be available for purchase. The 50-minute drive to Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin), will take you through Moscow Prospect, then on the Kiev Highway to the Egyptian Gates, the entrance to Tsarskoye Selo (Tsar’s Village in Russian). Catherine’s favorite palace is without a doubt one of the masterpieces of world art. Peter the Great presented this estate to his wife Catherine in 1710, and on it a small palace was built by the architect Braunstein. From this time until the time of the last Russian Tsar, it was used as the summer residence of the Royal Family. In 1756, it was expanded in the Baroque style. During World War II, the palace suffered severe damage, but since then has been restored and stands now in its original glory.
The palace contains a series of magnificent rooms, including the famous Picture Gallery and, of course, the Great Hall and the famous Amber Room. The parks of the estate add to the splendor of the palace, and several are embellished with a number of charming pavilions. Among them are the Grotto Pavilion and the Hermitage. The town of Pushkin is known not only for its remarkable palace and parks, but for the man it was named after. Since 1937, it has been named after Alexander Pushkin, the most celebrated poet in the country.

Enjoy a five-hour fishing excursion to the richest game fishing grounds know to anglers. As the boat heads out to the fishing area, the poles will be set with lures by the mate to minimize the possibility of the lines becoming tangled. The type of fishing is trolling. Boats do not troll with live bait, as it is good for perhaps fifteen minutes maximum. This means the boat will be in the open ocean and four lines with lures will be utilized in pole holders and outriggers. All of the hooked fish will be rotated between the participants on the boat. When a fish is spotted, the mate will reel in the four lines and then set a line with the live bait. If a fish takes the bait, the mate will 'set the hook' and give the pole to the first person in the fighting chair. When the first person has landed the fish (or if the fish got away), the next person will have the next hooked fish and so on. When everyone has had a turn in the chair the rotation will start over. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age. Due to the nature of this tour, pregnant women or guests with any known medical condition or history of illness, including heart ailment, knee/spinal/neck pain or injury or any other recent injury should not participate. Typically six participants will share a boat, however arrangements can be made, at additional costs to share a boat by two or three anglers, thereby improving your chances of catching a fish. All fishing boats contain the latest in safety equipment. less

From Piraeus, drive down the modern highway past Eleusis until you reach the ancient town of Corinth where Saint Paul lived and preached for two years. In ancient times, Corinth was amongst the richest cities and this is quite evident by its remains. Excavations of the area are still continuing today and have brought to light the Agora (marketplace), temples, fountains, shops, porticoes, baths and various other monuments you'll see. Peruse the nearby Corinth Museum, housing an impressive collection of antiquities unearthed from nearby areas. Most of the antiquities, including superb mosaics, are Roman in origin. The next site you'll visit is the famous Corinth Canal. Boarding a local boat from the village of Isthmia, you'll navigate the canal that is considered an engineering wonder. Carved into a massive rock, the 76-foot wide and 26-foot deep canal dramatically separates the Peloponnese from the rest of mainland Greece. Before taking the return journey to Piraeus, a unique photo opportunity can be had 200 feet above water, from the center of the bridge that spans its banks. Note: Tour involves walking for approximately 1/2 mile on uneven and gravel terrain. Neither the Corinth ancient site nor the canal motorboat are wheelchair accessible. Depending on the prevailing traffic in the canal, a slight delay may be experienced while crossing. The canal is closed for maintenance every Tuesday. This tour will not be available on Norwegian Jade sailings from May 11 through October 5, 2013 or for Norwegian Spirit sailings of August 6 and September 17, 2013. less

This tour does not visit the Ephesus Open-Air Museum or archaeological site which requires an extensive amount of walking. After an approximate one hour drive from the pier, you’ll arrive at the Upper Gate of Ephesus where your guide will provide you with some information about the site from the outside. You’ll have some free time for pictures and shopping outside the Upper Gate, from where you can see the Odeon in the distance. There is another photo stop on the road, at the Statue of Virgin Mary en route to the Interior Gate of Ephesus where you can find souvenirs and facilities, as well as more information about Ephesus from the outside, while seeing the Great Theatre. You’ll visit the remains of the Basilica of St. You'll also stop at the site where the Temple of Artemis once stood. One of the Seven Wonders, the temple welcomed visitors coming to Ephesus from the sea. Continue to Kusadasi downtown for a panoramic ride and a stop for a shopping opportunity and refreshments before returning to your ship. Note: This tour does not include a visit to the Ephesus Open-Air Museum or the House of Virgin Mary. The rugged Montserrat Mountain range northwest of Barcelona is one of Spain’s most picturesque areas. Like jagged teeth, the formations soar skyward creating unparalleled natural beauty. The mysterious peaks have inspired many legends and motivated Wagner to write some of his most beautiful arias. Departing from Barcelona, your coach takes you to Collbato. From there your trekking starts to reach Montserrat Monastery (approximately 3 hours). At a height of 2,380 feet, on a sort of natural platform, stands the Montserrat monastery, located in the middle of the mountains, which could be considered a unique example of natural art.
It appears that 20 or 25 million years ago, this geographical area was occupied by a small inland sea in which rock formations were deposited, later forming the mountainous relief known as Montserrat. Once in Montserrat you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the spectacular environment. The famous Montserrat Monastery, founded as a Benedictine Abbey during the 11th Century, is firmly perched on a ledge hanging 2,400 feet above the River Llobregat. Here, the 12th century Black Virgin of Montserrat awaits your discovery. Once the hiking tour has finished, you’ll have some free time to explore the monastery.
NOTE: Tour not suitable for guests with walking difficulties. Comfortable shoes, water, a light jacket and a hat are recommended. There are downhill and uneven paths, plus cobblestones to walk over. Walking at Montserrat’s monastery is at guests’ own discretion. You’ll get a snack box from the ship. Respectful attire that covers shoulders and knees should be worn in order to enter the church. less

Cross the Oresund by ferry on a visit to Elsinore, Denmark. Explore Helsingor, Helsingborg’s twin city that commands the Oresund Narrows. Visit the Kronborg Castle which was the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Viewed from the outside, the mixture of elegant royal castle and brutal military fortress is quite imposing. Inside it is a testimony to the art, design, and royal way of life prevalent during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. See the chapel, the sole remnant of the original 16th-century castle, and the Knights’ Hall. Continue with a guided walk through the picturesque town which dates back to 1426, and takes its feisty character from the Danish King Erik of Pomerania. King Erik introduced the infamous and reviled Sound Dues - a fee payable to the Danish Crown by ships passing through the sound. He also built Kronborg Castle at the narrowest point of the sound to ensure trouble-free and efficient collection of the dues. By walking through the city of Elsinore, you’ll notice that much has been done to preserve the old character, and has also kept its charm and vitality. Return to Helsingborg with a panoramic ferry ride. Once back in the city, see the famous landmark 'The Keep', the remains of a 14th-century fortress, as well as the main square (Stortorget) with its prominent neo-Gothic Town Hall. Note: Walkways in Elsinore and Kronborg Castle are of cobblestone surfaces. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers. less
