Start with a pleasant drive through Hafnarfjordur town, picturesquely located on an ancient lava flow. Continue along the pretty enchanting Kleifarvatn Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Iceland, where you'll make a short photo stop. Then head to the geothermal fields of Krysuvik, where you'll witness the powerful jets of steam escaping from deep below the earth’s crust and purple and yellow pools of boiling mud of the solfataras. Drive across the impressive volcanic plateau of Reykjanes, crossing the bustling fishing village of Grindavik. The Blue Lagoon is close by, crowned by clouds of vapor and surrounded by lava, owing its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant. The water of the lagoon is warm, mineral-rich and reputed for its healing properties. This natural and very popular health spa is now a major attraction in the region. After viewing the Blue Lagoon, drive over the lava-covered Reykjanes peninsula to the outskirts of the little town Njardvik the 'Icelander' is 23 m long, 5.25 m wide and weighs 80 gross tons. To commemorate the thousandth anniversary of his countrymen navigating to and discovering North America, the shipbuilder Gunnar Eggertsson traveled on the 'Icelander' to America and back again in the year 2000. Driving from the port to the center of the island, arrive to Monumento al Campesino; situated one next to the other, the house museum and peasant monument were built to immortalize the hard work of Lanzarote’s peasant community whose efforts materialized in La Geria, a unique production of agricultural goods from a dry and arid land. The peasant monument known as the Monument to Fertility was designed by Cesar Manrique with water tanks from old fishing boats elevated onto a rock platform. The strength of this work is found in the mixing of local and traditional architectural elements such as bright white color and round lines with the modern use of recycled materials assembled as a “meccano”. The sculpture placed in the geographic center of Lanzarote has the effect of a lookout and, from its approximately 50 feet (15 meters) of height of superposed boat tankers, becomes a water metaphor; the water element has become a symbol of the peasant’s hard life. The house museum contains an extraordinary collection of utensils and instruments used by the peasant community throughout history to work, transport and store products, or simply to live. After a short drive through the dramatic wine landscape of La Geria, you’ll arrive at Bodegas La Geria for a tour of the wine cellar and a taste of the local wine. La Geria wine cellar is one of the most important in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. It is located in the heart of Lanzarote’s main wine producing area. Built at the end of the 19th century by the Rijo family, it experienced crucial technological improvements after the takeover in 1993 by its current owners, allowing the production of high quality wines. Next, you’ll visit El Grifo Wine Museum, housed in ancient bodegas dating back to 1775 and built on top of the solidified lava from a volcanic eruption. A true example of local architecture, the cellar is marked by the simplicity of its construction materials: extraordinary thick walls made of volcanic stones and plaster combined with ceilings supported by long wooden beams, mainly coming from derelict ships. The exemplary ethnographic collection dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries gives the visitor an opportunity to observe the evolution of wine making equipment. Cesar Manrique´s monument to the mythological griffin placed on the road indicates access to the museum. During the visit at El Grifo, you’ll taste three different local wines with the assistance of a professional sommelier. Note: You must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in the wine tasting. less

Climbing up towards the central mountain range, your tour takes the road that leads to Monte, a village notable for its many fine properties and gardens. At Monte you'll have the opportunity to take a trip back to the past when you join the toboggan ride back to Livramento. The ride down the hill on the wicker sledges is an exciting one, providing you with a taste of the Madeira of the past decades, when this was the established form of transport. Then, proceed to Pico do Arieiro, the third highest peak on the island with an altitude of almost 6,000 feet (1,818 meters). Views are spectacular up here and on a clear day, it is even possible to see Porto Santo, the neighboring island, which is situated 30 nautical miles to the north. Continue to Camacha, a beautiful small village on the hills east of Funchal. It is famous for its 'Apple Festival' and its very active folklore dance groups. Camacha is also called 'the village of basket makers' which is actually not doing it any justice as it is much more than that; it represents the center of Madeira's willow craft industry. Nowadays they make furniture, hats, ornaments, kitchen utensils, wine holders and of course, baskets of all sizes and shapes. All in all, over 1,000 different articles are on exhibition, which is an absolute 'must see' for every visitor. Note: A jacket is recommended as Madeira has a microclimate. Tour involves walking on cobblestones and uneven surfaces with some approximately 10 steps at Monte, 10 to 15 steps at Pico do Arieiro and 5 to 12 steps at Camacha. Tour may be operated in reverse order. Toboggan ride will be closed in observance of Good Friday, so it will not be available for guests on the Norwegian Jade sailing of April 3, 2012. less

Today you’ll visit Ephesus, one of the most beautiful ancient cities in the world and learn its secrets. The city was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. Her temple was once considered the Seventh Wonder of the Ancient World and attracted pilgrims worshipping the female; first Cybele, then Artemis and finally the Virgin Mary. Among the ruins lays an impressive amphitheater, the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Scholastic Baths, the Lower Agora, State Agora, and Odeon. You’ll make a stop for a shopping opportunity and refreshments before returning to your ship in Izmir. Note: Expect crowded venues and long lines. There is approximately 1 1/4 miles of walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with inclines and steps. During summer months, expect crowded venues and long lines as well as temperatures that can reach extreme highs. We recommend that you drink a lot of water, use suitable sun protection and dress in layers. Board your coach for the drive to the Medieval village of Eze. As you climb its steep cobblestone streets, the alluring Medieval atmosphere will enchant you. Don’t miss the magnificent views of the coast from the top. Rejoin your coach to continue to ‘The Diamond’, Monaco. Your coach will park at the foot of the rock, where you'll be carried to the top by escalators and elevators. On the upper level enjoy a guided walking tour, passing by the main sights. After free time for lunch, you’ll reach Monte Carlo Square and first discover the well-known Casino Square. You’ll have some free time to take in the attractions of your choice around the Place du Casino. Then your coach will take you directly back to Cannes. Note: Your coach will park at the old train station and you’ll continue on foot (approx. 30 minutes) uphill, over cobblestone streets and large steps. To reach Casino Square, there is an approximate 10 minute walk and 80 steps from the coach parking area. Casino de Monte Carlo opens its Salles Americaines (free admission) at noon, with slot machines only. Salles Publiques (entrance fee of 10 Euros in cash) is open at 12:00 noon for Roulette, 2:00 p.m. for slot machines. Visitors must be at least 18 years of age, show passport and driver’s license. The small fishing village of Katakolon is the gateway to the mystical site of Ancient Olympia, some 25 miles to the east. Visit the remarkable site of Olympia where the first Olympiad was held. Its setting could not be more idyllic: in the middle of a fertile valley with the rivers of Alphios and Kladhios flowing past. The site was a sanctuary even before the stadium was built and the games took place in the sacred area called Altis. The most imposing monument in this area was the outstanding Temple of Zeus one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Nowadays there exists only the ruins of the temple and the statue has disappeared, its traces lost in the ages. The Temple of Hera, the Prytaneion and the Philippeion were also monuments standing in the sacred grove. The famous Stadium, the largest of its day, is entered through a long, tunnel-like passage constructed in Roman times. Continue to the Archaeological Museum, a five-minute walk from the site. Among the great finds of the area that are displayed here are the Head of Hera and the superb statue of Hermes of Praxiteles. In addition you’ll be able to admire ornaments from the Temple of Zeus, and many other priceless pieces. less

After a short sightseeing tour of Messina’s Piazza Duomo, you’ll continue to Savoca, a village where scenic beauty and historical-artistic heritage make it one of the most attractive, although less-known places in the area. At the entrance to the village you’ll make a short stop at ‘Bar Vitelli’, which houses a collection of local artisans’ tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot some scenes for the movie 'The Godfather'. You’ll visit the Cappuccini Church and see 37 mummified bodies of friars and noble people who lived there in the 18th and 19th centuries. Then start a slow walk along the village’s main street which climbs up the hill, featuring several churches dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Along your walk you’ll also see ruins of a Norman castle and magnificent views. Continue to Forza d’Agro, a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman Castle of Capo Sant'Alessio, and the coastline towards Messina. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola came here when they filmed some scenes for the movie '[The Godfather III'. From the main square, you’ll walk up a lane that leads to the Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of San Agostino and you’ll also see the Baroque Mother Church before driving back to the pier. The Shetlands, located 112 miles from the most northerly point to the southern tip, is the cross-roads of the northern seas, and unlike anywhere else in Scotland. They roll out in a long vista of moor and wiry pasture, penetrated by great sea inlets. Spectacular vertical stacks coated with seabird colonies, cliffs and coves curtained with wild-flowers; hidden white beaches on an endless coast, small crofts and settlements sheltering by the sea-edge. As you come ashore, you’ll notice the main town of Lerwick, with its narrow Main Street and small shops. Climbing out of Lerwick, the road travels south and you’ll soon be seeing the vistas of hillsides. Turn off the main road to travel through small agricultural areas where sheep farming is important. You’ll see the distinctive black and brown Shetland sheep grazing in pastures enclosed by neat dry-stone walls, the product of local quarries. You’ll also travel across heather-lad hills to Burra Isle and to Scalloway, the former capital of the Shetlands. See Scalloway Castle, a forbidding ruin dominating the town, built by Earl Patrick Stewart in 1600 using forced local labor. Stewart was the notorious despot who tyrannized Orkney and the Shetlands, where he extorted crushing taxes and fines from the people of the Shetlands. His cruelty eventually led to his downfall and, in 1615, he and his son were executed in Edinburgh. Built in Medieval style, the roofless shell, with corner turrets and gables, stands on a narrow promontory by the water. Today, it stands side by side with the commerce of a busy fishing port, a silent sentinel. Your tour route then heads towards the fertile Tingwall Valley. The road passes a collection of farm buildings, and then suddenly there are belts of trees, rising abruptly amongst the barren hills. From the comparatively tranquil landscapes of the Tingwall Valley, you’ll head towards Weisdale Voe where the landscape changes dramatically. Here you'll pay a visit to the small workshops of Shetland jewelers which manufacture a range of silver and gold jewelry featuring Celtic, Viking and local wildlife designs. The showroom also stocks a selection of local crafts. The excursion itinerary then takes to the eastern side of mainland Shetland and returns towards Lerwick. less

Your drive takes you to Nabeul, the capital of Cap Bon, well known not only for its beautiful sandy beaches, but also for its numerous potteries and perfumes made from jasmine and citrus blossoms. Enjoy some free time to visit the many shops and potteries before continuing your tour. Stop in Kelibia, stretching in both directions beneath the walls of Kelibia Castle, where you’ll visit the fishing port, home to Tunisia’s national fishing school. Drive to Kerkouane, one of Tunisia’s most remarkable ancient sites. Abandoned in its prime in the middle of the 3rd Century BC and never reoccupied, it offers a unique insight into the Punic world.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered ruins from the 4th and 3rd Centuries BC. The Punic Town of Kerkouane and its Necropolis were named a World Heritage Site in 1985 as the only example of a Phoenicio-Punic city which has survived. You’ll stop for lunch in Haouaria, at one of its seaside restaurants and visit the Roman quarries of Ghar El Kebir, where most of the stone used for the building of ancient Carthage and other towns of the region was cut. The drive back to Tunis is via Korbus and Soliman which completes your exploration of this beautiful and historical peninsula.
Note: This tour is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs or with walking difficulties. There is a good amount of walking at all sites visited, with uneven terrain in Kerkouane and Ghar El Kabir.
