Explore the wonders of our island home and learn about our Hawaiian culture, the creation of our islands, and the many plants and animals that thrive in our tropical environment. At Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, America’s only rainforest zoo, you will see over 100 varieties of palms and displays of native and introduced plants. Many native exotic animals and birds make their home here in lush exhibits, including Namaste, a beautiful white Bengal tiger. A visit to Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory provides an opportunity to sample the many goodies made with our favorite nut. You may view the production process, from tree to package, and walk around the garden setting surrounded by the 250,000 mac nut tree orchard. Next you’ll walk along the sites in Lava Tree State Park. The sites will amaze you, as the lava trees and your driver/narrator tell the story of when a native Ohia forest was overrun by lava flows in the late 1700s. On our way to Ahalanui Park, you will see the flow fields of the eruption that destroyed the village of Kapoho in 1960. When we arrive at Ahalanui Park, you will have time to enjoy a dip, or dangle your feet in the geothermal warm waters of the pond, and relax with a picnic lunch as you enjoy the ocean views before we head back to the ship. less

Take an exclusive journey through the history of Kilohana, the Manor House, train and Kalamaku show. This specially created evening begins with a ride on the Kauai Plantation Railway. This is an authentic narrow-gauge railroad that conducts tours of working tropical agriculture crops within the Kilohana estate and on surrounding lands. Powered by a diesel-engine locomotive, passengers ride in four restored King Kalakaua-style wooden cars. Your next stop will be at 22 North, a perfectly restored manor house at Kilohana which was the most expensive and beautiful home ever built on Kauai. You’ll delight in a unique meal featuring Kauai-grown meats, fish and produce, including fruits and vegetables from Kilohana Plantation’s 60-acre orchard and agricultural park. The manor house has been designated as a state historic landmark and has been restored to its vintage 1930 style. After dinner, you’ll be escorted to the Kalamaku show and your preferred performance seating. This is the story of a family journey across the vast blue waters of the Pacific with the spirit of the ocean as their guide. Our narrator recounts this epic tale through old Hawaiian chants and song while the dancers keep their rhythms against the strong beat of the drums. The story climaxes with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing. Note: Beverages at 22 North are available for purchase. Beverages and premium seating is included at the Kalamaku show. Must be at least 21 years of age and provide a valid ID to consume alcohol. Participants between the ages of 3 and 17 years of age will be charged the child rate. Price reflected on NCL.com is inclusive of the $10 Pre-book savings. less

This scenic journey takes you through upcountry Maui to the top of the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala. At the summit is a vast crater measuring seven-and-a-half miles long by two and-a-half miles wide. This dormant volcano last erupted in 1790 and imparts a sense of awesome power by virtue of its size alone. Haleakala Crater is a natural wonder and is the highest point on Maui. The views from the top at over 10,000 feet above sea level are magnificent. On a clear day, you'll even enjoy views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. From the rim, you'll be able to appreciate firsthand the unique beauty of this massive crater with its interesting mix of volcanic rock and plant life, some of which, like the silversword plant, is found only in Hawaii's volcanic craters. Note: This tour is not recommended for guests with respiratory or heart problems. We recommend you bring a sweater as temperatures range between 40-65 degrees Fahrenheit at the crater's top. less

From the pier you'll head to the 'wild west' town of Pahoa with its boardwalks, and Lava Tree State Park with its towering trees, on the eastern rift zone of Kilauea Volcano. Visit Ahalanui’s warm springs, with its volcanically heated water. Along the way and during brief stops, view the dramatic and beautiful scenery formed when lava meets the sea: cliffs, lava tubes and blow holes. At Kaimu, once the site of a famous black-sand beach and a small town, both destroyed by a 1990 lava flow, a stop is made where you can walk on the 'frozen fire' and view the active volcanic vent in the distance. Visit a survivor of the eruption, Uncle Robert's Hawaiian Village with a nearby snack shop where you can make purchases. View a picture exhibit of the area you just walked on and see how it looked prior to the 1990 lava flow. Note: Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to walk short distances unaided. less
