This city tour takes you to an unforgettable collection of beauty spots in and around Ocho Rios. First, you’ll visit the island's premier attraction, Dunn's River Falls. It is a place of unique beauty, where the river cascades over a giant limestone staircase to a white-sand beach and the warm Caribbean Sea. You may choose to climb the icy waterfalls with the aid of an experienced falls guide, just simply relax at the base of the waterfalls, or swim in the sea. Next, you’ll be taken on a guided stroll through the groves of trees and plants at the Shaw Park Botanical Gardens. The manicured grounds are beautified by a reflecting pond, gazebos and a natural waterfall. A final stop is made in the town for shopping before returning to your ship. Note: Order of stops may be changed to avoid crowds. The Dunn’s River Falls are the highlight of Jamaica and tend to be very congested. All guests participating in a tour that visits the falls should wear foot protection that can get wet. River socks are available for rent at the falls. The rocks at the falls are slippery. Climbing the falls is optional and at your own risk. Participants who do not wish to climb the falls may enjoy the small beach at the base. The walk to the beach is on a slope with many stairs, therefore participants should be in reasonably good health. less

Explore one of the most interesting Mayan sites in the region, a collection of ancient stone carvings dating from roughly 300 BCE to 100 BCE. These carvings were found at the Izapa Ruins and depict the Mayan ideas of the creation of the universe and their religious beliefs. Among the carvings is a particularly interesting and complex one called Stella 5 that depicts the Tree of Life as well as about a dozen human figures, animals and more. This complex carving has led to many different theories about its subject matter. Most theories concern the Mayan religious beliefs; however some involve speculation about visitors from other continents before the arrival of Columbus. The Tree of Life in the Mayan world is depicted as a Ceiba tree. This tall tree is commonly found in Chiapas and the Mayan jungles. It is easily identifiable by its extraordinary height, high crown and large, buttressed roots. For the Mayans, the tree represents a connection between the three realms of the universe- the underworld, earth and the heavens. Afterwards, take a short bus ride to Chocolate Discovery. Here, you’ll learn about the discovery and history of the sacred cacao bean and its importance to the Mayan people. Learn how the cocoa beans are transformed into chocolate right at the main square. Also, see a variety of local handcrafts and exotic flowers of the region. Local dances and marimba players will share their skills with lively performances. After a short stop to see the local church, you will be on your way back to your ship. Note: Guests should wear a hat and comfortable shoes. Bring eco-friendly sunscreen and bug repellent. A winding nature trail - through lush jungle in the heart of the spectacular Cranbrook Flower Forest - leads to the start of this unforgettable Canopy Tour adventure. After instruction from extensively trained guides, you’ll take a short nature walk to the first platform nestled on the hillside overlooking the treetops and jungle ‘canopy’. You begin your tour by soaring through the trees using an intricate system of harnesses, pulleys and carabineers on horizontal traverses, while gazing at the surrounding jungle until you arrive at the next cliffside platform, 45 feet above the ground. A series of traverses ranging from 105 feet to 660 feet in length will have you swinging through the Laughlands River Gorge, a giant valley carved from the surrounding mountain by ancient waters (a sparkling river still flows through it). At different points in the tour, you’ll even get a glimpse of the miles-away Caribbean Sea and learn interesting facts about the surrounding tree and plant life from our well-informed guides. After leaving the valley, you really fly, embarking on a series of long throws - with the last traverse being 600 feet long. Here, after removing your equipment, you unwind from your exhilarating adventure with a walk through the flowering trees of Cranbrook before being transferred back to the cruise ship pier via Chukka Cove Farm. Experience the three most popular attractions at Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica and the surreal beauty of Dunn's River Falls with this compressive package. First, at Mystic Mountain, a ride on the Rainforest Sky Explorer spirits you over the lush seaside tropical forest canopy, straight up 700 feet to the mountain's peak. Upon disembarking, the first attraction to be noticed (and not to be missed) is the educational pavilion, featuring interactive Jamaican history exhibits. A short walk away is the crown jewel of Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica at Mystic Mountain: the Bobsled Jamaica attraction. This signature ride features a gravity-driven plunge through 3,280 feet of twists and turns on a specially designed sled evoking the glory of the 1988 and 1992 Jamaican Olympic bobsled teams. The track for the bobsled run was laid specifically to avoid disturbing the natural landscape. As such, the trail curves around ancient trees, hugs majestic cliff faces and limestone outcroppings looming over the shoreline, and ushers you through narrow chutes of dense rainforest. You control your own decent with an in-sled handbrake, allowing for either a leisurely tour through the forest or a pulse-quickening dive to the bottom of the mountain. Once your bobsled slides to a graceful stop, you are slowly raised back through the rainforest to the top of the mountain, completing the entire circuit in about 10 minutes. Again at the peak, the Rainforest Sky Explorer waits to carry you down to the base, gliding this time through the dense canopy, affording you breathtaking views of the virgin forest and the rich biodiversity contained within. Note: Participants must be at least 46 inches tall and not suffer from a previous heart condition, neck or back injuries or is pregnant. less

The ride features a gravity-driven plunge of 3,280 feet with many twists and turns as you make your way through the tropical forest. You control the speed of your descent with an in-sled handbrake, allowing for either a leisurely ride or a pulse quickening dive to the bottom of the mountain. Once you come to a controlled stop, you and the bobsled are slowly raised back to the top through the forest on an elevated tramway. Spend as much time as you desire at the top admiring the panoramic views, swimming in the infinity edge pool or enjoying a tasty snack from the restaurant. When you are ready to depart, simply hop a ride on the Sky Explorer back to the bottom where a shuttle will take you back to the ship. Note: Participants must be at least 46 inches tall and not suffer from a previous heart condition, neck or back injuries or is pregnant. less

Board your air-conditioned transportation for the approximately 45-minute drive to the infamous mud volcano. On the way to the volcano, pass by the imposing San Felipe de Barajas Fortress situated outside the walled city. Here, you’ll have the opportunity enjoy a panoramic view of the old city. Upon arrival at the mud volcano an orientation to the rustic facilities will be provided. A mud volcano is created by natural gases emitted by decaying organic matter underground. As the mud is pushed upwards by the gas, it deposits and hardens above ground and forms what appears to be a huge anthill. As more mud oozes out and spills over the edge it grows in size, gradually forming what you can see today: a miniature 50-foot volcano with a rich, creamy, mud crater at the top. If you have never been in a mud volcano before, then the initial feeling of mud on your skin is unusual to say the least. When you feel like you are about to become one with the earth, just climb back down the staircase and stroll down to the nearby freshwater lake where you can wash the mud off. Note: The temperature of the mud is very warm to hot, therefore those who are susceptible to heat must not participate on this tour. It's said that the mud has healing properties; however the truth to this statement is not proven. To reach the top of the mud volcano where the pool of mud is located, requires the negotiation of numerous, steep steps. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel and adequate sun protection. less

Located in the west part of Costa Rica’s Central Valley is the scenic town of Sarchi. It is considered the home of Costa Rica’s best craftsmanship. Here, more than a century ago, primitive local artists began painting and decorating their traditional oxcarts in intricate and colorful designs. These powerful vehicles, hauled by teams of oxen, soon became the primary means of transportation throughout the nation. You’ll see how the hand-painted Costa Rican oxcart art has evolved into a brilliantly executed form of native artistic expression. You can also find an immense variety of local wood products, ranging from elaborated hand-made furniture to hand-carved doors. Leather goods and all kinds of souvenirs will be available for purchase. Lastly, make a brief stop at the little town of Grecia, famous for its historical metal church, Cathedral de la Mercedes. The church is painted in a deep dark red color and has a gothic style; its metal pieces were imported from Belgium in the 1890’s. Note: Wear light clothing, walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen. less

Our authentic Jamaican Country Bus, the “Zion Bus Line”, will take you on a unique tour from Island Village in Ocho Rios, via Claremont to the birth and final resting place of the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. This pilgrimage has been specifically designed for Reggae enthusiasts and hardcore Bob Marley fans, who would like to visit the “Graceland” of Reggae. The bus ride is a scenic tour of rural St. Ann. Rock to the rhythm of Bob’s greatest hits as your “dreadlocked” driver negotiates the narrow winding country roads to the mountain village of Nine Miles. Level the vibes with an IRIE Rum Punch and listen carefully as your “ductor” (conductor & guide) tells tales of the life and times of young Bob and how he grew up in the hills of St. Ann. On the return trip, stop at the local Jerk Centre for an authentic Jamaican lunch treat of Jerked Pork or Jerked Chicken, Rice & Peas, Festival and Lemonade . If you are a baby boomer who was hip to the 60’s & 70’s music of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff or if you are now a fan of Shaggy, Beenie Man and the Dance Hall phenomenon, this is a Reggae experience you can’t miss. Enjoy a five-hour fishing excursion to the richest game fishing grounds know to anglers. As the boat heads out to the fishing area, the poles will be set with lures by the mate to minimize the possibility of the lines becoming tangled. The type of fishing is trolling. Boats do not troll with live bait, as it is good for perhaps fifteen minutes maximum. This means the boat will be in the open ocean and four lines with lures will be utilized in pole holders and outriggers. All of the hooked fish will be rotated between the participants on the boat. When a fish is spotted, the mate will reel in the four lines and then set a line with the live bait. If a fish takes the bait, the mate will 'set the hook' and give the pole to the first person in the fighting chair. When the first person has landed the fish (or if the fish got away), the next person will have the next hooked fish and so on. When everyone has had a turn in the chair the rotation will start over. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age. Due to the nature of this tour, pregnant women or guests with any known medical condition or history of illness, including heart ailment, knee/spinal/neck pain or injury or any other recent injury should not participate. Typically six participants will share a boat, however arrangements can be made, at additional costs to share a boat by two or three anglers, thereby improving your chances of catching a fish. Loaded with great photo opportunities, this is a great family oriented tour. You’ll start with your guide giving you a historic and informational briefing about Baja and your tour. Just minutes after departure from the pier, step down into the semi-sub and encounter the underwater wonders said to be part of one of the most fertile bodies of water in the world which host over 800 species of fish from small tropicals to whale sharks. This air-conditioned vessel is built according to U.S. Coast Guard’s requirements and regulations to ensure passenger safety, comfort and security. Totally surrounded by glass paneled windows, each seat has a fabulous view and comes equipped with a fish identification card to help you identify all the unknown creatures awaiting you. Your guide will provide you an educational as well as entertaining trip into a world normally seen through the eyes of fish. The vessel never leaves the surface as you motor along sitting safe and sound eight feet below. Just on the other side of your glass window you’ll come face to face with the underwater creatures around Pelican Rock - the #1 dive spot in Cabo. Your turnaround point is Land’s End, the last tip of rock, the last bit of land in Baja California. This is where the waters of the Sea of Cortez meet those of the Pacific Ocean. Go up to the surface for great photos of the arch and the sea lion colony. The sub will take you back to the pier with your memories and camera filled with the underwater wonders of Cabo! Note: Children under the age of 4 are free of charge but must remain seated on parents lap. This tour is not recommended for those passengers with claustrophobia or those prone to seasickness. The semi-sub is equipped with a restroom as well as outdoor seating for those needing fresh air en route. Guests must be able to negotiate several steps down into the vessel. less

This former mining town is a world away from typical resorts and ordinary tourist attractions. As the road weaves through the mountains, you'll enjoy fantastic scenery and typical scenes of rural Mexican life, making the journey both breathtaking and relaxing. Experience the leisure of a bygone era with a visit to the stately Flavel House. Now a museum, the house was built in 1885 for Captain George Flavel, Astoria's first millionaire and one of it's most prominent citizens. Today, this queen Anne-style home is a living tribute to the elegance of the Victorian period and the history of the Flavel family. Your guided tour begins at the pier and travels along Astoria's tree-lined streets. As you approach the Flavel House, you'll be immediately struck by the park-like grounds that cover an entire city block; many of the trees that surround the home were planted by the Flavels over a century ago. This beautiful setting was also the site of many Hollywood movies including the 1980's hit The Goonies and Short Circuit. One of the best-preserved examples of Queen Anne architecture in the Northwest, Flavel House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the outside, this stunning mansion boasts a decorative exterior, three-story octagon tower, impressive balconies and verandas. Inside, the approximate 11,600 square foot mansion features elegant woodwork, stained glass windows, and in-laid hardwood floors. As you walk into the grand entry, it's like stepping back into the 19th century. The first floor features 14-foot high ceilings, a formal parlor, music room, library, dining room, conservatory, kitchen and a butler's pantry. Travel across Young’s Bay Bridge for the short journey to Fort Stevens State Park. Once you arrive a friendly and knowledgeable guide will take you on a tour of this nearly 146-year-old fort and share its fascinating history. Built by the U.S. Army in the waning days of the Civil War it may seem odd that Oregon could have been the site of a battle or two. But the U.S. government was fearful that the British would join the Confederates, so the fort was established to protect the North from a possible English invasion. And to protect it from a land attack, the fort was surrounded by a moat with a drawbridge. Today, the gun batteries, fortifications and other buildings are preserved along with 3,700 acres of woodlands, lakes, wetlands and beaches. Your guide will continue to lead you through the complex and its bunkers, abandoned gun batteries, and tower stations before heading up to the commander's station for a scenic view of the Columbia River. Then, you'll venture underground to the Battery Mishler. Here, during WWII, 10 inch rifles were mounted on disappearing carriages, which hid the guns behind concrete and earthen walls when not being fired. These powerful guns could fire 617-pound shells at a distance of nine miles. The museum will be your last stop before heading back to the pier. Enjoy browsing through the interesting artifacts that date back to the Civil War and stop in at the gift shop, which offers a variety of souvenirs commemorating your visit. less

After boarding your bus, you'll travel a short distance to the Astoria Column for a brief photo stop. Built in 1926, the 125-foot tall concrete and steel structure features a cast-iron 164 steps staircase that leads to an observation deck. If you decide to climb to the top, you'll be rewarded with majestic views of Astoria, the Pacific Ocean, and the snow-capped volcanoes of the Cascade Range. But views from the base are just as panoramic, the column stands atop Coxcomb Hill, Astoria's highest point. Next, you'll head towards Lewis and Clark National Historical Park for a tour of Fort Clatsop. The 50-ft by 50-ft structure is a replica of the seven-room fort built by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition after realizing their goal of reaching the Pacific. Named after the friendly local Indian tribe, Fort Clatsop would be the explorer's home for three months before returning home. Rangers and re-enactors are on hand to answers any questions. Your next stop is the Columbia River Maritime Museum. Located on Astoria's historic waterfront, the museum features one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast including the Lightship, Columbia. Lightships served as floating lighthouses, providing a beacon for ships at sea when a beam from a traditional coastal lighthouse couldn't reach. After your tour, you'll return to your ship via a scenic drive through Astoria. Nestled between the Columbia River and Young’s Bay, Astoria is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Established as a fur trading post in 1811, today Astoria boasts a rich heritage of charm and natural beauty. Some of the sights you'll see included picturesque Victorian and Queen Anne style homes and churches; Uniontown, home of the men who worked at the Union Fish Cannery; and the "Doughboy" monument, dedicated to the soldiers from Astoria who gave their lives during World War I. Note: The Lightship Columbia portion of the tour is not recommended for individuals with mobility challenges due to steep access ladders and elevated thresholds. less

While the existence of the cave complex near Horne Lake was no doubt known about for centuries by the island’s indigenous people, it was not mentioned in writing until 1912. As news of it spread outside the local community in the ensuing decades, increasing numbers of visitors, resulted in acts of vandalism and “souvenir gathering.” The caves gained protection and professional management when they were designated a Provincial Park in 1985. Meet your guide on the pier and drive for an hour north east along the coast to Horne Lake Provincial Park, voted BC's Best Natural Site. A gravel road leads you to the trail head, from where you'll hike about 1.5 miles / 2.4 km along a fairly steep trail to the cave entrance. Follow your guide down the narrow ladder and into the cave, where you’ll spend about 40 minutes exploring the Main Cave, with its beautiful crystal formations and numerous fossils. Once back on the surface, hike back to your van and drive to a spot above Horne Lake for a gourmet picnic of smoked wild salmon, local cheeses, crackers, olive/pickle platter and a Nanaimo dessert bar. Afterwards, return to Nanaimo, where you may elect to be dropped off downtown or return directly to the pier. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age and weigh no more than 300 lbs. less
