Join professional mountaineering guides for a three-hour trek through a glacial icescape. A scenic helicopter flight will take you to your trekking site. No experience is necessary, as guides will teach you the proper use of the mountaineering gear so that the remote areas of the glacier can be accessed. All you need to bring is a camera, a willing attitude and an appetite for adventure. For the more adventurous, there is the Extended Helicopter Glacier Trek which includes three hours of hiking and climbing over the rugged terrain of a glacier. Your guide will teach you basic climbing techniques enabling you to safely climb and descend the ice walls and lead your group on an exploration of the glacier’s most pristine and remote areas.
Note: Participants must be at least 16 years of age and in good physical condition. Flight time is approximately 35 minutes. Wind/water-proof outerwear, boots, gloves, ice axe, gaiters, crampons, harness and helmet are provided. This tour is non-refundable. This tour is not available in late September.Guests 250 lbs. and over are charged an additional rate to reserve two seats for safety and comfort. These spaces are capacity controlled. Combine the highlights of Southeast Alaska with classic floatplanes, world-renowned fishing in remote waters, experienced local guides and abundant wildlife in a pristine wilderness setting. This foremost guiding service caters to the first timer with hands-on instruction. The experienced fly caster will enjoy the challenge of Alaskan fishing and the guide interaction. All fishing is done on an eco-conscious catch-and-release basis. Fishing species include cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and various salmon species. All first class gear and equipment is provided, and an Alaskan smoked salmon snack and beverages are included. The only way to experience Alaskan fishing at its finest is to experience the heart of the Alaskan wilderness--something road access simply doesn't allow. Your guide will choose the stream or river fishing location based on current fishing reports, weather and scenic/wildlife variables. Whether you’re a seasoned fly fisherman, a photographer, or a discriminating traveler looking for the true wilderness experience, this is a once in a lifetime adventure.
Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age and able to walk up to a 1/2 mile on uneven terrain and shallow streams. Combine a scenic helicopter flight, a wilderness hike in the Tongass National Forest and a ride aboard the historic narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. It’s a perfect mix of breathtaking scenery, great transportation and exercise. Board a helicopter for your flight with views of glacially carved valleys and stunning scenery before landing at Glacier Station. Set out on a 4 to 5 mile hike along the remote upper Skagway River and through pristine old-growth and temperate rain forest on your way to see the magnificent Laughton Glacier.
Your guide will share information about the region's unique natural history throughout the hike and allow plenty of time for photography. Bears, mountain goats, moose and other wildlife call Laughton Valley home. Return to Glacier Station and board the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad for the 14 mile scenic ride back to Skagway. Your guide will provide an overview of the train and its history. Flight pattern varies based on current weather conditions.
Note: Participants must be at least 9 years of age, be in good physical condition and able to walk over uneven terrain for 3 hours. Dress in layers and wear sturdy walking shoes. Please refrain from bringing large packs or excess gear due to helicopter weigh and space restrictions. Passport required. Guests 250 lbs. and over are charged an additional rate to reserve two seats for safety and comfort.
