This is the experience many anglers dream of when planning an Alaskan vacation, fishing for the largest flatfish in the world, the Pacific Halibut. Imagine catching your first wild halibut with your friends or family and the bragging rights that will come with sharing this delectable fish back home. Unlike many other Alaska destinations, Ketchikan fishing is in protected waters, a short ride from the marina. No matter your skill level, you'll fish like a local, with a Penn rod and Penn 114 reel in your own two hands, working the sandy flats, drifting with the current, jigging in waters as deep as 300 feet. Spend the day with an experienced Alaskan guide, in pursuit of the elusive halibut, learning the secrets of fishing circle hooks, working the tides and battling your leviathan. You can choose to custom process your halibut, as well as purchase a selection of local Alaskan seafood to include with the shipment of your bounty home. Note: Participants must be at least 5 years of age, weigh a minimum of 30 lbs and a maximum of 300 lbs. Deck or rubber soled shoes must be worn on board. We recommend that you wear warm, layered clothing. Rain gear, rubber boots, comfortable float jackets, wool socks, hat and gloves. Halibut fishing equipment and tackle are provided. Actual fishing duration is 4 1/2 hours. Alaska State Law requires a fishing license that can be purchased in cash at the outfitting room for $20. You’ll need a credit card in order to have your catch processed and sent home (U.S. only). Fish cannot be stored on board the ship. less

Most people do not realize that chocolate was first discovered in Mexico and processed by the Aztec and Mayan Indians. But these Indians created chocolate items and drinks that are very different from the kinds of refined milk chocolate items we are familiar with from Europe. In fact, to their everlasting regret, the Mexicans never thought of adding milk to their recipes, but DID create many tasty, unusual and intriguing chocolate foods. You will be transferred to a quiet Ocean View terrace where you will first be presented with a Chocolate Martini (adults only) before this in-depth presentation gets underway describing the many stages the chocolate seed pods must go through. By grinding together some of the traditional ingredients, guests get to participate first hand in some of the same chocolate processing techniques that after many centuries are still used by the Mayans. The session will culminate in the tasting of the various chocolate items produced. After the Chocolate portion of the tour, guests will have time to shop from a large variety of chocolate products including shampoo and have the option either to go back to their ship or go to downtown. Guests opting to go downtown will be responsible for their transportation back to the ship. Note: Participants must be at least 4 years of age. Note: Participants who are allergic to chocolate or nuts are not allowed. less

After boarding your bus, you'll travel a short distance to the Astoria Column for a brief photo stop. Built in 1926, the 125-foot tall concrete and steel structure features a cast-iron 164 steps staircase that leads to an observation deck. If you decide to climb to the top, you'll be rewarded with majestic views of Astoria, the Pacific Ocean, and the snow-capped volcanoes of the Cascade Range. But views from the base are just as panoramic, the column stands atop Coxcomb Hill, Astoria's highest point. Next, you'll head towards Lewis and Clark National Historical Park for a tour of Fort Clatsop. The 50-ft by 50-ft structure is a replica of the seven-room fort built by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition after realizing their goal of reaching the Pacific. Named after the friendly local Indian tribe, Fort Clatsop would be the explorer's home for three months before returning home. Rangers and re-enactors are on hand to answers any questions. Your next stop is the Columbia River Maritime Museum. Located on Astoria's historic waterfront, the museum features one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast including the Lightship, Columbia. Lightships served as floating lighthouses, providing a beacon for ships at sea when a beam from a traditional coastal lighthouse couldn't reach. After your tour, you'll return to your ship via a scenic drive through Astoria. Nestled between the Columbia River and Young’s Bay, Astoria is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Established as a fur trading post in 1811, today Astoria boasts a rich heritage of charm and natural beauty. Some of the sights you'll see included picturesque Victorian and Queen Anne style homes and churches; Uniontown, home of the men who worked at the Union Fish Cannery; and the "Doughboy" monument, dedicated to the soldiers from Astoria who gave their lives during World War I. Note: The Lightship Columbia portion of the tour is not recommended for individuals with mobility challenges due to steep access ladders and elevated thresholds. less
