Departing your ship, drive along Avenida do Mar to reach the terminal. There you’ll board your cable car for a ride over the city and harbor on our way to the Village of Monte, located in the outskirts of Funchal, on this cruise tour. At Monte you'll have the opportunity to take a trip back to the past when you join the toboggan ride back to Livramento. The ride downhill in a wicker sledge is an exciting one, providing you with a taste of the Madeira of past decades, when this was the established form of transport from Monte to Funchal. After a short drive along a winding road you’ll reach Eira do Serrado, offering spectacular views of the interior of the island. Take a short walk up to the viewpoint on Pico do Serrado at an altitude of approximately 3,592 feet (1,095 meters), for an amazing view down onto the village of Curral das Freiras (Nuns Valley), a small village located in the heart of the island, nestled between almost perpendicular mountains. In 1566, the nuns from the Santa Clara convent fled from pirates attacking Funchal and found seclusion here where they also brought the convent’s treasure. Your last stop before returning to your ship will be at one of the famous wine lodges in Funchal, where you'll sample (and may purchase) the world famous Madeira Wine. Note: A jacket is recommended as Madeira has a microclimate. This tour involves approximately 3/4-mile of walking (5 to 10 minutes) on cobblestones and uneven surfaces with approximately five steps to get to the viewpoint at Eira Do Serrado; approximately 10 steps at Monte and five to eight steps at the Madeira Wine Company. Cable car is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties as access is similar to a ski lift; i.e. cable car does not stop for boarding, rather it moves slowly. An approximately five-minute walk is required from the bus stop to the wine lodge. Itinerary may be operated in reverse order. Toboggan ride will be closed in observance of Good Friday, so it will not be available for guests on the Norwegian Jade sailing of April 3, 2012. less

SNUBA is a combination of snorkeling and Scuba diving, made fun, safe and easy. After safety instructions, your dive master will take you into shallow water to try out your skills and build your confidence. Once you're ready, proceed out to deeper water (15-18 feet), where you'll find schooling fish and brilliant coral formations. Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age. You’ll spend approximately 20-30 minutes in the water during your SNUBA dive. Bring a towel. Due to restrictions by the Dive Provider, any participants currently taking any medication or with a previous medical condition should bring a note from their primary physician stating that they are medically cleared to participate on this excursion. less

Located on the west coast of Naples, you’ll find the still-active volcano, Mount Vesuvius. For the adventurous traveler, this is the ideal way to explore the volcano that destroyed the city of Pompeii. You’ll arrive at the base of the National Park of Vesuvius, from where you’ll board a special 4 x 4 coach. Ecologic and equipped with air-conditioning, it will take you to a height of about 3,000 feet. During the drive up the path in the National Park, you’ll relax looking at the Gulf of Naples. Once at 3,000 feet, you’ll proceed on foot for another 1,000 feet up on a narrow zigzagging path. Once on the rim of the crater walls, you’ll meet an official alpine guide and walk part of the way around the edge to enjoy this natural phenomenon and, of course, a panoramic view that includes Naples and the entire bay. After visiting the crater, you’ll walk back to the 4 x 4 coach, which will take you to the motorcoach parking for your return drive to Naples and your ship. Note: The tour will not operate for Norwegian Jade winter sailings from the end of November through mid-April. Participants must be able to walk approximately 1 1/2 miles on an incline. This tour is not recommended for guests with a history of heart disease or high blood pressure and does not include lunch. During summer months expect extreme heat; we recommend that you dress in layers, wear a hat and bring bottled water. In the event of bad weather and the closure of Mt. Vesuvius crater, this tour will not operate. less

Explore the natural wonder of the Everglades from the comfort of your specially designed airboat. Informative, fun and exciting, this tour takes you deep into one of America’s largest National Parks - the Everglades. Here you’ll come face to face with alligators, exotic birds and native fish while gliding over an endless river of grass. Throughout the approximately 30-minute journey, your experienced guide will introduce you to the unique eco-system of the park as you experience the vast expanse of this saw grass wilderness passing by lush vegetation, mangrove swamps and hardwood hammocks. Known for its rich bird life, particularly large wading birds, be on the look out for the roseate spoonbill, white ibis, wood stork, great blue heron and a variety of egrets. It’s also the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles exist side by side. Following your airboat ride you’ll be able to explore the park on your own. The Reptile Show will provide you with an informative, interactive opportunity to become familiar with the features of the American alligators. You may also choose to take the Jungle Trail, which leads to an area featuring American Alligators, and a crocodile exhibit, including various species from around the world. On this two-tank dive you’ll travel through deep submarine canyons just off San Lucas Bay and marvel at the rich marine environment on this adventure. Diving locations are just off the rocky shore and feature large boulders and pinnacles; the rocky walls attract schools of fish such as snapper and goatfish. The ledges are covered with marine invertebrates, starfish, nudibranchs and urchins. Look out for king and Cortez angelfish, Moorish idols and guinea fowl puffers. Note: Participants must be at least 12 years of age, weigh less than 280 lbs. and in good physical condition. You’ll be required to complete a medical release form. You must present a valid certification card (C-Card) and must have logged a certified dive within the last year. All equipment, including professional supervision and boat transportation is included. Dive sites are chosen based on weather and sea conditions and are subject to change. less

Start your tour of the beautiful city of Cartagena with a photo stop at San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, situated outside the walled city and considered the largest Spanish fort in the New World. Continue to the Old City and wander through narrow cobblestone streets and squares while you admire the Colonial architecture, balconies and old churches. Your next stop will be the Gold Museum where you'll see beautiful displays of valuable pre-Colombian gold artifacts and some of the old ceramics in the Americas. You'll also learn about the Zenu nation’s amazing hydraulic engineering achievements. Enjoy a folkloric show during your visit to the Navy Museum which was established in 1986. Here, you’ll find historic military efforts of Cartagena, see the wealth of historical artifacts, maritime life and naval history of Colombia. A bottle of water or soft drink will be served upon arrival at the museum. Before returning to your ship, take home some souvenirs from Pierino Gallo shopping center and enjoy panoramic sightseeing through Bocagrande, the modern part of the city. Barcelona’s favorable location, in perfect harmony with its immediate surroundings, together with its ease of access and varied climate, make it a starting point for discovering new landscapes and enjoying contact with nature. Your tour departs from the port passing through the main streets of Barcelona to reach Catalunya Square, considered the heart of the city. From here, you’ll continue the panoramic drive along Passeig de Gracia, the best-known boulevard in town. Your guide will point out of the masterpieces of Gaudi’s architecture: the Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, two of the best-known landmarks of the city. Reaching Diagonal Avenue, your tour continues to Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship ‘La Moreneta,’ the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles to the west of Barcelona. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost a thousand years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working, and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. Besides the monks, the Escolans also live in Montserrat, forming the oldest boy’s choir in Europe. During your stay and visit to Montserrat, you’ll visit the sanctuary and have free time to take-in the activity of your choice. Spend extra time at the sanctuary, explore some more, take pictures, shop for that last-minute souvenir, have lunch or grab a coffee at one of the restaurants and cafeterias on location. Once you finish the visit you’ll be driven back to your ship. less

Take a journey into the heart of rural Chiapas for a deeper understanding of the local people and landscapes. Discover the culture that blends ancient traditions with modern necessity. Board your air-conditioned bus and travel through the Chiapas countryside to the Ejido Miguel Aleman banana farm. Your guide will acquaint you with the history of the region, its people and traditions, as well as the growing and collection process of the bananas. Then, travel into the town that owns and runs the banana co-op and visit the local community center or school; here, you’ll meet and mingle with the local children and the dedicated teachers and social workers. You’ll be able to donate a kit pack to one of the kids at the community center or local school. The kit pack contains some of their basic day to day needs. Continue to the Banana Packing Plant, where you’ll discover how the whole community works together to pack the bananas they all produce. On the way back, you will get a last glimpse of life in rural Chiapas before returning to the pier. Note: Guests should wear a hat and comfortable shoes. Bring eco-friendly sunscreen and bug repellent. Part of the proceeds of this tour will go to the community center learning program. Most areas are not wheelchair accessible. less
