Begin your tour with a 40-minute scenic boat ride through historic Nassau Harbor to Blue Lagoon Island. Upon arrival you’ll be given a fun and interactive orientation covering the natural history of sea lions, animal training techniques, ocean conservation and wildlife guidelines. This educational and entertaining encounter is your chance to experience sea lions live and close-up like never before. You’ll have the opportunity to kiss, hug, feed and play with these affectionate and humorous marine mammals. Your sea lion interaction will take place from specially designed, waist-deep submerged platforms in a calm, private island lagoon with ten or less guests in your program. While at the facility, you’ll also have the opportunity to speak with one of the many animal care staff about the care of marine mammals. It will be a unique adventure you’ll never forget! Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age and 48 inches or taller. Guests ages 8 to 12 must be accompanied by a responsible paying adult with a ticket for this encounter. Not advised for pregnant women. Guests must be able to go up and down steps to access the platform. This tour is not able to accommodate handicapped guests. No cameras or videos will be allowed on the sea lion encounter platform. A professional on-site photo and video staff will capture your sea lion interaction and have your memorable souvenirs at an additional cost. Learn about, meet and interact with the bottlenose dolphin. The friendly nature and legendary intelligence of these animals account for their huge popularity. You’ll be transferred to and from Blue Lagoon Island by boat, from the pier (40 minutes each way). This lagoon is home to 19 bottlenose dolphins. Upon arrival, you’ll meet the dolphin trainers for a 10-minute educational briefing and be helped onto a floating platform in small groups for the opportunity to touch and interact with dolphins in waist-deep water. Note: Participants ages 3 or younger receive free admission if accompanied in the program by a participating paying adult (parent or guardian at least 18 years of age). Children between the ages of 3 to 12 must be accompanied in the water by a paying guardian/parent. The paying guardian/parent must be book at the same time of the child participant; these booking cannot be made onboard as space is very limited. Actual in-water encounter time is approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Approximately 1/2 to 1 mile of walking on the pier is required. Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel from your ship. Return to the Victorian era as you stop at the University of Tampa campus, once the former Tampa Bay Hotel built in 1891 as a palatial resort. This elegant structure stands on 150 acres of lush tropical grounds overlooking the Hillsborough River. The Hotel was built and furnished by railroad tycoon Henry Bradley Plant, recapturing an aura for an opulent Victorian winter resort. This magnificent structure, with its eye catching silver minarets, was modeled after the Alhambra Palace in Granada Spain and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1886, Vicente Martinez Ybor bought forty acres of land from local Tampa citizens and began building Ybor City. Thus began this community of factories and small worker’s homes. At the Ybor City State Museum complex, you will pass by an authentically renovated cigar worker’s shotgun house dating from the turn of the century that was the home of early cigar factory workers. A stop will be made in Ybor City and you will learn about the unique society that created the cigar industry, the primary manufacturing industry responsible for the early development of Tampa. Other highlights include a drive along Bayshore Boulevard where you’ll see lovely upscale homes overlooking the Bay and the waterfront area, home to the Tampa Convention Center, Forum, Cruise Terminals, Shoppes at Channelside, the Florida Aquarium and Harbour Island, plus the Sports Complexes that are home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the spring training home of the New York Yankees.
