Depart from Venice for the splendor of Malta where you can roam the capital city of Valleta to discover panoramic views and grand history. Visit the beautiful Upper Barrakka Gardens, created in 1775, from where you can admire majestic views of the Grand Harbour. A gift from an Italian knight, the gardens were meant to be a recreational retreat for knights belonging to the Order of St. John and are today filled with locals and visitors alike who’d like to take in the view. Walk to the nearby St. John's Co-Cathedral, home of Caravaggio’s 17th century masterpiece - The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. Travel even farther back, centuries, with a drive to Tarxien and visit Neolithic temples dating back to 3600 BC! Discovered by a local farmer in the early 20th century, the site was excavated soon thereafter to reveal a complex system of prehistoric temples, with much of the carving and relief still intact. It’s a truly unique experience you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the world. Except maybe Barcelona. Visit the Barrio Gotico for more examples of ancient ruins that exist alongside medieval and gothic architecture. Stroll magnificent cobblestone paths that twist and turn with a stunning example of history virtually at every turn. If you’re a fan of seafood, don’t miss the Catalan specialty, zarzuela. A delightful mix of halibut, squid, mussels, prawns and monkfish for a seaside extravaganza your taste buds will thank you for. Then, head back to the ship for your romantic transatlantic crossing to the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Sat Venice, Italy (EMBARK) --- 6:00 pm

Venice, Italy
You could start a discussion about Venice by praising its restaurants, wine bars, marble churches or blown glass. But you probably won't. You'll likely start with the fact that Venice is built on water. It is a place where people either float slowly down palace-lined man-made waterways or stroll down narrow alleyways. There's no more extraordinary place to find yourself, or lose yourself. Be sure to stay in Venice before your next European cruise.
