Best Cruise Experience Of My Life
Before embarking on the Spirit for our 9 days to Morocco and the Canary Islands, we had had only one prior cruise experience. We had heard about Norwegian's Freestyle Cruising and were intrigued by it. Since we are on vacation, I prefer not to dress up or be told when to eat dinner. Freestyle Cruising is exactly that - you get to do what you want, when you want. The Spirit is medium sized and that's what we wanted. The ratio of crew to passengers was just perfect so that we received excellent service no matter where we were on the ship. Our housekeeper was The Best. He seemed to know our habits and preferences without grilling us about them. Our stateroom was always made up and meticulously clean. We particularly enjoyed the towel art, of which I took a picture each night. The food at Raffles was absolutely fantastic. It was varied, well done, fresh, and plentiful. There were several layers of supervisors which gave me confidence that each meal was going to be good and up to standards. If I have a "complaint," it would be that the wait staff are too quick to clear the tables. My husband and I had to take turns getting food so we didn't lose our table or our napkin or the silverware. The cruise director (Gio Charps) was thoroughly fun. His one-liner jokes are to be remembered and repeated. I still laugh at his joke about the Captain getting seasick after we crossed the Gibraltar Strait and into the choppier Atlantic Ocean. And Miguel, the shore excursion guy, was just as humorous. He would remind us each day of when we had to be back on the ship. He would make us repeat the time. One day, he asked a person sitting up front what time was on board time. We didn't hear the answer, only Miguel's joke of "no, not tomorrow, tonight." We had a most relaxing cruise. We met a lot of nice people from around the world. We ate well. We slept soundly. We were entertained. We visited exotic and beautiful places. We could not have asked for anything more. We're planning to cruise like a Norwegian again in 2014!
