Take a look at Bergen and its surrounding scenery from the water and by land. Bergen has a beautiful setting between seven mountains and the sea, sheltered by a myriad of islands from the North Sea. The Norwegian Kings resided here, and many historical events took place in this busy port, which in those days had no less than 27 churches and abbeys. Board your boat and continue between the scenic archipelagos of islands to Lysefjord. Here, travel by bus through the suburbs to Bryggen. Next, take a guided walk through the alleyways among the picturesque warehouses and waterfront before returning to your ship. Note: Wear comfortable walking shoes and a windproof jacket. This tour may operate in reverse order. At Bryggen, guests may choose to remain in the bus instead of taking the guided walk. less

Start with a guided walk through old parts of Bergen. Make your way past the University Library and Botanical Gardens. See the Grieg Hall, built in the shape of a Grand piano and the park where many of the city’s Art Museums are located. Cross the Bergen’s main square, Torgalmenningen, with the Seamen’s statue. Soon after, pass the Fish Market on your way to Bryggen Hanseatic Quarters. Here, is where nowadays many artists and businessmen have settled, you can also find a great variety of restaurants and pubs in the area. Before reaching Bergen’s oldest street, Øvregaten Street, pass by St. Mary’s church, one of the outstanding Romanesque churches in the country. Bergen has seven mountains, and on this tour you’ll take the funicular to the top of Mt. Floien, 1,000 feet above the city. The ride takes about five minutes and travels at a 26-degree incline, stopping for commuters along the way. At the summit, be prepared for magnificent views of the city, harbor, and countryside, weather permitting. There’ll be time for shopping or a short walk on one of the forest trails before you return to the city center by funicular and before heading back to your ship. Note: Participants must be at least 12 years of age and in good health. Wear comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen. This tour may operate in reverse order. less

Bergen was founded in 1070, when the Kingdom of Norway was at the peak of its power. Today, Bergen is the second largest city in Norway. Pass by the medieval King Haakon's Hall and the Rosenkrantz Tower. Continue to the picturesque, wooden buildings of Bryggen, also called the Hanseatic quarter of Bergen. Then, turn up to the lower Fløien Funicular station, where in a few minutes you’ll be whisked up to the top of the hill at approximately 1000 ft above sea level for some breathtaking views. Pass by the Fish Market and drive towards the peninsula of Nordnes, with its typical 19th century white painted wooden houses. Continue along the peninsula with splendid views through the centre of the city; here, you’ll get a glimpse of the Nordasvannet Lake. By this lake is where the composer Edvard Grieg resided. Also, drive by the royal residence called "Gamlehaugen" before returning to your ship via different route. Note: This tour may operate in reverse order. less

Begin your tour by passing the Fortress of Bergenhus with the coronation hall - King Haakon's Hall. Also drive by the Fish Market, Bryggen and Gablehouses. Enjoy the green slope sights of the city and its characteristic mountains. Pass by the Grieghall, the concert hall of Bergen, as well as the suburbs with old well kept houses and gardens. Visit the Fantoft Stave Church, rebuilt after a fire in 1992. This church has been re-constructed using pinewood from the Sognefjord area, similar to the ones built in the Middle Ages. The building has an oriental look with dragonheads and serpents on the roofs to frighten away the evil spirits. Upon returning to the central areas via different route, head out to the peninsula of Nordnes which divides the harbour of Bergen in two sections. Lastly, before returning to your ship, there will be a guided walk through Bryggen, the Hanseatic Quarter, currently featured on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Hardanger Fjord is one of the favorites among the many Norwegian fjords. You’ll start by driving by the fortress of Bergenhus, King Håkon's Hall and the Rosenkrantz Tower. Pass by the buildings of the Hanseatic period and the fish market of Bergen. Continue to the Bjørnefjord, where you’ll have a short drive along the fjord with lovely views of islands and snowcapped mountains in the distance. Reach Hatvik, and cross the fjord by ferry to Venjaneset on the opposite side. Once at Mundheim, link up with the Hardangerfjord - the queen of the fjords. Near the village of Norheimsund, make a stop for lunch and continue to the Steinsdal waterfall. Here, the water falls away from the cliff enabling you to walk underneath without getting wet! Then, climb up the Tokagjel gorge via several tunnels and reach the mountain plateau Kvamskogen. Descend to the fjord once more before climbing up to Gulbotn, a recreation area with lit up skiing tracks. Lastly, come down to the Sørfjord, where you’ll find Oster Island, the largest island on the west coast. Note: This tour may operate in reverse order. less

On this exclusive tour, you’ll see some of the most beautiful sights of Norway. Drive past the Bryggen and the Hanseatic quarters before heading to the village of Voss. Here, you’ll board a train that will take you through beautiful agricultural areas before continuing the journey towards the mountain areas. At Myrdal station, you’ll change trains and board the Flåm Line that takes you down the mountain to the tiny village of Flåm. Flåm is situated by the Sognefjord – the King of the Fjords; the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. After a short break in Flåm, you’ll board your coach and drive to Gudvangen. The first part of the drive will be through the recently built tunnels and at the other side of the mountain lies the village of Gudvangen – the Bay of Gods. From here, the road takes you up the narrow Nærøydalen - translated as 'The Narrow Valley'. After maneuvering the many hairpin bends of the Stalheim Canyon, you’ll reach Stalheim Hotel where a fantastic view of the Nærøy Valley and a delicious lunch await. After lunch, the tour continues along Opheim Lake and further on to Tvinde Waterfalls, where a stop will be made. We drive through Voss village and via Dale back to Bergen. Your tour will begin with a drive along the German pier 'Bryggen', with its old wooden warehouses from the Hanseatic period and through the city and suburbs, leading to Troldhaugen, the composer, Edvard Grieg’s home for 22 years. Troldhaugen is beautifully situated by the peaceful Nordasvannet Lake. Grieg composed many of his most famous works at Troldhaugen, and he is also buried here with his wife Nina. Your next stop is at the Fantoft Stave Church. The old stave church, originally built in 1150, was rebuilt in 1992, just as it was before. On your way back, your coach will stop near the Fish and Flower Market in the center of the city for guests wanting to remain in town. Note: There is a 10-15 minute walk from the parking lot to the Edvard Grieg museum on gravel road. The footpaths in the garden are hilly. This tour may operate in reverse order. less
