Take a look at Bergen and its surrounding scenery from the water and by land. Bergen has a beautiful setting between seven mountains and the sea, sheltered by a myriad of islands from the North Sea. The Norwegian Kings resided here, and many historical events took place in this busy port, which in those days had no less than 27 churches and abbeys. Board your boat and continue between the scenic archipelagos of islands to Lysefjord. Here, travel by bus through the suburbs to Bryggen. Next, take a guided walk through the alleyways among the picturesque warehouses and waterfront before returning to your ship. Note: Wear comfortable walking shoes and a windproof jacket. This tour may operate in reverse order. At Bryggen, guests may choose to remain in the bus instead of taking the guided walk. less

Begin your tour by passing the Fortress of Bergenhus with the coronation hall - King Haakon's Hall. Also drive by the Fish Market, Bryggen and Gablehouses. Enjoy the green slope sights of the city and its characteristic mountains. Pass by the Grieghall, the concert hall of Bergen, as well as the suburbs with old well kept houses and gardens. Visit the Fantoft Stave Church, rebuilt after a fire in 1992. This church has been re-constructed using pinewood from the Sognefjord area, similar to the ones built in the Middle Ages. The building has an oriental look with dragonheads and serpents on the roofs to frighten away the evil spirits. Upon returning to the central areas via different route, head out to the peninsula of Nordnes which divides the harbour of Bergen in two sections. Lastly, before returning to your ship, there will be a guided walk through Bryggen, the Hanseatic Quarter, currently featured on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
