Begin with a memorable drive through historic downtown Charlottetown followed by a stop at the famous Prince Edward Island National Park, home of Cavendish and Anne of Green Gables homestead. Green Gables, part of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site, has become famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic tale of fiction, Anne of Green Gables. In real life, this farm was the home of David Jr. and Margaret MacNeill, who were cousins of Montgomery's grandfather. You’ll rekindle memories from the past as you stroll the site. En route, you’ll stop at the Prince Edward Island Preserves Company to sample homemade jams and visit the coastal fishing village of North Rustico, on the shore of Rustico Harbour, and learn about the history of the Prince Edward Island fishery. Then relax and enjoy the picturesque landscape on the drive back to the city as your tour winds to a close. Note: Access to Green Gables main floor is via wheelchair ramp. The second floor at Green Gables is not wheelchair accessible. Color photographs of the second floor rooms are available for those who cannot climb stairs. Led by a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, this tasting tour will provide you with a great opportunity to sample some of the Island's unique foods and beverages as well as gain an appreciation for the city's history. This walking tour of Downtown Charlottetown will include stops at various shops, restaurants and a brew pub during which you'll get a taste of some of the Island's fresh oysters, steamed mussels, olive oils, craft beer/spirits, hand-cut French fries, local charcuterie meats and more (on occasion there may be substitutions).

Charlottetown history will also come alive through the engaging stories of some of the city's most fascinating people, buildings and events. Known as the Birthplace of Confederation, Charlottetown hosted the 1864 Conference that began the process of establishing Canada as an independent nation. Banquets and private lunches played a huge role in the success of the discussions so food is something Islanders take great pride in. You won't be full by the end of the tour but will have a great sense of some of the Island's most unique tastes. There's no time to shop while on tour however, most of the locations provide discounts to participants who return after their tour ends.

Note: This tour involves approximately two miles of walking on pavement and city sidewalks with inclines and about 30 steps. It’s not recommended for guests with walking disabilities or on a wheelchair. The Gahan House Bewery (beer tasting) and the Olde Dublin Pub (mussel tasting) are not wheelchair accessible. Participants must be at least 19 years of age to sample alcoholic beverages. less
