This walking tour of the Dubrovnik Old Town includes an orientation tour of its highlights, starting from Pile Gate. Then take a drive through the chain of villages toward the picturesque Konavle Valley, to the typical country home of a local family that extends its welcome of local brandy and dried figs. For generations they have produced grape brandy, olive oil and wine in the traditional ways. Visiting their house and property will give you the unique opportunity to see and realize how people live and exist through the centuries in this area. After strolling through the wine cellars and olive press you’ll enter the large dining room where your gracious hosts will serve a light repast of local specialties including local cheese, smoked ham and homemade bread. After visiting Orasac Village you will continue towards the small town of Ston which is the "oyster capital" of Croatia. This little town is often called a smaller version of Dubrovnik. Especially notable are the magnificent 5 km long walls surrounding the town. Its construction started in 1317 and finished in the 16th century and it is one of the longest defensive walls in the world. Interesting are also the ancient salt pans that were in use during the Dubrovnik Republic; salt is still produced here. When you mention Ston in Croatia, people usually think of the oysters. Oyster farms are found all around the area. In Mali Ston, board a local boat where your host will welcome you on board and introduce you to oyster & mussel beds, their production, and you’ll even have the opportunity to taste fresh mussels and oysters. After this very unique experience step back ashore to enjoy sea food specialties served in a charming local tavern. After, return to Dubrovnik, where your guide will show you the highlights of the Old Town, followed by free time for further independent exploration.
