After your tender drops you off at the port of Athinios, you’ll drive to Pyrgos village, one of the oldest settlements and the highest village on the island. Admire the beautiful old houses and the Venetian fortress crowned by several churches. From Pyrgos Square the road runs uphill to the Monastery of the Prophet Elijah, the highest point of the island. From here, the views out over the caldera are majestic. Leaving Pyrgos you head to the northern end of Santorini to the village of Oia, which offers magnificent views of the caldera and the rest of the other islands. With its cobblestone streets, beautiful old mansions and houses perched on the cliffside, you’ll realize why the traditional Cycladic architecture is so well known. Here you’ll have free time to stroll around the narrow streets with the old beautiful houses and the tiny picturesque shops. Then, leaving the village of Oia, make your way to one of Santorini’s most renowned Greek tavernas where you’ll enjoy dinner, music and dances. Experience a typical Greek fiesta dancing to 'Zorba the Greek' and breaking plates while the bouzouki plays its solo. After a buffet-style dinner, you’ll continue to Fira town, the picturesque capital of the island built on the rim of the caldera wall. Enjoy the town at leisure before returning to your ship. Note: Tour participation is limited. Tour involves walking for approximately ½ mile on level, some steps and cobblestone streets. Amount of walking and exertion during free time is up to you. Board your local boat (caique) from the old port of Santorini for a 15-minute trip up to Nea Kameni. En route, admire the volcanic shores with the peculiar shape formations of the black volcanic rocks and the white pumice. After disembarking, a steep and fast-paced 30-minute (3/4-mile) hike on rocky and gravel terrain takes you to the crater of the still active volcano. During your walk up an ascending path, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the lava fragments and the volcanic rock formations. Once you’ve reached the crater you’ll have time to relax and enjoy the view of Santorini Island and the amazing cliffs of the caldera. Then you start your descent back to the boat. Finally you’ll sail towards the thermal springs of Palea Kameni, with its green sulfur warm waters and temperatures that reach 37° C (98° F). Here you’ll have the opportunity to jump off the boat and swim to the springs (weather permitting). Note: The volcano’s hiking area is a very steep lava field with loose rock and uneven terrain. There is no shade; we recommend that you wear appropriate sun protection and footwear. If you wish to swim, please bring your swimsuit, a towel and a change of clothes. The changing facilities on the boat are limited. You must be a strong swimmer as the waters are deep and the current is strong. There are no lifeguards on the boat or the island. The sulfur water may stain your clothes. The sea water is cold; however the springs are very warm. Tour participation is limited. Temperatures can reach extreme highs during summer months; we recommend that you drink a lot of water and use suitable sun protection. This tour ends at the tender pier and you have a choice of returning to your ship or purchasing a cable car ticket to get to Fira town. less

From here, you’ll continue to Oia situated on top of an impressive cliff, offering unrivaled spectacular views over the Aegean. This traditional village offers charming houses and quaint narrow streets, blue domed churches, sun-bathed verandas and, plenty of shops, taverns and cafes. Many artists have fallen in love with this idyllic setting and their presence is obvious in the many art galleries. Leaving the port of Athinios you’ll head to the picturesque town of Oia. Built high up on the ridge of red rocks, it offers breathtaking views of the blue Aegean and the caldera below. You’ll leave your coach for a stroll around the narrow streets filled with quaint shops and cafes. In one of the famous Oia restaurants you’ll have the opportunity to taste Santorini mezes (Greek snack) along with a glass of local wine while enjoying the magnificent views of the Caldera. The tour concludes at the hilltop village of Fira, where you'll have the option of returning directly to the ship or remaining in town to shop or explore independently. From Fira, join the cable car (ticket provided) and descend independently to the old port. Note: Tour involves walking for approximately 1/4 mile on mostly level ground, some steps and cobblestone streets. Amount of walking and exertion during free time is up to you. Arriving at Fira, Santorini's capital, you'll walk along the narrow cobblestone streets to the Prehistoric Museum. The museum houses findings from various excavations all over the island but especially ones from the excavations at Akrotiri. Continue to the picturesque town of Oia; once a major fishing harbor it is now the calmest place on the island. Built high up on the ridge of red rocks it offers breathtaking views of the blue Aegean. Following your visit to Oia, you'll proceed to the famous village of Imerovigli, where at a local restaurant you’ll enjoy a Greek style dinner while looking at breathtaking views of the caldera and the volcano. You’ll conclude at the hilltop village of Fira, where you'll have the option of returning directly to your ship or remaining in town to shop or explore independently. From Fira, join the cable car and descend independently to the old port (your cable car ticket will be provided). After tendering to the port of Athinios, you’ll board a bus which will transfer you to the location of the 4x4 vehicles to start your adventure. Depart for Akrotiri, located on the southern end of the island where you’ll see a lunar landscape created by the last eruption of the volcano. You’ll then drive to Vlihada beach, where you’ll have a short break to jump in the cool waters of the Aegean Sea, during the hot summer months or to simply enjoy the views. The natural beauty of this secluded beach, framed by pumice stone hills, will enchant you. Next destination is the traditional village of Pyrgos and the mountain of Profitis Elias, the highest of the island (550 m) with an incredible panoramic view of Santorini. Then you’ll continue with an off-road drive between Kamari and Monolithos until reaching Galini Restaurant, where you’ll have the chance to enjoy a typical Greek snack by the sea. Your final destination is the capital of the island, Fira. Here you’ll have free time to stroll through the city and admire the beautiful views of the caldera before taking the cable car down to the port of Fira to return by tender to the ship. Note: Vehicles are manual transmission and self-driven. Driver must be experienced with manual transmission and be able to start the vehicle on an incline or off road situation. There is no narration while driving; your leader/guide will give explanations at the different stops. If you would like a personal driver for the vehicle, please visit the Shore Excursion Desk on board to make arrangements for an additional cost. Drivers must be at least 21 years old and must provide a valid driver’s license. Four persons can be accommodated per vehicle, but we recommend two persons per vehicle, as the back seats are not comfortable for some adults. If you plan to swim at the beach, please remember to wear your swimsuit, and bring a towel and sun protection. No changing facilities or showers are available. Following a short transfer by tender boat from your ship to the port of Athinios, you'll board the awaiting motorcoach that will transfer you to Perivolos Beach, located on the southern side of the island. On arrival at the beach, you'll have the opportunity to swim in the crystal waters of the Aegean Sea, relax under the always shining Greek sun or even entertain yourself with the variety of watersports (not included) available on the beach by local concessionaires. After a day of relaxation your coach returns you to the capital of the island, Fira where you’ll have free time to stroll through the city and admire the beautiful views of the caldera before taking the cable car down to the port to return by tender to your ship.
