Explore the narrow cobbled lanes and charming alleyways of the lower city on a walking tour. Then ride the funicular to the upper city for a stately tour in a horse and carriage. Place Royale, the beautifully restored square in the heart of the Lower Town features superb examples of the 17th and 18th century stone architecture that characterizes the city. The site of the Sieur de Champlain's first settlement, the square is home to Notre Dame des Victoires, the oldest stone church still standing in North America. Petit Champlain Street, the pedestrian-only street adjacent to the Place Royale, features boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants housed in 17th and 18th century buildings. Strolling musicians, jugglers and other street performers abound. Board the funicular for the short ride to the historic, walled Upper Town, home to Dufferin Terrace and Chateau Frontenac. Dufferin Terrace, Quebec's grand promenade, affords panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River, the town of Levis on the opposite bank, the Ile d'Orleans, and the Laurentian Mountains. Chateau Frontenac, Quebec's most recognizable landmark, is a palatial hotel, a green-turreted castle built in 1893 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and MacKenzie King met here to discuss strategy during World War II. Board your elegant carriage by the Chateau Frontenac and ride through the historic streets of the Upper Town for a 40 minute ride. Note: Tour involves approximately 2 hours of slow walking and standing on cobblestone streets or uneven pavement for approximately 1 1/2 miles. less

If you’re interested in religious history, or just in the mood for a scenic leisurely drive along the St. Lawrence River, you won’t want to miss this trip to the world-renowned shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupre. With over one-and-a-half million visitors and pilgrims making their way to the shrine each year, Ste. Anne has become one of the most important Catholic sites in North America. After a narration by your guide en route, you’ll be able to independently enjoy the lovely grounds and major sites of Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Built in medieval style, the most prominent structure is the Basilica. The impressive cross-shaped building is covered with granite and lit by over 200 stained glass windows. The Scala Santa, built in 1891, contains a replica of the Holy Stairs which Christ climbed before being sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. The Memorial Chapel was built to commemorate the third church constructed on the site. Departing Ste. Anne, a stop will be made at the spectacular Montmorency Falls. Cascading down a 272-foot (83 meter) cliff, Montmorency is one-and-a-half times as high as Niagara Falls. At the Albert Gilles Copper Art Museum, be seduced by the art form of repousse, masterfully interpreted by the craftsman Albert Gilles whose talent served prestigious people like Pope Pius XII and Walt Disney. Also admire the 'Life of Christ' in 50 hand-wrought silver panels (15 years of labor). His work can be found in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre Basilica as well as in many churches throughout the north. Note: Walking at the different stops is mostly on level ground, with some cobblestone streets. Access to Montmorency Falls is possible for guests with walking limitations or in wheelchair. There are 20 steps to reach the basilica (ramp available), 20 steps at the memorial chapel and 85 steps at the Scala Santa. less
