There's a seat for you on an intricately painted, four-wheel-drive, open-air ex-Army truck! Picture this - no windows, no aisles, no glass barriers and no enclosed seating. This fun-filled shore excursion begins with a short drive through Dominica's capital, Roseau, to the historical site of Morne Bruce and the Botanical Gardens for a close-up encounter with the national parrot, the Sisserou. Feel the force of nature as you wind through the mountains to the renowned Sulphur Springs to view remnants of the island's volcanic activity. Hop back on, and enjoy a ride into the interior to the Ti Tou Gorge, to discover a crevice in the mountain where hot and cold streams intermingle into a natural, plunging rock pool for an exhilarating swim. If you are really adventurous, swim between the mountains of the gorge to discover a spectacular view of a crystal-clear waterfall. Local refreshments and rum punch will be served. Note: Participants must be in good health. Not recommended for pregnant women or people with back and neck problems. less

View the city of Roseau from a 400-feet elevation before continuing to the Botanical Gardens for a view of some of the world’s most exotic trees and rare birds, the Sisserou and Jaco parrots, on this cruise shore excursion. Move on to the village of Trafalgar and to the Trafalgar Falls, one of Dominica’s most fascinating and picturesque areas. You will have a unique view of the falls, as it cascades side by side out of deep gorges. Your guide will lead you on a 10-minute trek to the viewing platform of these majestic waterfalls. Next, pass through the city of Roseau, traveling up the Springfield Valley to the Trois Pitons National Park. You will soon arrive at the Emerald Pool for a 15-minute trek through the rainforest to the 40-foot cascading waterfall, the Emerald Pool. Start the excursion with an easy walk to the well-known Emerald Pool at the Morn Trois Pitons National Park. This is truly a secluded nature experience where you will find yourself walking on a small path towards the first 82-foot high waterfall. Although the hike takes only 15 minutes, the site will make you feel like you are in the middle of an untouched rainforest. You can choose to make an adventurous climb to the second white sulphur waterfall, whose water has been colored from the volcanic activities of the island. Twin Falls provide excellent opportunities for bathing in the natural pools created by the hands of time. Note: Participants must be in good health. Wear your bathing suit and bring a towel. less

Get to know unspoiled Dominica on this exciting journey as you discover not one, but two impressive waterfalls and the famous Sulphur Springs. Board your air-conditioned transportation at the pier and head north along the west coast before turning east on the Imperial Road passing fern-covered hillsides. Enjoy the clear view of citrus crops, banana plantations, and beautiful flowers along the winding road up to Pond Case and into the Morne Trois Piton National Park. Disembark your bus for a 20-minute hike along a relatively flat but uneven trail to visit the beautiful 80-foot Twin Falls. You’ll spend approximately thirty minutes at the Twin Falls enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Take an optional refreshing dip in the cool mountain water. Re-board your transportation and drive back along the Layou Valley road toward Roseau. Drive through Independence Street to Chez Ophelia, a homey bed and breakfast nestled on the tranquil mountainside, for a refreshing drink and restroom break. Then proceed to the village of Wotton Waven to visit the Sulphur springs. When active, these springs come alive in a spectacular bubbling motion, spewing volcanic hot water in the air. See the water bubbling and boiling out of the ground. After approximately 20 minutes at the hot springs, proceed to Trafalgar Falls. Upon arrival at the base, take a 5 minute walk up the tarish-colored trail until you arrive at the viewing platform above the river. Enjoy the beauty of the falls cascading into a deep pool surrounded by lush green ferns. Before returning to your ship, you will travel through the Botanical Gardens and unto Morne Bruce for a photo stop above the entire town of Roseau. Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age and in good physical condtion. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. Trails to the Spanny Falls may be slippery when wet and are uneven at some points. Access to the second higher falls at the Spanny Twin Falls is via a 45 degree incline and can only be accessed by the most active and physically fit. Bring along a bottle of drinking water. Tour may be done in reverse. less

Escape the hustle, avoid the sites congestion and experience a wonderful scenic tour of the capital city, complimented with a refreshing fruit- in season juice at the beautiful Old Mill Cultural Center before the end of the tour. A delightful short visit at the cozy museum featuring important aspects of Dominica's heritage is optional. Board your bus and depart the pier. Capture a face view of the historic 16th century Old Market Plaza about one-half block from the cruise pier. You turn south unto Church Street. View two of the largest and oldest 18th.century churches on the Island. You will drive up to Morne Bruce. Morne Bruce is an ideal vantage point from which to get a panoramic view of the entire town of Roseau and the Botanical Gardens. A five minute drive from Morne Bruce will take you to the Botanical Gardens, an attractive 40 acre expansion adorned with exotic plants from every part of the tropical world. Experience a short and interesting tour in a relaxing atmosphere at the Botanical Gardens before you drive up to the community of St. Aroment. Beautiful flora and interesting French architectural designs accentuate the outlook of the prestigious community. Enjoy the inside view as you drive through St. Aroment. Leaving St. Aroment along the main coastal road you will pass along Woodbridge Bay unto Fond Cole before entering Canefield, home of one of our two airports. Canefield is also the main industrial site on the island. The tour continues with a drive through Canefield East from which you will get a panoramic view of the entire Canefield industrial site and airport, before it climaxes at the Old Mill Cultural Center for drinks and convenience. The Old Mill Cultural Center is one of Dominica's historic landmarks and was the island's first sugarcane processing mill and rum distillery. Today, it's a place to learn about Dominica's traditions. An approximate fifteen-minute hike through the rainforest will take you to the beautiful Twin Falls. For the more adventurous, you can climb a small hill to reach the second white sulphur waterfall, said to be good for your skin. At the Twin Falls you can take a dip in the waterfall pools in a very pristine and beautiful surrounding. Although a relatively short walk, you’ll really feel as if you’re in the depths of the Dominican Rainforest. From here, continue to the Mero Beach, driving through the beautiful Layou Valley. The color of the sand is black, a sign of the volcanic origin of the island. Here you can relax, tan or take a refreshing bath. Note: Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. less

A short 15 minute drive south of Roseau takes you through the picturesque village of Pointe Michel to the Irie Safari's watersports facility at Champagne. Champagne is Dominica's premier diving and snorkeling site. Underwater geothermal springs vent gasses in the form of thousands of warm bubbles giving you a feeling of swimming through a giant glass of Champagne. The reef here is quite spectacular where you can expect to see a myriad of sea life including sponges, lobster, parrot fish and a resident population of Hawksbill turtles. Upon arrival at the watersports center, you’ll be outfitted with snorkeling gear and given an orientation. The tour of the reef is led by a professional PADI certified "Dive master" who will instruct you on the correct use of your gear and brief you on what you are likely to see and experience once in the water. After your tour you can enjoy the comfort and convenience of the center with showers, changing rooms, refreshments, gift shop and a sundeck overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The course ends with a zip line that takes you across Dominica’s longest and largest river - the Layou River. The scenery from this aerial point is stunning and the experience is unforgettable. Don’t miss this unusual opportunity to experience a waterfall without the need of heavy walking. A mere 30 yards flat walk will take you to a viewpoint where you can see the picturesque Hibiscus falls tucked away in rainforest greenery. A short walk (less than 5 minutes) will take you to the pool of the waterfall where you can take a quick dip in the refreshing pool. We will start with a cultural drive through the Capital of Roseau to the Morne Bruce viewpoint. This point is excellent for photos showing where the capital meets the Caribbean Sea. Next stop will be the Botanical Gardens where you will be able to see the famous and endangered Sissereau and Jaco parrots in protective cages along with many large trees, exotic flowers and tropical plants. From here we continue towards the interior of Dominica. The drive will make you understand why Dominica is rightfully called the Nature Island of the Caribbean. You will pass a tropical rainforest and many plantations with various fruit trees such as mango, banana, avocado and cacao to name a few. We will make a stop at the Hibiscus Falls. 30 yards of easy walking will take you to the viewpoint of this waterfall. Here you can take photos and enjoy the surroundings while enjoying a taste of a local Dominican mix of seasonal fruits along with a complimentary rum punch or fruit juice. You can take a short walk town to the pool for a quick dip in the refreshing waterfall. You can lounge in the shade for a few minutes on the handmade bamboo benches, inhaling the fresh cool mountain breeze then cap off your experience with some healthy, freshly cut coconut water. Then, travel to Laudat Village, the eco-tourism center of Dominica that boasts six natural sites.
