After disembarking, enjoy a drive through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest combined-use rail/highway tunnel in the United States. At 2.5 miles, this is the Whittier's only overland link to the rest of Alaska. The first stop on your excursion enroute to Anchorage is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Here you'll see orphaned and injured moose, bears, musk oxen, wolves, and more. The gift shop houses a unique collection of items, many made by local artisans. Next, continue north on the Seward Highway towards Girdwood, Alaska. This quaint ski town houses Alaska's largest winter recreation area, Alyeska Resort. Take the resort's comfortable 60-person tram up to the 2,500-foot level of Mt. Alyeska for views of Turnagain Arm and the surrounding valley. You'll have free time to enjoy lunch on your own at one of the resort's restaurants or snack bars. Once the snow is gone, short hikes on the Winter Creek trail from the base of the tram, or from the top of the tram terminal are also possible. After exploring the resort, your driver-guide will provide commentary on the history of Turnagain Arm and Anchorage during the one-hour drive to the Anchorage airport, and an additional drop-off at the downtown Hospitality Center. less

After disembarking, enjoy a drive through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest combined-use rail/highway tunnel in the United States. At 2.5 miles, this tunnel is Whittier's only overland link to the rest of Alaska. Emerging into Portage Valley on the other side of the tunnel, you'll pass scenic Portage Lake and several hanging glaciers. During the drive north to Anchorage, watch for wildlife along the highway and in Turnagain Arm, home to some of the largest tidal fluctuations in North America. Along this National Scenic Byway, your driver/guide will provide commentary and history of Turnagain Arm and Anchorage. Upon arrival in Anchorage, you'll be taken to the Hospitality Center in downtown Anchorage. Use this as your base for exploration as you explore the area's many restaurants, souvenir shops, museums, and other attractions. Meet back at the Hospitality Center for a return coach to Whittier, again passing along Turnagain Arm on the Seward Highway. less

After disembarking, enjoy a drive through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest combined-use rail/highway tunnel in the United States. At 2.5 miles, this is Whittier's only overland link to the rest of Alaska. On the other side of the tunnel is Portage Lake, where only the mv Ptarmigan can cruise. Get as close as 300 yards from the glacier for stunning photo opportunities from mv Ptarmigan. Knowledgeable US Forest Service naturalists narrate this tour, and are available to answer your questions. After the one hour cruise, your tour will next stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Here you'll see orphaned and injured moose, bears, musk oxen, wolves, and more. The gift shop houses a unique collection of items, many made by local artisans. After exploring the Center, your driver-guide will provide commentary on the history of Turnagain Arm and Anchorage during the one hour drive to the Anchorage airport, and an additional drop-off at the downtown Hospitality Center. less
