Cruise to Skagway

In a single year from 1896 to 1897, this remote town along the Inside Passage grew from a few tents to a city of 20,000 gold seekers. Today, travelers come in search of other riches – to experience yesteryear along Skagway’s charming boardwalk lined with buildings that replicate those Gold Rush days.

Skagway Highlights

  • Explore the White Pass, used by gold mining prospectors to reach the interior lakes area from the coastal port of Skagway. Today, the narrow railway pass goes through tunnels and scenic vistas giving its travelers a breathtaking view of the Alaska wilderness.
  • Enjoy some locally caught Alaskan Salmon at the town's mouth-watering salmon bake on your Alaska cruise vacation. This gastronomical delight is baked over an open alder wood fire and leaves nothing for your taste buds to desire.
  • The Skagway historic district is on the National Registry of Historic Places and still holds almost 100 buildings from the gold rush era. Walk the streets of this National Park and into the salons and shops where you'll feel like you've traveled a century in the past to an Alaskan frontier town.
  • Near the town of Skagway is the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Home to the world's largest gathering of bald eagles, its also inhabited by moose, bears, wolves, and other animals.
