Prehistoric Temples & Views

The islands of Malta are home to eleven prehistoric monuments, seven of which comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today you'll visit the Temples of Tarxien and Hagar Quim and the caves of Ghar Dalam where you'll discover Malta's prehistoric past. A scenic drive takes you to to Tarxien where you'll visit the Tarxien Temples. They are renowned for the detail of their carvings, which include domestic animals carved in relief, altars, and screens decorated with spiral designs and other patterns.

Head to the southern part of the island to see some of the most unique prehistoric monuments in the world, at the temple of Hagar Quim. Learn about Malta's origins when you visit the underground caves in Ghar Dalam. Here, the first traces of life on the island date back 180,000 years. Fossilized remains of animals found here, date back to the last glacial period. Before returning to Valetta, you'll make a short stop for photos at the colorful fishing village of Marsaxlokk.
