Stroll along the cobbled streets of a replica 16th-century Mediterranean village and enjoy a leisurely horseback ride through an exclusive seaside resort. Although Altos de Chavon looks centuries old, the village is a total re-creation that first opened in 1982. Even so, the details and meticulous craftsmanship lend it an Old World ambiance. While there, you can expect to see a Grecian-style amphitheater, the stone St. Stanislaus Church and thousands of real artifacts in the village’s Archaeological Regional Museum. The views of the winding Chavon River below will be spectacular. For a different perspective of the countryside, you will follow a well-manicured trail through the Casa de Campo resort on horseback. Along the way, you will pass beautiful, privately owned villas and several extraordinary golf courses. The famed Pete Dye-designed Teeth of the Dog course is ranked among the world’s best.
