This amazing 2-day adventure fully showcases the mesmerizing sights and extraordinary heritage of Israel. The memories of your time spent immersing yourself in the cultural environment and sounds of this captivating land will no doubt remain with you long after you have left its borders. Explore the heart of the Holy Land by visiting many of the most hallowed religious areas, including the Old City of Jerusalem, Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, the Dead Sea and Nazareth.

This overnight program is conducted in a minibus holding no more than 10 guests and a driver and guide in each vehicle.

    DAY 1
Departing the port of Ashdod, you will have a scenic drive to Jerusalem crossing Israel’s low land and up the Judean Mountains. The capital of Israel, Jerusalem is famous for its timeless beauty and was once considered the center of the world. Note: Eat a hearty breakfast on board before departing.

Your visit to Jerusalem will start with a stop at Mount Scopus. From this vantage point high above the city, you will have the opportunity to see the breathtaking view of the entire city spread out in front of you.

Next you will visit the Garden of Gethsemane. According to the gospels, it was here in these olive groves that Jesus and his disciples prayed together on the night before he was arrested. You will also have time to visit the Church of the Agony, also Known as the Church of All Nations, which displays a mosaic depicting the betrayal of Jesus by Judas.

After a short drive you’ll start your voyage back in history. With your guide you will now start your walk through the Old City via the Dung Gate. You will visit the Western Wall which early European visitors nicknamed the "Wailing Wall" as it where Jews gathered to mourn the destruction of their temple by the Romans in 70AD. Revered as the sole remnant of the 2nd Temple, the massive Western Wall is actually part of the Temple Mount foundation erected by Herod the Great. The Wall is the most sacred Jewish shrine in world.

Coming out of the Jewish Quarter and crossing the Muslim Quarter you will follow part of the route of the Via Dolorosa (The Way of Cross). This ancient cobbled road runs between the supposed location of Jesus' trail by Pontius Pilate and the site of his crucifixion. This route will lead you to the Hill of Golgotha and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The church is believed to enshrine the sites of Christ's crucifixion, entombment and resurrection.

The 12th century church is shared by several Christian denominations. Steep steps lead to the second level where a shrine is situated in Calvary or Golgotha. Explore this huge church and experience the unique atmosphere of this place created by pilgrims from all over the world. Note: expect crowds and possible delays here.

Re-join your minibus at the Jaffa Gate and you will be driven to your lunch venue.

After lunch, you’ll head south through the Judean Hills to the city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, located on the desert rim. Here you will visit the Church of the Nativity with a local guide. Built by the Roman Emperor Constantine in 339AD, this church is a UNESCO world heritage site and is built above a cave where the birth of Jesus is believed to have taken place. It is an important place of pilgrimage in the Christian faith. After your visit you will be given some time to browse through the various craft shops that can be found in this area.

Back on your minibus you will drive back to Jerusalem for a panoramic drive through the city. You will pass by some important landmarks including the Hebrew University, the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament), the State Supreme High Court and the illuminated Old City walls- definitely an unforgettable site.

Check in to your hotel where the remainder of the evening is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 2
After a enjoying an Israeli buffet breakfast at your hotel, check out and proceed across the Judean Desert to one of the wonders off the world, the Dead Sea.

At more than 400m (1280 feet) below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. The mineral laden water is undrinkable and supports no life. You will visit a leading resort on its shore and experience a classic moment for travelers to the Holy Land: a “Floating Experience”. The saltwater keeps even non-swimmers afloat.

Situated on the northern part of the Dead Sea, not far from Jericho, this beach offers the ultimate opportunity, to experience floating in the salty water along with using the famous mineral mud that you can find naturally on the sea floor.
After leaving the Dead Sea, drive along the Jordan Valley to your lunch venue located in a restaurant by the Sea of Galilee.

After lunch, visit Yardenit, the baptismal site on the banks of the Jordan River. Here a short visit will be made to the Baptism site and the many souvenir stalls.

Next, enjoy a scenic drive from the Sea of Galilee up to the Lower Galilee Hills. Pass the Village of Canna, where Jesus is believed to have performed his first miracle, changing water into wine at the wedding. Finally, you will reach Nazareth - the childhood home of Jesus Christ.

Visit the Church of Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph, before re-joining your minibus for the drive to the port of Haifa where you will re-embark the ship.

Take in the landmarks of Port Elizabeth from the comfort of your coach, leaving you with a wonderful impression of South Africa’s beloved Friendly City.

At the entrance to the harbor, note the soaring Campanile, which was erected in 1923 and holds a carillon of 23 bells in honor of the area’s first British settlers. Continuing along the scenic shore, you’ll pass the lovely suburb of Summerstrand, drive through the campus of the Nelson Mandela University and perhaps stop at Shark Rock Pier to take in panoramic views of the city.

Pausing for photos whenever possible, see the beautiful Victorian Gothic Main Library, the Feather Market, constructed during the ostrich feather boom, and Dias Cross, a tribute to Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias, who erected a cross nearby after discovering Algoa Bay in 1488. At the Donkin Reserve park, you’ll observe a stone pyramid dedicated to Elizabeth Donkin, after whom the city was named in the 1820s. Admire well-preserved Fort Frederick and two sporting venues, Saint George’s Park Cricket Ground, which is South Africa’s oldest bowling green, and the more modern Nelson Mandela Stadium, all testament to Port Elizabeth’s dynamic role in South Africa’s history.

Explore the beauty and mystery of Egypt’s ancient temples and tombs during this memorable journey to Luxor. Along the way, you will visit the Karnak, Luxor and Hatshepsut Temples, Colossi of Memnon, and the Valley of the Kings.

Note: Due to the amount of walking over uneven terrain and steps at the tombs, this program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulty or those who utilize a wheelchair, walker or scooter.

    Day 1
Upon disembarking the ship in Safaga, you will be met and depart for the 3.5-hour drive to Luxor. Upon arrival a stop will be made for lunch after which you will visit the Karnak Temple. Located about two miles north of the Luxor Temple, but connected to it by an impressive avenue of sphinxes, the Karnak Temple was the most important sanctuary of ancient Egypt, and the heart of the cult of the god Amon. Each pharaoh added his own contribution to the temple over the ensuing 2,000 years.

The Ptolemies erected the massive first pylon you will see. Past the second pylon, which is guarded by a pair of huge statues of Ramses II, you will find the great hypo-style hall, the largest hall of any temple in the world. It spans 50,000 square feet and contains 134 enormous columns. You may notice that some of the columns still have traces of the brilliant paint that originally covered them.

The third pylon leads to the center court, and past the fourth pylon is the 97-foot-high obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut, carved from a solid piece of pink granite. As you pass through successive pylons and courts, you will journey back in time until you reach the oldest part of the temple, built by the pharaohs of the middle kingdom around 2000 B.C.

At the south end of the temple, you will find the sacred lake where ceremonial boats took part in the worship of Amon. Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside the Karnak Temple free of charge.

Next, you will tour the renowned Luxor Temple, which was originally built during the reign of Amenophis the III and then expanded by Ramses II, who added a statue of himself and two obelisks. Today, only one of the statues remains at the Luxor Temple; Mohamed Ali gave the other one to Louis Philippe in 1831 and it is displayed at the Concorde in Paris.

After Alexander the Great rebuilt the sanctuary in the 4th century B.C., the Romans subsequently rebuilt portions of it, and then the Muslims built a mosque in the temple. Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside the Luxor Temple.

Following your visit to the Luxor Temple, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in.

In the evening, you will depart for a spectacular sound and light show at the Karnak Temple. It’s an amazing performance that traces the history of Thebes, including the lives of the pharaohs who built the necropolis. Afterwards, you will return to your hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.

    Please note:
Dinner will be served at the hotel from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Guests attending the Sound and Light Show will dine following the show.

    Day 2
Following a buffet breakfast, you will cross over the Nile to the West Bank to visit the Valley of the Kings, hidden in the foothills of the Gourma Mountains. More than 60 tombs of pharaohs and noblemen have been excavated in this valley. The kings’ formal names and titles are inscribed in their tombs, along with their images and statues. Between the 18th and 20th dynasties, the kings abandoned the Memphis area and built their tombs in Thebes. During your time here, you will receive a ticket valid for entry to up to three tombs of your choice. Cameras may now be used inside the tombs for a fee and can be paid directly to the guide.

    NOTE:
there are a series of steps (up to approximately 20 steps per chamber) to go down into the various tombs and the ground surrounding the tombs is uneven and dusty. It is also extremely hot here.

Continuing, enjoy a photo stop at the Hatshepsut Temple, whose unique design features a series of grand terraces extending up a cliff with rows of square granite columns blending in with the mountainside. From here you will proceed for a visit to Medinet Habu. Built by Ramses III, this temple is among the most interesting of the funerary chapels on the West Bank. The reliefs on both sides of the doorway depict battle scenes of Ramses III.

After your visit to Medinet Habu, a photo stop will be made at the Colossi of Memnon. This structure was originally built as a mortuary temple in Thebes and guarded by two gigantic statues on the outer gates. All that remains today are the 75-foot-high, 1,000-ton statues of Amenhotep III. Though damaged by nature and ancient tourists, the statues are still impressive nonetheless. Cameras and video cameras are permitted free of charge.

Enjoy a buffet lunch back at your hotel before you depart for the 3.5-hour drive back to Safaga to re-embark the ship.

Enjoy a beautiful scenic drive from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town on your 3-night Garden Route Overland.
The Garden Route covers diverse vegetation and wildlife, and abundance of lagoons, lakes, mountains, forests, and beaches along its winding roads.

On your trip you will visit the well-known Tsitsikamma National Park, Knysna Featherbed Nature Reserve, Cango Caves an Ostrich Farm and get a glimpse into the winelands.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1
Disembark your ship in Port Elizabeth and depart for the lagoon side town of Knysna. En-route to Knysna, stop over and visit Tsitsikamma National Park for spectacular scenery and photographic opportunities.

Continue your scenic drive to Knysna stopping for lunch at a local restaurant and then proceed to Bloukrans Bridge, the world’s highest commercial bungee bridge for a brief photo stop.

Your final stop will be Knysna which lies on a lagoon, the mouth of which is guarded by two promontories known as the “Knysna Heads”. The origins of the town name are probably from the Hottentot words 'Xthuys Xna', which mean 'place where the wood is'. An entire industry sprang up around the beautiful yellowwood trees in the surrounding Tsitsikamma Forest, until South Africa's national tree became an endangered species.

Arrive at your hotel - Protea Hotel Knysna Quays – and check-in. Located on the banks of the famous Knysna Lagoon and facing the sea through the Knysna Heads, this exciting hotel development is also an integral part of the vibrant Knysna Quays Waterfront. Knysna Quays Waterfront is adjacent to the Knysna Quays Hotel offering endless dining and shopping opportunities.

Spend the afternoon at leisure to enjoy your room or explore your surroundings.

In the evening, gather at the main reception area and embark on a short walk to the Knysna Quays Waterfront where a lovely dinner awaits at the Drydock Restaurant’s al Fresco terrace, situated on the water’s edge.

    DAY 2
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and proceed with check-out formalities.

Continue to Knysna Featherbed and board a ferry for your trip to the Featherbed Nature Reserve located on the Western Head.

On arrival at the reserve, board a 4x4 vehicle and trailer for a drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints. Your tour includes a specialist guide giving information on history, fauna and flora. There is an optional guided 2.2km walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves. Thereafter enjoy lunch at an outdoor restaurant setting under a canopy of Milkwood trees.

After an exciting visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, travel to Oudtshoorn with scenic stops along the way.

Oudtshoorn, is known as the "Feather Capital of the world" because of its large ostrich industry in the area.

This town, with its wide-open spaces and broad streets is the capital of the Klein Karoo. It spreads along both banks of the Grobbelaars River, which is a tributary of the Oliphant's River. Its fertile valleys are encompassed by the Swartberg Mountains to the north; and the Outeniqua Mountains to the south. Warm, dry summers and sunny winter days make it the ideal breeding ground for the most majestic of flightless birds - synonymous with Oudtshoorn - the ostrich.

Continue your journey with a visit to the Cango Caves - the only show cave in Africa. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well-known Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations. Here you will embark on a 1-hour standard tour of the Cango Caves.

After your visit at the caves, proceed to the Queens Hotel for check-in. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure with some time to freshen up prior to dinner. Situated next to the world-famous ostrich museum, the colonial style Queens Hotel is in close proximity to a multitude of restaurants, curio and coffee shops. All rooms are air-conditioned – and the hotel also has a swimming pool, which offers respite from the dry heat of the Little Karoo.

Enjoy a relaxing dinner at the hotel’s restaurant before retiring for the evening.

    NOTE:
The temperature inside the caves is warm and humid, so light clothing and comfortable footwear are recommended.

    DAY 3
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, proceed with check-out formalities.

After breakfast, check-out and travel to Safari Ostrich Farm and experience a guided tour of the farm, which traces this unique bird's development. The tour starts in the breeding camp, with a nest of ostrich eggs, where the first stage of the ostrich life cycle is explained. Visitors will get the opportunity to test the strength of the eggs by standing on them - a great photo opportunity. During the breeding season visitors get to see ostrich eggs hatching in the incubator rooms.

After your visit at the Ostrich Farm, continue your journey to Cape Town. Travel along the N2 Road and then over the Tradouw Pass to Swellendam where you will enjoy a lovely lunch.

Continue along the N2 Road over the scenic Sir Lowry’s Pass passing through the suburb of Somerset West. Travel to Spier Wine Estate with spectacular views of the winelands.

Spier, near Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Spier wines are among the most awarded in the country. The Spier Hotel features village-style buildings, lush green lawns and spacious rooms situated next to the calming Eerste River. The rooms are clustered around six courtyards, with each courtyard boasting its own swimming pool. The design is reminiscent of the Bo-Kaap or Mediterranean villages where pedestrians have right of way.

After check-in, you will be shown to your rooms with some time at own leisure to explore the wine farm, you can even go for a wine tasting or relax at the hotel’s gardens or pool.

Enjoy a delicious dinner where you will have the opportunity to savor some of South Africa’s finest wines produced in the winelands.

    DAY 4
After breakfast and check out, meet your guide and transfer to the Cape Town International Airport for a flight to Durban.

On arrival in Durban, you are met by a local English-speaking tour guide who will accompany you on a transfer to the pier where you will re-embark the ship.

Enjoy meeting the locals and being entertained by whimsical lemurs on this delightful tour to nearby Nosy Komba.

Board your local boat from the ship's gangway and cruise across the east coast of Nosy Be to Nosy Komba, passing the verdant Lokobe evergreen forest along the way. Reaching the fishing village of Ampangoriana, you will tender ashore (please note it is a "wet" landing) and then have a bit of time to mingle with the locals and browse for souvenirs. Approximately 500 yards from the village is the Black Lemur Sanctuary, home to Madagascar's most famous residents, the black lemurs. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to observe these lively creatures as they leap from tree to tree. The black lemurs are the males and the brown lemurs the females. Although these animals live in the wild, they are tame enough to be fed with bananas and their capricious behavior will no doubt be fun to watch.

Leaving the sanctuary, you will walk to a nearby snack bar where you will be treated to a light snack while relaxing in the shade of a Tamarind tree and taking in the wonderful views of the Lokobe Reserve and surrounding islands. During your break, the local Sakalava embroiders will give you a demonstration on tablecloth making and the village children will perform a brief folk show for you. Free time will be provided for you to stroll on the beach, shop for souvenirs or perhaps take a dip in the ocean.

At the conclusion of your visit, you will re-board your boat and cruise back to Nosy Be and your awaiting ship.

Discover highlights of beguiling Mossel Bay and explore a museum complex dedicated to the first European to land in South Africa. Enjoy an enlightening drive around Mossel Bay, a beach-blessed city in the shadow of the Outeniqua Mountains that was named by a Dutch explorer in 1601, when he found a huge collection of mussel shells in a nearby cave. As you travel along the town’s charming streets, you’ll learn that South Africa’s first post office was established here centuries ago after sailors began leaving letters in the cleft of a milkwood tree so that other sailors could deliver them on their journeys.

See that revered, 500-year-old tree, now a National Monument, standing near the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex, which is named for a Portuguese navigator who was the first European to set foot in South Africa in his search for a spice route to the Far East. During your time at the complex, perhaps you’ll visit the absorbing Shell Museum or the Maritime Museum, where a replica of Dias’ ship is on exhibit, along with early maps and navigation instruments. Experience the compelling sites and seafaring history of enchanting Mossel Bay on this captivating excursion.
