Enjoy the challenge and fun of rowing a vessel down the Charles River, a glass-smooth waterway in the heart of Boston that has hosted countless regattas and other rowing events.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a scenic drive through Boston while the guide points out historical landmarks on the way to the rowing site on the Charles River. The river offers excellent conditions for rowing, as it is typically smooth and slow moving.

Once you arrive at Community Rowing, the first public rowing company in Boston, you will receive a short introduction on the basics of rowing and how to make the most of your experience. The benefits of the sport may include enhanced mental and physical health, even when rowing over a short period of time.

It is also a lot of fun just being out on the water and working together as a team to power the vessel. You don’t have to be a skilled rower to enjoy this excursion, as participants of all athletic backgrounds are welcome.

The type of rowing vessel will be determined by the group’s level of skill. Light narrow sculls that can accommodate several people or stable catamarans are typically used. Either way, once you get on the water, you will learn the river traffic patterns, how to navigate and how to maximize your rowing efforts.

Need to Know:

Note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of rowing. Guests should be in good physical shape to participate. It is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Pregnant woman may observe from the coaching lunch area. Children must be over 4ft tall to participate. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested.
