    Culinary Secrets Of The Conch Republic

    Watch highly skilled chefs prepare dishes that reflect Key West’s most prevalent cuisines and enjoy the delicious creations for lunch. The venue for this culinary immersion will be the Key West Cooking School, a 1950s-style kitchen equipped with turquoise appliances and decorated with retro wallpaper. While enjoying this old Key West ambiance, you will observe the chefs making signature dishes that Bahamian, Cuban and Caribbean cuisines have inspired. You will be given the recipes for each dish so you can easily follow along and later prepare the meals yourself at home. Although the exact menu will depend on the season and which local ingredients are freshest, you can expect a bountiful meal of time-honored dishes that are Key West favorites. To enhance the experience, the chefs will tell entertaining stories about everything from Aunt Sally – who supposedly invented key lime pie – to how the early islanders harvested sea salt to preserve their food.

At the Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum, you will step back in time as you discover Key West’s unique maritime heritage and how it became the richest city in the United States. Located in Mallory Square, the Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum combines actors, films and the actual artifacts from the 1985 rediscovery of the wrecked vessel Isaac Allerton, which sank in 1856 on the treacherous Florida Keys reef. You will be invited to climb the 65′ lookout tower to relive the search for wrecks on the reef.
