    Crater Hike & Hilo Waterfalls

    Hilo, Havaí

    Duração: 6 h

See the island’s most spectacular natural wonders on this 6 hour adventure by hiking 4.5 miles through Kilauea Iki Crater and visiting Rainbow Falls.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a meandering drive south into Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The terrain and natural diversity here are so extraordinary that UNESCO deemed the park both a World Biosphere site and a World Heritage site.

A brief stop at the visitor center will provide an introduction to the park, after which you will begin a 4.5 mile hike into Kilauea Iki Crater. The volcano has been steadily erupting since 1983 and the surrounding countryside is extraordinarily dramatic. The rising steam caused by ground water seeping onto the hot volcanic rocks makes the setting all the more surreal and primeval. After the hike you will visit the dramatic Steam Vents area with its amazing view into the vast new crater formed by 2018 outflows of Lava. Water and granola bars are available at this point.

After the return drive to Historic Hilo, you will pause for photos at magnificent 80ft Rainbow Falls, which is named for the Rainbows that often form in the surrounding mist. According to legend, the cave beneath the waterfall was the home of Hina, mother of the demigod Maui...Relaxed by falling water we will head to Downtown Hilo for Local favorite treats of Shave Ice and other delicacies as well as the rich variety of the Farmers Market with its flowers and local fruits. From here it is a short ride back to the ship in time for a late lunch and maybe a nap after your day’s exertion.

    O que é preciso saber:

Note: This is a Real Hike - all participants must be fully mobile and capable of hiking 4.5 miles down into a crater and back out over some rugged and uneven terrain unaided (scooters, wheelchairs, walkers cannot be accommodated). As Hawaii moves away from single use plastic bottles, we provide filtered Ice water dispensed from Igloo coolers and compostable paper cups, your own containers encouraged. National Park Service provides sand filtered water at several stations. As of Oct.1st 2019, there is no red lava anywhere on the Island, should red lava occur this hike will be modified to incorporate safe viewing where possible, and you will be notified of changes on the day of your hike.

    Authentic Taste of Maui

    Kahului, Maui

    Duração: 6 h

Savor authentic Hawaiian dishes and beverages at several establishments in the historical district of Wailuku, which nestles at the foot of the West Maui Mountains.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive in the heart of historical Wailuku, where you will stop in a variety of unpretentious restaurants and locales to sample pure Hawaiian specialties. Some of the dishes will reflect the town’s Asian and Pacific Islander ethnicities.

While the exact offerings will vary, you can expect to taste breakfast staples such as banana pancakes and hot malasadas, a fried-dough treat that Portuguese sugarcane workers introduced to Hawaii in the late 19th century.

Loco moco is another classic, and the Tasty Crust has been serving it for more than 40 years in Wailuku. The dish is a savory combination of rice, hamburger patty and brown gravy, topped with a fried egg or two.

In all likelihood, you will also sample delectable sashimi, a variety of poke bowls and seasoned saimin noodles. Another favorite is Spam musubi, a handheld with a slice of Spam wedged between two blocks of rice and wrapped in nori, a Japanese seaweed.

You will also sample several beers at the Maui Brewing Company, Hawaii’s largest craft brewery. Selections range from a citrus-flavored India Pale Ale known as Big Swell to Coconut Hiwa Porter, a robust dark ale with hints of mocha.

    Kona Black Sand Beach Hike

    Kona, Havaí

    Duração: 6 h

Hike down to a black-sand beach of volcanic origin and discover the lasting influence of King Kamehameha, who was born nearby in the stunningly beautiful countryside.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at a statue of King Kamehameha I, which stands near the site where he was born. Kamehameha is best known for uniting the Hawaiian Islands into one kingdom in 1810, and the statue recognizes his accomplishments.

A wonderfully scenic drive will then bring you to the Pololu Valley, a verdant landscape that is still only sparsely populated despite being first settled in the 15th century. You will have the option of admiring the spectacular coastal scenery from an elevated lookout or hiking down to the black-sand beach.

Made from lava that cooled instantly and shattered when it flowed into the sea, the black sand retains more heat than white sand. Consequently, sea turtles favor it for their nests.

You will enjoy another perspective of the Big Island’s rocky northern shore at Keokea Park, where you will stop for lunch. The coast isn’t protected by offshore reefs, so the surf here is strong, rough and wonderfully picturesque. It is an ideal setting for photos.

A bit inland, you will find Hawi, a free-spirited community with plenty of eclectic shops, including the Kohala Coffee Mill. You will stop there for a cup of coffee made from Kona beans and a scoop of local, hand-crafted ice cream.

    O que é preciso saber:

Note: Participants must be at least 7 years of age. The trail is uneven and fairly steep. It is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina.
