A Taste of Bar Harbor
hrs Estimate Duration
Discover why Bar Harbor attracts so many foodies by sampling a wide variety of delectable dishes and treats made with locally sourced ingredients.
After walking from the pier, you will soon arrive in the heart of Bar Harbor, a city with an abundance of restaurants and shops that serve imaginative and classic Maine dishes. You will visit a number of these establishments to sample some of their most popular offerings.
Your guide will be local and the shop owners quite willing to share the histories of their businesses, so the experience will be enlightening. As you meander over the course of about one mile, you will learn how Bar Harbor’s cuisine has evolved yet kept true to its roots.
Maine’s official berry is the wild blueberry, so it’s only natural that it’s used in many of the signature dishes and treats. Wild blueberries are exceptionally versatile and can be found in everything from pies to popcorn to beer. They also have health benefits, as wild blueberries contain more antioxidants than cultivated blueberries.
You can also expect to learn about Maine’s thriving lobster industry during this epicurean experience. You might hear how lobsters are caught and how their numbers are sustained to ensure that the industry continues to flourish.
Of course, the highlight in each stop will be tasting the local dishes, which will vary depending on what is seasonal, freshest and most representative of Bar Harbor.
