Watch local lumberjacks show off their prodigious skills and then try your hand at outdoorsy competition in an axe-throwing contest. The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show pits Alaskans against British Columbians in a fun-filled, but no-holds-barred match to determine the “Bull of the Woods.” Only one team can come out on top, and the lumberjacks will do whatever it takes to win. As the emcee describes the action, you will see the lumberjacks compete in events such as springboard chopping, buck sawing, rolling and a daring 50-foot tree climb. The competitors will be happy to meet you after the show for pictures and to discuss the lumberjack lifestyle. You might want to ask them about the best ways to throw a hand axe as you will soon be going head-to-head against all comers. Here’s a tip: hold the axe directly over your head with both hands much like a goalie throws a soccer ball. Then, let ‘er rip.
