Watch humpback whales and other marine creatures cavorting in the nutrient-rich waters at Point Adolphus, one of Alaska’s premier observation points. During the cruise, a naturalist will describe the diversity of animals that converge here each summer. They come primarily to feed in the waters that are extraordinarily rich in halibut, salmon and plankton. Point Adolphus is noted for having the highest concentration of humpback whales in the Alaskan panhandle, so be on the lookout for these majestic and intelligent creatures. You can expect them to be breaching the water’s surface, waving their flukes up and down as they dive, and feeding voraciously to fatten up for their winter migration south. You might also observe frolicking Dall’s porpoises, Stellar sea lions, curious harbor seals and Orca whales. You may also see graceful bald eagles swooping down to grab fish in their talons, and perhaps even bears and deer in the surrounding wooded landscape.

Leaving Livorno, you will travel north for 1.5 hours, passing the coastal area of Versilia until reaching La Spezia where you'll begin your exploration to the Cinque Terre: a National Park protected by UNESCO. Weather permitting you will enjoy a scenic cruise or a ride by train till Monterosso al Mare. Here you will have plenty of free time to enjoy a stroll around its narrow streets, to explore the tiny shops, have lunch on your own and after a tasting of the local wine. By boat or train you will reach the fishing village of Vernazza, where you'll enjoy time at leisure. Then you will re-board a boat or a local train back to La Spezia where your motorcoach is waiting for you for the return drive to Livorno.

With an expert driver at the wheel, you won’t miss any of the incredible scenery of lava cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, the rugged northern coastline, lush hillsides of feathery ferns and trees laden with tropical fruits. A high speed catamaran to Haines, a rafting adventure in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve and a riverside picnic make this a wildlife tour of a lifetime. Your tour begins as you board a catamaran for a scenic 45 minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Along the way, you’ll witness spectacular views of waterfalls and ice sculpted peaks, as your guide points out marine wildlife. Upon arrival in Haines, you’ll board a motorcoach for a relaxing 40 minute drive up the Haines Highway, a National Scenic Byway, to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. You’ll see historic Haines and Fort William H. Seward on this narrated drive. Watch for moose and swans in the marshlands as you head up the Chilkat River Valley.

At the preserve, experienced guides await to begin your rafting adventure (not whitewater). You’ll float silently down the river aboard 18’ inflatable rafts — the best way to observe eagles drawn to feed on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also frequent guests at the feast. At the tip of a majestic fjord where the waters of the Saguenay and Saint Lawrence Rivers meet lies the charming village of Saguenay. With a decidedly French atmosphere and a touch of the Old World, you’ll visit the district of Chicoutimi and learn about the area's cultural, historic and natural history. As you begin your sightseeing tour, you’ll discover the importance of the fjord, deeply chiseled in the Laurentian Mountains, as a natural trading route for the first Nations people of the area. In the 1600’s, France established its first fur trading post and colonization of the area soon followed. you’ll learn about the early 20th century brought exploitation of the river with logging, the pulp and paper industries, and aluminum production.

Once arrived in Chicoutimi, you’ll drive along its main street – rue Racine – and its Old Port. A photo opportunity will be made the Little White House that miraculously survived the Flood of 1996. A photo will also be made at the Pulp Mill of Chicoutimi. Founded in 1898, the mill played an important role in the development of the area. Also noted as the first French Canadian owned Pulp Company the mill produced a high quality pulp that was exported throughout the world. You’ll then drive by the Ha! Ha! Pyramid in La Baie district where you’ll learn of the great flood of 1996 that devastated the region and proved to be one of Canada’s greatest natural disasters.

Take in spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast and discover the history of the infamous Pompeii ruins - both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Upon arrival in Pompeii, you'll visit this Roman resort buried by volcanic ash. Your tour will take you to the city's baths, villas and theatres. Because Pompeii is so well preserved, you can see many fine details that reveal the lifestyles of the residents, such as mosaic floors and colourful frescoes in some of the homes. Plaster casts mark the positions of the fallen that were swiftly overcome by the ashes. After lunch, if time permits, you'll visit a cameo factory to see how the jewelry is made.

On your drive along the famed Amalfi Coast, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of sparkling blue sea, citrus orchards, olive groves and little villages nestled along secluded bays and terraced into hillsides. A stop will be made at one of the picturesque villages so that you can explore its quaint streets.

Enjoy a panoramic drive along the picturesque Slovenian hilly coast. Just a glimpse away from the sea, the landscape changes and captures the eye with its preserved natural beauty. Enjoy the scenery over the town of Izola and its coastline. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the region. Start your tour in Skagway’s historic downtown area as your guide points out places of interest and regales you with tales of the famous and foolhardy. Wind through streets lined with wooden boardwalks and false fronted buildings en route to Scenic Overlook, Gold Rush Cemetery and Liarsville. Look for bears, deer and bald eagles in their natural habitats from an elevated observation area in the remote Spasski River Valley. As you leave Hoonah, Alaska’s largest Tlingit Indigenous settlement, the guide will enlighten you with stories about the Tlingits and their fascinating history. Upon reaching the valley, you will walk along a gravel path and boardwalk to the elevated viewing platform. Ever think of taking a boat ride to an active volcano and hike its gravel terrain? Board your local boat “caique” from the old port of Santorini for a 15 minute trip up to Nea Kameni. En route, admire the volcanic shores with the peculiar shape formations of the black volcanic rocks and the white pumice. After disembarking, a steep and fast paced 30 minute, 3/4 mile hike on rocky and gravel terrain takes you to the crater of this still active volcano.

During your walk up an ascending path, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the lava fragments and the volcanic rock formations. Once you reach the crater, you’ll have time to relax and enjoy the view of Santorini and the amazing cliffs of the caldera. Board you boat and sail towards the thermal springs of Palea Kameni, with its green sulfur warm waters and temperatures that reach 37° C (98° F). First, visit attractive Alesund, built on three islands with the spectacular Sunnmore Alps in the background. Pass by Borgund Fjord, with its charming suburbs and well-kept gardens and continue to the municipality of Stordal, well known for its furniture factories, an important export item.

As you reach the fertile valley of Valldal, you’ll ascend up the valley to Trollstigen, reaching approximately 2,800 feet/850 meters above sea level, then start the descent down the Trolls' Path with its daring hairpin bends. Once back down in valley, make a photo stop to take in the lovely Stigfossen Waterfall cascading down the mountainside.

Next, detour up to Trollveggen where you’ll find the Troll Wall with the highest perpendicular rock face in Europe. Climbers from all parts of the world come to visit this over 3,000 foot/1,000 meter tall wall to try out the various routes to the top. Then, pass by Romsdals Fjord with its many small villages known for its ship and boat building. Before returning to your ship, cross over the Orskog Mountain Plateau, a popular skiing area.
