Stroll through the atmospheric streets of the Old Quarter on the way to a nightclub, where you will watch a mesmerizing flamenco performance that tells a passionate story.

After walking from the pier, you will continue at a leisurely pace toward the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Quarter, which the Phoenicians founded in the 12th century. Being the oldest continuously occupied city in Western Europe, Cadiz exudes history, as you will soon discover in the Plaza of San Juan de Dios, a square that originated in medieval times.

As you meander the labyrinthine streets of the Old Quarter, you will pass one architectural treasure after another. Highlights may include the Neoclassical-style Cadiz Cathedral, which boasts a tile dome that appears Moorish, and the collection of elegant 19th-century palaces along Calle Ancha, a wide boulevard that is considered the heart of the city.

In time, you will arrive at Taberna Flamenco La Cava, a nightclub that showcases the art of flamenco. Before taking your seat, be sure to notice the photos on the wall of some of the most acclaimed flamenco performers in the past 50 years.

UNESCO honored flamenco by recognizing it on its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Andalusia, especially Cadiz, is the heartland of flamenco, an electrifying art form that fuses expressive songs, passionate dancing and emotional music. To enhance your immersion into the local culture, you will be served traditional tapas that may include Serrano ham and Manchego cheese.

Ride horseback through a serene pine forest in the country and then return to Cadiz for a panoramic drive through the historical downtown, passing many of its landmark attractions.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a wonderfully picturesque drive south, following a mostly coastal road to the town of Chiclana de la Frontera. Here, you will find the Royal Center Hipica, an equestrian facility where you will be paired with a horse suited to your riding abilities. Even beginners will be comfortable in the saddle.

Following a brief orientation on how to make the most of the experience, you will ride into the surrounding pine forests. The gentle trail will lead you through the spectacularly scenic and serene countryside at a leisurely pace that will allow you to really take in the natural beauty.

Along the way, the guide will point out the most noteworthy flora and perhaps describe the founding of Chiclana de la Frontera in the early 14th century. You can expect it to be an enlightening, immensely peaceful ride, most of it in the shade of the towering pines.

Upon returning to Cadiz, you will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, which the Phoenicians founded in the 12th century. You can’t help but notice the Moorish influence in the architecture, especially in the Old Quarter. Highlights include the Neoclassical-style Cadiz Cathedral, an abundance of stately 18th-century mansions and the remains of the original walls that once protected the city.

Savor the seafood-influenced small-plate cuisine of Cadiz at two popular tapas bars, which you will reach by walking through several historical plazas lined with architectural gems.

After departing from the pier on foot, you will soon arrive in the old quarter of Cadiz, which is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in western Europe. Situated on a picturesque peninsula, the area is immensely historic and architecturally rich.

In tree-lined Plaza Mina, you will stop at a restaurant known for its Andalusian tapas. While the menu of these small-plate specialties will vary according to what’s freshest, you might expect to be served tapas made with fresh seafood such as anchovies, Bluefin tuna, oysters or shrimp. A local beer or glass of wine makes a wonderful accompaniment.

Continuing on, you will pass popular Plaza de Flores, where you will likely see vendors offering flowers of every color imaginable. Upon reaching Plaza de la Cathedral, you will pause at the namesake stone cathedral at its center. Designed in a Neoclassical style in the 18th century, the stone cathedral has a Moorish feel that reflects the history of Cadiz.

A stop for more tapas at a popular bar in the plaza will reinforce Cadiz’s reputation for extraordinary traditional cuisine. You will then walk back toward the pier, stopping briefly at San Juan de Dios, the town’s largest square and home to the landmark town hall. As an alternative, you may remain in town and return to the pier later on your own.

The best thing about Seville is that all the major sights are packed neatly into one easily-walkable square mile, most of which is flat. Your best friend, from an orientation point of view, will be the Giralda Tower. The 319-feet high tower is a great landmark when you loose yourself in the wonderful maze of city streets.
