At the top of the 700-foot peak, you will race through the tree canopy on a series of ziplines. Feel free to scream as there will never be a dull moment. Next up is the Ragamuffin, an inverted roller coaster that twists and turns and takes you out over a tropical landscape that couldn’t be more beautiful. OVERVIEW
Please note this tour starts in Gatun Yacht Club and ends in Colon.
Watch a ship pass through the Miraflores locks and gain a deeper understanding of this engineering marvel through an IMAX film that describes the Panama Canal’s operation. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the documentary clearly explains the complexities and challenges of the canal, past and present. Through extraordinary shots from the air, historical re-creations and up-close views of various ships passing through the canal, you will discover just how ingenious the locks are. Amazingly, they operate by gravity without a single water pump. In time, you will drive through the land bordering the canal, an area known as the Canal Zone until Panama assumed control of it in 1999. There you will see Fort Clayton, the former U.S. Army base for the Southern Command Headquarters, and the former Albrook Air Force Base, parts of which have been converted into a high-end commercial and residential area that includes an airport.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Watch an IMAX documentary movie with incredibly detailed footage of the Panama Canal.
• Gain a deep understanding of the canal’s history and the challenges to keep it operating.
• Watch a ship pass through the canal’s Miraflores locks from an elevated terrace.
• Pass through two former U.S. military bases, one for the Army, the other for the Air Force.
HELPFUL HINTS
• Dress in weather-appropriate clothing.
• Wear flat comfortable walking shoes.

OVERVIEW
See the Panama Canal’s newest, most innovative set of locks and enjoy a panoramic tour of the surrounding area. The Aqua Clara locks were built to provide an alternative lane for ships that are too long and too wide to pass through the canal’s original locks. The guide will explain their complex operation in easy-to-understand terms so you can truly appreciate this marvel of engineering. You will also learn some the fascinating history of the land bordering the canal, an area known as the Canal Zone until Panama assumed control of it in 1999. The Amador Islands that you will see just offshore are manmade with rock excavated from the canal when it was dug. Driving through Panama City will present a glimpse into its pre-canal history, as the oldest section was founded in 1519. For centuries, it was the starting point for pack animals to carry cargo across the isthmus to the Caribbean Sea.
HIGHLIGHTS
• View the Aqua Clara locks and learn about their cutting-edge engineering.
• See the attractions in the surrounding area, which Panama didn’t govern until 1999.
• Drive through Panama City for an understanding of its past and vision for the future.
HELPFUL HINTS
• Dress in weather-appropriate clothing.
• Wear flat comfortable walking shoes.

Camels are well-suited to traveling across sand as they have been used for transportation in the desert for centuries. As you will discover firsthand, camels have a side-to-side gait that has been likened to riding ocean waves. You will not only ride one of these so-called “ships of the desert,” but also learn fascinating facts about their characteristics and behavior.
