does encore have gaint chess board ?

if so, what deck? tia
Asked by: kelloway
I don't remember seeing one, but it's a big ship. If there is one, it's probably on the aft area of decks 16 or 17 (don't recall seeing it by the pool or children's play area either). There might be one in the game room on deck 9? I think it's called the galaxy lounge, or something like that. Go to youtube and search for "NCL Encore". Watch any of the ship tours and you'll get a better idea of the ship. Come to think of it, there might be a checker/chess board on deck 16 under the jogging track, but I don't recall seeing any chess pieces. Again, youtube is probably your best bet for an answer - or call/chat with NCL reps.

Shore Excursion - Aug 8 - Goldbelt Tram Shore Excursions Juneau, Alaska

Hi Booked Aug 8 - Goldbelt Tram Shore Excursions Juneau, Alaska - 2.31 pm - but just saw the cruise arrives in Juneau at 2.30 pm. So what if the ship is delayed or if you cannot make it as it takes time to de-board. Is this cutting it too close or i should be fine? Regards, Rahul
Asked by: Rahul
If you book an excursion through the NCL website, you have a guarantee that you'll make it. If you booked it on your own - not through the NCL website, then you better call and change your time (if you can). I know it's more expensive if you do it through NCL, but doing so gives you a guarantee that if they get into port late, you won't have a problem. ALSO, if you book an excursion that runs late getting back to the ship, the ship will wait for you if you booked it through NCL.

Do we need reservations for the kid’s activities ie: Lazer tag, raceway etc ?

Asked by: Humming
Raceway most likely yes if you don't want to be in line for hours. If you have the "unlimited pass" you can get back in line as much as you want, but you've got to wait like everyone else. For everything else, it's pretty much stand in line at the video arcade on deck 5,deck 16 - kid's aqua park, water slides, galaxy pavilion, and laser tag.

If we are traveling on an Alaskan cruise and not getting off the boat in Canada when the boat docks there, do we need our birth certificate?

Asked by: Dcidp
Any US citizen with a VALID passport needs nothing more than the passport to enter Canada (after all, they're our neighbors :). Any other nationalities need visas. NCL will send you an email prior to embarkation (with plenty of advance notice) as to WHERE to apply (on the internet) to obtain a visa from Canada. Truthfully, the only time you MIGHT need a visa if you're a US citizen is if you get off the ship in Canada and FLY OUT to another country.

Which rooms have king beds

Asked by: BKChambers
Haven. If you're really curious, use the chat or give them a call. No commitments by the people you talk too on either of these avenues of information. Club balcony still has queen, but they are SUPPOSED to be better beds than a regular balcony room. Softer sheets and I believe a topper foam mattress, but it's been a while since I read the club balcony amenities list. Read the club balcony description and it should tell you what kind of bed you're getting. But, if you REALLY must have a king, you need to go Haven. We had room 11706 and the bed was FANTASTIC. It also had a HUGE bathroom (bathroom was nearly the size of the bedroom). I know it's expensive, but wow what an experience. The primary perk is the Haven restaurant, but the Haven lounge, bar, pool, hot tubs, deck 19, and the other perks that come with it, really do make an experience unequaled by anything else on board.

Dress codes

This is our first cruise and we keep seeing there are “suggested dress codes” for certain restaurants, times and places. Is there a way to find these before we pack? I don’t want to run into an awkward situation, but also don’t want to overpack. Thanks!
Asked by: Nick1535
NCL does not have a dress code, the only restaurant that has any sort of code is Le Bistro which is a collar shirt and pants (no shorts), other than that pack to wear what you want.

Do you have a hot tub on the Norwegian Encore (Alaska cruises)? And can kids enjoy it?

Asked by: RF1ghbghk
There are several hot tubs on the ship. Whether or not your kids will enjoy it is subjective and there will be other people there using it as well.

Does the Encore have self service laundry facilities?

I am traveling with some new travelers, they are asking about laundry facilities on board. What shall I tell them?
Asked by: CaptWendell
There are no self-service laundry facilities on any NCL ship. You can send your laundry to the ship's laundry for a fee, similar to a land-based dry cleaner, generally with overnight service. They usually run a special mid-cruise - ask your cabin attendant.

Cabin 8110 Norwegian Encore

does cabin 8110 on Norwegian Encore have an obstructed view?
Asked by: rpolice
Depends on your "point of view". If you step up to the rail and look forward, your view is impeded by the bow of the ship. If you're looking straight out, you'll see everything. Not too much different than all the other rooms on board. Go to youtube and search for "Encore 8110". You'll probably get a hit for one of its sister ships and I think there's a video of the breakaway, escape, or another ship that shows you what to expect. I recall looking down on the forward area of the ship from room 11706 and seeing something similar on the Encore (opposite side of the ship) where anyone in the first two or three cabins might consider to be an obstructed view forward, but seriously, I don't think it's that bad. if you want to see where you're going turn on the TV, they have a forward facing video camera showing where the ship is going. Next bet is to go to the observation lounge on deck 14, 15, or 16 (I don't remember which it is on) but you get a great view from there. You DO get a HUGE deck/balcony though. That's the trade off. If you want to see forward, get something on deck 10 or higher (bow of the ship slopes up high enough even Haven guests in forward facing rooms can't see forward). Decks 11 and higher have great views forward if you lean over the balcony railing. Just be careful, it's a long fall to deck 8 where the large decks act as non-functioning trampolines. If you take a Panama Canal cruise, deck 8 is really nice since you're close to the action. Note, they also open the bow of the ship for people to go forward and experience the transit (which can be a little difficult for passengers on deck 8 since that's how everyone on board gets to the bow - through your passageway). Also note, the crew has access to the bow area on deck 8 for activities and their own bar. And, I guarantee, any port where they drop anchor, you're going to possibly jump out of your skin when the anchor and chains hammer their way across the deck below you. Which in some cases tends to happen early morning when they arrive in port. :)

Can the family balcony sleep 4?

Asked by: Dungu
Usually, a family balcony means it can sleep 4. But if you want to know for sure, go to the deck plans for the Encore and find the deck and room you're interested in and see if the "Key" (a plus sign if I remember correctly) is part of the room number ON THE DECK PLAN ONLY, and it will tell you if that room has room for 4. For example, we'll be in room 14208+ on an upcoming voyage. The plus sign means the sofa turns into a bed and can sleep 2 (not the most comfortable sleeping arrangement, but for kids it shouldn't be a problem). Some rooms do have "wall drop down beds". BUT, if you want to make sure, CALL or CHAT and they should be able to tell you what you'll be getting for the specific room you're interested in. THIS MAY NOT APPLY TO "Guaranteed" rooms, so if you want a specific sleeping arrangement, call or chat. Older people (like myself) wouldn't like the sofa, but the sofa supposedly turns into a queen sized bed. You'll generally want an upgraded bathroom for that many people, so I'd recommend a Club Balcony,Suite, but that's your call. You also might want to check the website for "free extra guests" cruises. Those might save you some cash.

Are the balcony rooms on Encore's deck 12 obstructed views?

Asked by: KelliMM
The majority of balcony rooms on the Encore have no obstructions. The usual obstructions on any ship are the life boats and structural support members. Those, I think are on the aft of deck 8 or 7. There are very few rooms with this problem. Deck eight forward has a minor bow obstruction as you look forward, but not as you look out directly from the deck. One of the few rooms with an obstruction is on deck 13 below the bridge (the two forward facing Haven rooms). As you look out, half the view is obstructed with what look like an old portal opening. It's not bad though since you can look out while on the deck and lean forward to see forward, or go into the bedroom and look straight ahead through the window and see everything in front of the ship.

What can I do with my toddler?

Our family will be going on an Alaskan cruise in October 2023. Our son will be almost 2.5 years old during our sailing. Any tips for entertaining a 2-year-old on a 7-night Alaskan cruise around this time of year with colder temperatures?
Asked by: Morgan6290
Too late to answer this question now, but in case someone else sees this, the "Guppies" and "Splash academy" areas on the lowest deck (5?) is set up for kids, but can be kind of iffy depending on your cruise. I think there are two sessions a day where they'll take kids of specific ages (one for toddlers and another for older pre-teen kids). The care givers get a break sometime after noon for about an hour. So, one early session and one afternoon session. You might want to search youtube for "NCL Encore" tours. One travel agent gives a brief overview of kid friendly areas of the ship.

What is the nightly dinner menu in the main dining room? I want to book specialty dining, but don't want to miss lobster or snow crab in the

Asked by: Curious052023
You probably can't find out until you get on board and visit the head waiter. Depending on your cruise you might be able to reschedule a few of your specialty dining times. If you're in the Haven, your concierge will help you do this. One of the perks of the Haven is the Haven restaurant itself and then the concierge support. If you're high enough in your latitude points (without being in the Haven), you might want to call your concierge and ask. They MIGHT know. I seem to remember reading in the latitude rewards point table that anyone with a gold or better level gets access to a concierge representative. If you have an NCL account, you can see the latitude rewards info in your "My NCL" after you log in.

do you have direct stair access form the vibe beach club to the pool on deck 16

does your pass give you access to the Haven pool
Asked by: Hacker1957
I'm not sure what you mean by "direct access", but yes, you can get to the Vibe deck (I think that's on deck 19) and there are OUTSIDE stairs that will take you to the entrances to the Vibe. There is an elevator you can take too, but that's not easy to find. AND, no, it does not provide access to the Haven pool on deck 17. Anything inside the HAVEN is exclusive use to Haven passengers (that includes everything forward of the deck 19 Vibe area). On special occasions they MIGHT open the doors between the Vibe and Haven area on deck 19 - but I think those doors are only opened for maintenance purposes.

Could beds be seperated

Hello. We applied for a room upgrade Feb. 01 2023. We are now 2 weeks away from sailing. Is there any way to know if it was accepted?

I keep seeing things for us to apply for an upgrade, but we already did it. Because we did it 3 over 3 months ago and I keep seeing things to upgrade, I wonder if the upgrade was even considered...or do I need to do it again?
Asked by: youngmech63
I made an offer about the same time and received an email about a month ago that my bid was accepted. I was told that an accepted bid would receive an email-others it isn’t accepted…even up to one day before sailing. Try looking on the NCL website at your cabin assignment. Mine changed from the original after the upgrade

How do i check a cabin availability on a specific travel date?

Asked by: Francois
The website is set up to exactly do that. If you're not thrilled about digging around in the website, I suggest you CALL or CHAT. The folks you deal with are usually quite friendly and helpful. You can do the booking through them for any specific room and for any specific cruise. They WILL walk you through the website and give you a tutorial if you ask, but do remember, these folks tend to get paid by the call, so don't burden them with a two hour tutorial. Do your homework, dig around by PLAYING with the website. It WON'T book you for a cruise and make you pay for it until you get through a LOT of steps (well past selecting the availability of the cruise, room, deck, time period, etc) so have fun clicking away on stuff. Usually, you can find the cruise you're interested in, click on the fairly obvious buttons until you see the categories of rooms, then CLICK on the box below the room category for the time period of the cruise (cruises are usually on a row indicating the time period and availability of each category of room). Click on the row at the box for the room category and it will show you sub categories of that room. If you select one of the sub room categories, it will usually take you to a listing of specific rooms based on a specific deck. It will only show you rooms that are available. If you select that room, you can then book it and pay for it (or hold it with a deposit). If you're not sure about the room, I suggest you find the "Deck plans" for the ship and see what's around the room. I always check to see what's below, above and to each side of the room. Being above an entertainment venue or room with heavy equipment could be a downer if you're a light sleeper. Rooms on decks next to the exercise equipment can be a major pain if someone is thumping away on a treadmill, dropping weights, etc. So take that into consideration too.

WHAT IS THE TAX FOR DRINKS IN PORT FOR FULL DRINK PACKAGE

Asked by: Hesh
Varies by port. I don't recall paying more than 10% in any given port, but again, it varies by port and they don't advertise the percentage (and in some cases the ship doesn't know till they get there since the country/port authority may change the tax at any time). You're generally only in port not more than 12 hours, so, if you can't do without a drink for that long (if the tax is getting in the way of your libation consumption) you might want to contact AA (just kidding). Something to consider, if you know you're going to want a drink at 2:00PM and the ship gets into port at 8:00AM, go get the drink, beer, wine, before the ship gets into port (sometimes it's based on how many miles you are outside of port - like international waters - as to when the tax gets applied, so ask in advance if it's important to you). I have grabbed a beer BOTTLE once or twice at a bar and stuffed it into the fridge and cracked it open when in port, but it's probably best to be discrete and not too obvious. Like get it at night and not first thing in the morning.
