We are booked for an Alaskan cruise in early June. What temperature should we expect and will it be tolerable to use the hot tubs?

Asked by: Crhall
The temperature will be in the 70s during the day and 50s at night. However, make sure you carry at least one thick jacket. The decks on the ship can get quite chilly when the ship is sailing in the Alaskan waters. Also if you have plans to visit a glacier, make sure you have warmer clothes and appropriate shoes. You can also check the weather on any weather related websites. If you check a 2-3 days before the cruise sail date, you can even get details of any rain in the ports you are visiting. You can use the hot tubs but since the decks are open it will still be cold outside the tub.

What time of power receptacles does the ship have? What adaptor is required for a US plug?

Asked by: criz
All ships have 110 V and 220 V A/C. The connector is US prongs for 110 V and European style prongs for the 220 V. There is one outlet in your room next to the dressing table and another one in the bathroom. The outlets are limited and are not located next to your bed. You may want to take an extension cord if you want to connect some device next to your bed.

I see the ship arrives at the port at 6am. How long do we have to disembark?

I'm trying to make transfer arrangements. How long does it usually take to disembark after the ships arrives at the port?
Asked by: Mhorve
It usually takes about 30 minutes for the ship to be cleared by customs before the guests can start disembarking. The VIP guests are the first to disembark followed by guests carrying their own bags off the ship. All other guests can pick their bags at the port and go through customs. If you walk off the ship with your bags, it can take about 30 additional minutes to go through customs after the ship is cleared by customs. For other guests it can take 1-2 hours to disembark and clear customs. As far as a flight is concerned, if the ship docks at 6 AM, a safe bet would be after 10 AM for domestic flights and 12 PM for international flights.

Has anyone pre-coordinated with the Butler prior to the cruise to give them a heads up on a party in the room?

We have a large group of guests in rooms next to each other and want to plan a party. We asked our butler on our last cruise and was told that it helps to give them notice to plan ahead. Now that I am ready to do that, I realize that I don't know how to pass that on.

The rooms have coffee makers--what style?

Asked by: drdaver
There is a coffee maker in each stateroom except Studio, Inside, and Ocean View cabins. NCL uses a variety of brands, including Hamilton Beach, LavAzza, and Keurig. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to know in advance which brand will be in your room.

How can I see a picture of my stateroom?

Asked by: rosiegeck
Sample photos for each class of stateroom may be viewed by clicking on the Staterooms link above and navigating to your stateroom category. You also can see the floor plan of your room type. You also may try an internet search for "NCL stateroom photos" to see pictures posted by previous passengers. It is unlikely that you will be able to find an actual photo of your particular cabin, but most cabins within a category are quite similar in appearance.

Do Moderno or Cagney's offer pescatarian options?

Do either of these restaurants offer vegetarian or pescatarian options?
Asked by: BethMF
Surprisingly enough, Cagney's offers some of the best seafood dishes available on NCL ships. They also have some delightful vegetable side dishes. Moderno features a fantastic salad bar, but all of the main dishes are beef, pork, lamb, or chicken. You can contact the NCL Reservations Department in advance of your cruise to request a vegetarian or vegan diet, otherwise you may find that some of the vegetable dishes have been prepared using animal products.

You should be able to upgrade. If you received the UBP as part of the promotion while booking your cruise, you will have to pay for the difference in the package price. Contact your NCL sales rep or travel agent to make the reservation changes.

Transport from ship to tour bus.

Does anyone if there is any type of transport from the ship to the tour bus area.? I've been watching some of the Utube blogs and I am going on the NCL Jewel to Alaska. I notice there are long walks to the tour bus lots and I have a mobilityi issue.
Asked by: Baduda
In Ketchikan and Juneau there are shuttle buses from the port to the town center where most of the tour buses depart. In Skagway, however, unless you are booked on a train ride which departs from the pier, you likely will be faced with a walk of several blocks to get into town. If you r cruise also stops at Victoria, Sitka, or Icy Strait Point, you also may have difficulty getting around.

Are there outdoor movies on the Jewel?

Asked by: 5xgrandma
There were no outdoor movies shown on any of the three cruises I have taken on the Jewel. Although some of the newer, larger NCL ships do have outdoor screens, the Jewel does not currently feature one. Movies are available on your stateroom TV and the ship does sometimes show movies on a large screen in the auditorium or a lounge, but not outdoors.

Is there a chair that makes into a single bed in the 2 smallest bedrooms in the Garden Villa?

There are 7 of us staying in the Garden Villa. 3 of the girls want to stay in same bedroom, either one. Can this be done.? Two in bed and the other???? My husband and I have the Master bedroom and do not want anyone else in it but us. Alaska in Sept. '19.
Asked by: Harriett
It may be possible to request a cot or roll-away bed for one of the bedrooms, but neither of them come equipped with a chair that can be made into a bed. We visited friends who were traveling in the Garden Villa the last time we were on the Jewel. I do not remember any Pullman style pull down beds in any of the bedrooms. Your best option would be to contact the NCL Reservations Department by phone to make your request known.

On the Jewel...what are the differences between a suite and the Haven suite..i only see pool and sundeck options

Asked by: mikesharon
The Haven was introduced on the Epic and has become a feature on all new ships in the fleet. Prior to the Epic, the most luxuriest room on NCL ships was a Suite. When some of the older ships have been refurbished, Haven rooms have been added, while many of the existing Suites have been retained. On each of the newer ships, the Haven area also includes an exclusive restaurant, bar, and lounge. On older ships which have been refurbished to include Haven rooms, there is no separate Haven restaurant, so the amenities of a Haven stateroom are similar to a Suite on those ships. You can view sample floor plans and room photos by clicking on the "Staterooms" link above to see the differences in the rooms.

Is there a dress code in the specialty restaurants?

Asked by: blgjlg
NCL recommends "smart casual" attire, but they do not seem to enforce a dress code in the restaurants, preferring to leave it to the discretion of their guests. The FAQ section of this website states: Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it's jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants.

Transport from Seward to Anchorage

We bought a 7-day Alaska from Vancouver to Seward. We will be transported by bus from Seward to Anchorage after completing the cruise?
Asked by: Bozena
Bus transfers as well as travel by train are available for booking as shore excursions. You can find schedule and pricing details at the Shore Excursion section of the NCL website. My wife and I cruised Alaska a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the amazing scenery on the train trip from Seward to Anchorage. We continued on by train to Denali National Park, then on by train to Fairbanks, the perfect conclusion to a spectacular Alaskan adventure.

Where do we make note of medical needs?

i.e., seat in shower, distilled water for CPAP machine?
Asked by: Carib
You can ask your stateroom attendant for a stool for your shower. NCL generally prohibits passengers from bringing water on board with them, but makes an exception for distilled water for medical use such as with a CPAP. You should contact the NCL Reservations Department by phone at least a month before your cruise so they can alert the ship's crew to your needs.
