Wine Tasting at Pupillo Winery

Sample an inspiring selection of wines at the Pupillo Winery, a 12th-century property and botanical garden that the Pupillo family has owned and operated for the past century. An enlightening tour of the vineyards will serve as an introduction the winery’s principal grape—Moscato di Siracusa. Although perhaps the oldest grape in Italy, the Moscato had been long forgotten and production dwindled until the 1990s. Wineries such as Pupillo have now brought the grape back to the forefront, producing dry, semi-sweet and sweet varieties that you might try during the wine tasting. You may also be served a red produced entirely from the indigenous East Sicilian grape Nero d’Avola. The limestone in the soil gives a softness to the Moscato while the volcanic characteristics of the soil tend to strengthen the red wine’s body. The wines in the tasting are typically paired with fresh-baked bread, olive oils, cheeses and almond biscuits.
