    Scenic Southern Shores

    OVERVIEW

    Enjoy a panoramic drive along Bermuda’s picturesque southern shore with stops along the way at the most alluring attractions. After crossing the world’s smallest drawbridge, you will travel past a lengthy nature reserve in surprisingly bucolic Somerset Village, around the Great Sound and on to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Climb the spiral staircase of this whitewashed beacon – the world’s oldest cast-iron lighthouse – and you will be treated to 360° views of southern Bermuda. As you will notice while pausing at some of the loveliest beaches that rim the southern shores, they feature pink sand. The magnificent pastel hue comes from a combination of white limestone sediment and red single-cell organisms called foraminifera. Pastels also dominate Hamilton, Bermuda’s winsome capital, especially along Front Street. The colors beautifully complement the harbor’s turquoise water. During free time in Hamilton, you might shop in the one-of-a-kind stores or simply meander about enjoying the stylish ambiance.

    Restless Native Catamaran Sail & Snorkel

    'White Hot' Catamaran Sunset Sail

    After departing from the pier on the Rising Son II, you will sail into the Great Sound, a body of impossibly turquoise water that fills the bend in the distinctive fishhook shape of Bermuda. A coral reef at the mouth of the sound shelters the inner waters, making for a typically calm cruise on the open-concept catamaran.

    Catamaran Coral Reef Snorkel

    West End Trolley Tour

    Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda

    After departing from the pier in an open-air train trolley, you will soon arrive in the heart of the Royal Naval Dockyard. Known as the “Gibraltar of the West,” the dockyard played a vital role in War of 1812 and both World Wars. As you ride the trolley through the streets, the conductor will entertain you with colorful anecdotes and fascinating facts about the history and architecture of the dockyard. Along the way, you will pass the Royal Navy Cemetery, which dates back to 1812. Other points of interest include Lagoon Park, whose mangroves support a thriving population of birds, and Somerset Village, a residential area on Somerset Island that was settled centuries ago.

    The tour ends back at the pier. However, as an alternative, the conductor will drop you at Clock Tower Mall to browse the shops and then you may return to the pier later on your own.

    Note: This tour is primarily seated and panoramic in nature with limited walking. There will be a step required to enter and exit the trolley train. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of ability.     Sightseeing Beach Snorkel Combo

    OVERVIEW

    Cruise along Bermuda’s western shore in a sleek catamaran and enjoy free time snorkeling and swimming off one of the sandbars. While cruising, you will hear entertaining stories about the history of Royal Naval Dockyard and how Bermuda has evolved since its founding in 1612. The scenery will be extraordinary the entire way, but especially once the catamaran anchors in the shallows. You will be free to swim in the crystal-clear waters and snorkel the coral reefs, which are teeming with marine life. Bright blue tangs, queen triggerfish and reddish squirrelfish are frequently spotted. You may even catch sight of hawksbill and green sea turtles gracefully swimming by. If you are looking for a little more activity, kayaks and paddleboards are available. Another highlight will be stopping to feed the fish gathered around the H.M.S Vixen, a ship that became an artificial reef after the British Royal Navy intentionally scuttled it in 1896.

    Shipwreck & Coral Reef Snorkel Combo

    Join the crew on your snorkel boat, as your Captain sets course for the wreck of the 'Constellation', a shipwreck made world-famous by the film "The Deep". Three decades later, there is even more beautiful coral and fish surrounding the shipwreck. The wreck lies in only 20 feet of water, but is six miles off the north coast of Bermuda. The views are as breathtaking above the water, as they are below. After a full snorkel instruction and safety briefing, you’ll have approximately 45 minutes to explore the 'Constellation', as well as the nearby wreck of the 'Montana'. The Captain will then sound the horn, and prepare to cruise to your next snorkel location, a beautiful and secluded cluster of the world's most healthy coral reef. You’ll have another half hour to venture out and explore the underwater world before making the way back to your ship. In the event of inclement sea conditions, captain reserves the right to substitute with an inshore reef site.

    Crystal Clear Kayak

    OVERVIEW

    Observe the wonders underwater through the transparent bottom of your kayak while paddling through the sheltered waters off Ely’s Harbour in the West End. After a brief orientation to ensure that you maximize the experience, you will ease into a two-person kayak and paddle off into the harbor’s typically calm and clear waters. You will glide past shores lined with environmentally friendly mangroves, pause to admire the dramatically eroded cliff known Cathedral Rock and gaze out over Wreck Hill, where the Sea Venture supposedly wrecked in 1609 stranding its English crew and passengers. You may also paddle around the beach-rimmed islands that dot the natural harbor and stop to swim. Even so, the most unusual part of this adventure is watching the marine life through the kayak’s clear bottom. You may see brightly colored blue angelfish, striped sergeant majors, princess parrotfish and spotted eagle rays, all of which are native to Bermuda.

    Walk the cobblestone streets of thoroughly charming St. George, the oldest inhabited town of English origin in the New World. Because of that distinction, UNESCO named St. George a World Heritage site and it is well worth exploring. The guide will elaborate on the town’s intriguing past as you tour one landmark after another, beginning with the Tucker House, a family home that hasn’t changed one iota since being built in 1750, you will then learn about the origins of the island at the Towne Hall. The Mitchell House was built even earlier and is now a museum full of extraordinary artifacts. As you explore the State House, you will hear details about Bermuda’s Parliament, which met there for nearly 200 years until Bermuda’s capital moved to Hamilton. Other highlights include St. Peter’s Church, the Globe Hotel – the headquarters of a notorious Confederate arms runner during the Civil War – and Somers Garden, a lush greenspace named for Admiral George Somers, who is considered to be the founder of Bermuda.

    Spend hours relaxing on a beach that the locals prefer because it is usually less crowded than other stretches of sand. To ensure that you have everything you could possibly need, you will first stop at a mini-mart to stock up on your favorite snacks and drinks. It won’t take long to reach Chaplin Bay, giving you all the more time to enjoy its secluded beach, a beautiful setting tucked along Bermuda’s southern shore. The sand is soft pink, the water brilliant blue and the sea is typically calm as the beach is sheltered by the large boulders that bookend it. Feel free to pull up a beach chair and bask in the sun or, if you prefer the shade, umbrellas are available. There will be plenty of time to take a refreshing swim, stroll along the shore and do most of anything else you please with no schedule to follow other than your own.

Although beautiful, the reef is treacherous and there have been over 300 shipwrecks to prove it. On this trip you’ll visit two of Bermuda’s most famous shipwrecks, the Constellation and the Montana. They are home to an abundance of coral and fish and they are situated on the very edge of the surrounding reef.


    The Captain will provide you with an overview on the history on Bermuda and some of its shipwrecks. Upon arrival to the site, you’ll be issued with snorkel equipment and given a safety briefing on how you may best enjoy up to one hour of safe snorkeling. Finally, enjoy one complimentary Rum Swizzle or soft drink on the return trip to your ship.

    Note: Participants must be strong swimmers. This tour is for advanced snorkelers only. Participants must be at least 8 years of age, weigh no more than 300 lbs, be in good physical condition and comfortable with swimming in water too deep to stand. Persons with back problems or physical disabilities should not participate. This tour is weather dependent and alternate reefs will be used. A cash bar is available. Participants must be at least 21 years of age to consume alcohol. A valid photo I.D. is required. Bring your swimsuit, a towel and sunscreen. Cash bar available for extra purchases. Guests who go ashore do so with the understanding that they will be mixing with members of the general public.
