Enjoy a glass of wine, a mug of draft beer or try a Bloody Mary-like drink known as a Canadian Caesar. They all go great with poutine – a dish of French fries and cheese curds with brown gravy. A short, narrated bus ride brings you to Salmon Creek, the outdoor site for your salmon bake. Listen to live Alaska folk music while you dine under translucent, heated domes shielding you from the elements. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat feast. It is off to the historic and magnificent White Pass Train adventure. From an antique parlor car, enjoy the incredible scenery while your tour guide shares the stories and history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Upon reaching Fraser, British Columbia board your motorcoach and take a short trip to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Then it’s time to experience the country that you heard about! Breathe pristine air, taste wild berries in season, hear the roar of raging white water and thrill to the sensations of a swaying walkway over 60 feet above the rapids. There are Tagish First Nation Staff and Elders to answer questions about the site. A variety of First Nations art pieces and crafts are available for purchase, as well. After your experience at the Yukon Suspension Bridge, you’ll continue on your motorcoach for the journey down the west side of the White Pass Canyon. Listen as your driver/guide entertains you with stories of the stampeders who trekked through the pass in search of gold. You’ll see picturesque points such as Tormented Valley and Pitchfork Falls as you head back to your ship.

Join professional mountaineering guides for a two-hour trek through a glacial icescape. A scenic helicopter flight will take you to your trekking site. No experience is necessary, as guides will teach you the proper use of the mountaineering gear so that the remote areas of the glacier can be accessed. All you need to bring is a camera, a willing attitude and an appetite for adventure.

Experience life in the days of the Klondike Gold Rush through activities that defined Alaska in the late 1890s. Upon arriving in Dredge Town, a replica of typical gold rush community, you will watch a sled dog demonstration and interact with puppies that will eventually pull sleds for the famed Iditarod annual competition. You will also learn to pan gold and extract gold nuggets from a stream with a water sluice much like those that the prospectors used. You can then bring your pay dirt to the assayer’s office to determine its value. The gold will be yours to keep. An enlightening tour of the 60 Mile Dredge, one of the last remaining authentic gold dredges in the world, adds even more depth to your understanding of the mania that fueled the Klondike Gold Rush. Watch a traditional tribal performance that reflects the long and fascinating history of the Tlingits as a prelude to a feast of fresh seafood and other classic Alaskan dishes. After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at the Native Heritage Center Theater to watch the local Tlingits perform an inspiring tribal interpretation. The Tlingits have lived in this part of southeastern Alaska for thousands of years and their traditions run deep. They express them beautifully through interpretive songs and storytelling. The performers will be dressed in full regalia, including masks and headdresses. The entertainers will share their history from the time when advancing glaciers forced them out of their original homeland in Glacier Bay. They called their new settlement Hoonah, a word that means “where the north wind doesn’t blow.” With their rich history of harvesting resources from the sea and land, the Tlingit have always had great respect for the environment. Many of their performances express the significance of indigenous animals such as the raven, seal and eagle. Others tell of the tribe’s struggles with the harsh environment and poignant social issues. Following the performance, you will dine on a sumptuous meal of classic Alaskan dishes. The menu will include seasonal shrimp and crabs, Andouille sausage and all sorts of sides. Afterwards, you can make s’mores around the campfire. Your experience begins with a short walk along the fishing pier of Ketchikan, a historic fishing port and the gateway to Alaska. Admire the spectacular views of the glacier and towering peaks as you float downstream. You’ll also want to be on the lookout for local wildlife.

You can choose from two raft style options, a paddle raft or an oar boat. The oar boat is perfect for those who want the guide to do all the work, as you sit and enjoy the narration and scenery. The paddle raft is perfect for those who want to power their raft through rapids, following the commands of their guide. At the end of your journey you’ll head to shore to enjoy an Alaska style snack. There will be splashes and the water is very cold.

Take an insider’s tour of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, a national historic site that is more commonly known as the Centre of the Universe. The observatory perches on Little Saanich Mountain high above Victoria and has been instrumental in studying the night sky since opening more than a century ago. Its two telescopes has contributed significantly to our understanding of the Milky Way, magnetic stars and distant quasars and galaxies. But you don’t have to be an astronomer to appreciate the observatory’s research and findings. An enlightening planetarium show will make even the most complex astronomical concepts easier to understand. You will see the original model of the telescope that journeyed to the world’s fair in 1915. You will also see the original 2.2 ton mirror for the telescope, world events at the start of the 20th century made the journey of this mirror quite special.

Your adventure begins with a scenic motorcoach tour to a secluded mountain lake, where you'll board a Tlingit-style 37 foot, 20 passenger canoes which are fast, stable and easy to maneuver. Paddle under the direction of an experienced guide, scan the shore for wildlife and learn the unique natural and native history of the Ketchikan area. The lake, part of a lush rainforest, is ideal for canoeing and is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, the largest in the United States. Stop ashore for a Alaskan-style snack at a remote camp. Your knowledgeable guide will lead a short nature walk highlighting the flora and fauna of the rainforest. Paddle back to the canoe dock and reboard your motorcoach for your return to the pier.

Your excursion begins from Skagway on a 45 minute high speed catamaran ferry to small town of Haines, Alaska. Upon arriving in Haines, we'll start with a narrated driving tour through historic Fort Seward, the first military base in Alaska. Leaving town, we will journey through the amazing Chilkoot Valley. On our journey to the Chilkoot River corridor, we take in coastal views along the longest fjord in North America, we may spot seals, sea lions, porpoise and whales feeding in these rich waters. The Chilkoot River is home to some of the best bear viewing in Alaska! The river’s huge salmon runs bring good numbers of bears every year. Situated among rugged glaciated peaks, it is home to numerous brown bears, mountain goats, salmon, river otters, and innumerable bald eagles. This area is a birdwatchers paradise with abundant local and migratory birds. Powerful spotting scopes or binoculars will often allow close-range views of mountain goats grazing in high alpine meadows and nesting eagles on this tour. After capturing images and experiencing the incredible natural beauty and wildlife of the Chilkoot River corridor, we’ll enjoy a seaside picnic of wraps, chips, fruit, and cookies. Following lunch, we will head to the mouth of the Chilkat River, home to the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world. Our final stop of the tour is habitat to all five species of wild Pacific salmon, drawing all of Alaska’s predators to its shores. The four ice-capped mountain ranges that surround the Chilkat River provide an unparalleled photography opportunities. A short drive back to town brings us to the ferry for the return journey to Skagway. Do not forget your camera!

Your tour begins as you board a high-speed catamaran for a scenic 45-minute cruise to Haines down North America’s longest and deepest fjord. Along the way, you’ll witness spectacular views of waterfalls and ice-sculpted peaks as your guide helps you search for marine wildlife. Upon arrival in Haines, you’ll meet your guide and board our bus. Prior to heading up the scenic Haines byway on our 22 mile drive up the Chilkat Valley to the native village of Klukwan, we’ll explore historic Fort Seward by bus. Fort Seward is one of the first US military bases in Alaska and its picturesque parade grounds and historic buildings offer a unique insight to life in Haines during the early 1900’s.

After a 40-minute scenic drive through the Chilkat Valley and Bald Eagle Preserve, you’ll come to Klukwan, “Eternal Village” of the Chilkat people. The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve hosts some of the largest concentrations of bald eagles in the world.

You will gain intimate, in depth, exposure to the traditional lifestyle of the Chilkat people as their friendly and knowledgeable hosts walk you through the Traditional Knowledge Camp. This guided walk includes a visit to the traditional Adze Shed where their 37-foot dug-out “Heen Yakgaheiyagoo Yaakw” (Water Spirit Canoe) is stored and a short visit to the traditional smokehouse. Our visit to the Camp culminates in the Tlingit plank style, clan house, “Kaaya Haayi Hit,” with storytelling and interpretation of its totemic artworks. Presenters will share traditional songs and drumming that highlight their cultural heritage.

Our next stop is the, newly opened, state of the art, museum-quality center. The Heritage Center provides entrance to the Chilkat’s distinctive ethnic landscape with exhibits on their subsistence way of living, the Brown Bear Clan House, their legacy of Chilkat weaving, and more. Your native host will guide you through the educational exhibits and will share their personal experiences and insights along the way. Your visit to the Heritage Center culminates at the Whale Clan House of the Gaanaxteidi where the world-famous collection of four totems and the Rain wall screen are displayed.

Next, is a short stop at the gift shop, where you can shop for local arts and native crafts.

Before departing Klukwan for our return journey back towards Haines, we will enjoy a picnic lunch while overlooking the glacially fed waters of the Chilkat River.

Once your visit to Klukwan is wrapped up we’ll board our bus for the drive back to Haines. Upon our arrival in Haines, we will board the ferry for our return trip to Skagway.

Whales often breach the water’s surface in a magnificent display of size and power. Sea otters, sea lions and seals typically frolic near the rocky coast. You might also scan the forest edge for brown bears and black-tailed deer. A naturalist will be on board to explain the workings of this remarkable ecosystem as your skilled Captain maneuvers the vessel to provide the best-possible views. Following your viewing adventure at sea, you will drive to the nearby Alaska Raptor Center, where injured birds of prey receive medical treatment in hopes of releasing them back into the wild. Join this bear-viewing opportunity, which is accessible by road. You'll begin with a narrated eight-mile coastal drive to the forested area of Herring Cove located within the Alaska Rain Forest Sanctuary. Meet your guide and set out on a walking expedition to locate some of the black bears that call this area home. You will pass through tall stands of hemlock, spruce and cedar as you explore the sanctuary. An elevated boardwalk trail leads you to private viewing platforms overlooking Herring Creek, where bears often come to fish for salmon in the stream. The nearby Whitman Hatchery ensures that the river is teeming with salmon every summer. Typically, large numbers of black bears gather here to feed on these huge runs of salmon that are returning to spawn in the stream. Bald eagles perch in the trees, waiting patiently for scraps left by the bears. Take in the gorgeous scenery within the pristine Misty Fjords National Monument while flying in a DeHavilland floatplane as the bush pilot elaborates on the natural wonders below. This completely undeveloped wilderness sprawls across more than two million acres in the Tongass National Forest, America’s largest national forest. Majestic beyond imagination, the landscape is a mosaic of sea cliffs, misty mountains, deep fjords, thundering waterfalls, jewel-like lakes and dense rainforest, all of which you will gaze down upon from your own window seat. The exact route for the flight will depend on the weather. If you fly south, you will likely see shimmering Big Goat Lake and New Eddystone Rock, an immense volcanic spire that rises above the sea. The northern route usually passes over Neets Bay and Bell Island Hot Springs. Be sure to look for brown and black bear, Sitka black-tailed deer and bald eagles as wildlife is abundant.

OVERVIEW

Ride through some of Southeast Alaska’s most inspiring wilderness on a vintage railway that operated during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890s. As soon as the narrow-gauge train begins its ascent, you will understand why it is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.” The views will be spectacular in every direction as you travel 36 miles roundtrip along a route that the prospectors followed more than a century ago. Sights along the way include the aptly named Rocky Point and Bridal Veil Falls, a long roaring cascade that tumbles down a steep mountainside. You will pass through tunnels and over trestles spanning narrow gorges on the way to Inspiration Point. You will soon realize why this railway was recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Its design was highly innovative at the time and constructing the railway was an arduous task.
