Explore the old port town of Kotor, surrounded by colossal walls that fortified the city against enemy attacks. Its architecture is considered of great universal value. The largest and most impressive of these buildings is the cathedral of St. Tryphon. During the 1979 earthquake many monuments were seriously damaged, but the town has been restored, largely with the help of UNESCO. Start your walking tour with a fabulous view of the nearly 3 mile (4.5 km) long town walls which appear above you. Stepping into the biggest square of the Old Town, you’ll be taken back centuries to the period of Venetian rule.

The palaces of the noblemen are still the dominant perspective in the narrow streets. They lead you towards the wide squares lined with historical buildings. Visit the cathedral of St. Triphon, a unique example of the mixture of different art styles. You’ll also visit the Maritime Museum where you‘ll learn how the naval traditions were always an unbroken link between the citizens of Kotor and the sea. Along the churches of St. Nikola, St. Luke, St. Claire the narrow streets will bring you back to the Square of Arms where you started this medieval experience. Enjoy some free time around the square.
