Caesarea, Tel Aviv & Jaffa
hrs Estimate Duration
Discover the irrepressible charms of three of Israel's most distinct cities, fabled for their historical, cultural and religious significance.
Your tour commences with a drive north along the scenic Via Maris or Way of the Sea, an ancient coastal trade route. Your first stop is Caesarea Maritima, the seaport built by Herod the Great and named for his patron, the Emperor Augustus Caesar. Originally laid out on a grid, the city was conquered repeatedly over the centuries and today, you can wander through its marvelous treasure-trove of archaeological ruins. Another way to experience Caesarea is through the city's Travel Through Time computerized display, which presents a virtual tour of ancient activities such as racing in the hippodrome and theater performances.
Continuing on, you will travel to Jaffa, one of the world's oldest, continuously occupied cities, dating back nearly 4,000 years. Here, after a relaxing lunch, you will tour Jaffa's restored old city, a maze of winding cobbled streets. You might browse the artists' galleries, snap pictures of the countless churches and mosques, and behold the iconic clock tower. Over the centuries, the city limits of Jaffa have merged with Tel Aviv, a city that represents the wonders of modern Israel.
During your panoramic drive of Tel Aviv, you will view the original Bauhaus buildings along Tel Aviv's Rothschild Boulevard and then admire the Tel Aviv Art Museum and Golda Meir Center. There will no doubt be a moment of quiet reflection at Itzhak Rabin Square, which was renamed for Israel's Prime Minister who was assassinated there in 1995. After a photo stop, your coach will then make its way back to the pier in Ashdod where your tour concludes.
