Arcos & Sherry
hrs Estimate Duration
Discover the secrets of the famous sherry land in the province of Cadiz which produces the world-renowned Jerez wine. Enjoy a panoramic drive of the city while your guide points out the most important monuments and highlights of the city such as the Constitution Monument and the beautiful cathedral.
Head to Arcos de la Frontera, sitting along a ridgeline above the impressive cliff of Pena Nueva, it overlooks the winding Guadelete River and its broad valley. You’ll find the old town center at the highest point, with streets of white-washed homes cascading down the ridgeline. Traffic is restricted, making the town’s labyrinth of streets perfect for exploring on foot. As you walk, your guide will point out highlights such as Plaza Cabildo, and the golden cliffs to the north and out across the river plain. The old fort and Santa Maria church overlooks the square, along with one of Spain's state-operated historic inns, better known locally as paradors.
The road takes you to Jerez de La Frontera, a town with a climate that makes it possible to cultivate the different types of grapes that produce the three main sherry varieties. On arrival, visit a leading sherry producer. At the cellars, you’ll learn about the art of making sherry from grape cultivation until the liquor is bottled, followed by a sherry tasting.
