Panoramic Alpujarras Mountains
hrs Estimate Duration
Enjoy free time exploring several whitewashed Moorish-influenced villages, where you may linger at the areas that you find most alluring.
After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a meandering drive inland to Alboloduy, a riverside village on the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park. The guide will provide a brief introduction to the lovely whitewashed village, after which you will be free to wander about on your own. While much of the architecture in Alboloduy is Andalusian in style, you may also see the remains of a Moorish-influenced mosque and fortress.
Continuing on, you will soon reach Alhama, a gateway village to the mountainous Alpujarras region, which is known for its therapeutic thermal springs. Like much of the surrounding villages, Alhama has a Moorish feel; its name is derived from an Arabic word for thermal baths. You will also pass by Enix, another whitewashed mountain village with Moorish roots that lies on the winding road to Aguadulce.
Crystal-clear springs are abundant in the mountains that serve as a backdrop to Aguadulce, which means “sweet water.” During free time in the coastal village, you might stroll the palm-lined promenade that overlooks the beach and stop for tapas on your own. Aguadulce was once a sleeping fishing village, and seafood is still a specialty on most menus.
