DETAILS

  • 3 Days/2 Nights
  • Passport

Enjoy a beautiful scenic drive from the Richards Bay Harbor to Thanda Private Game Reserve. The integration of South Africa's best climate and rich bush land has made Thanda Private Game Reserve the top award-winning safari destination in South Africa.

DAY 1
Upon disembarkation in Richards Bay, you will be met by an English-speaking representative who will accompany you on your 2-hour road transfer to Thanda Private Game Reserve.

Thanda is a spectacular private game reserve set in 14,000 hectares of Big 5 indigenous bush. Thanda Safari Lodge is the reserve’s flagship property. Each of the 9 suites has their own majestic master bedroom, double sided fireplace, large bathroom and indoor and outdoor showers. The common areas include an inviting lounge, an expansive deck overlooking a watering hole, a cigar bar, a wine cellar and the Thanda Safari Spa.

On arrival at the main entrance gate, you will be met by game rangers who will transfer you to your lodge in 4-wheel drive open vehicles.

Later in the day, gather for high tea before departing on an afternoon game drive. These are conducted in 4-wheel drive open vehicles, allowing for total freedom of movement and the ability to leave the road and track down Africa's Big 5. After dark, spotlights are used, providing you with the opportunity to view nocturnal creatures and carnivores on the hunt.

Sundowners and light snacks will be served at a clearing in the bush following your game drive with the possibility of viewing several nocturnal wildlife species.

Return to the lodge to freshen up before dinner is served.

DAY 2
The day begins with an early morning wake-up call. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served in the lounge area. Depart from the lodge on an early morning game-drive.

Return to the lodge for breakfast followed by time at leisure to relax around the lodge.
Afternoon tea will be served after which you will depart on a late afternoon game drive.

As the day before, sundowners and light snacks will be served at a clearing in the bush following which you will continue your game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Dinner is served at the lodge.

DAY 3
After breakfast and check-out formalities, transfer to the main entrance where you will board a vehicle for your road transfer to Durban’s King Shaka International airport. The travelling time is approximately 4.5 hours. A box lunch will be provided for the drive.

Arriving at Durban’s airport you will check-in for your flight to Port Elizabeth.
Upon arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport you will be met and transferred by road to the Port Elizabeth Harbor where you will re-embark the ship.

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year.

Expected weather in February: Guests should expect rain at some point during the day.
The average temperature will remain around 31°C/88°F high and a low of 20°C/68°F.

ZAR (USD not accepted at the lodge – credit cards are accepted)

Electricity:
South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels and lodges have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms. If you bring electric equipment, take along an international converter kit complete with a set of adapter plugs. Outlets in South Africa require a three-pronged adapter plug with 3 round prongs. Adapters should be brought from home as not all will be provided. Be aware, however, that overnight recharging may not be possible where generator use restricts the availability of electricity.
