    Rome & The Colosseum

    Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy

    Duration 10 hrs

Journey back in time to ancient Rome, with a visit to the city's iconic Colosseum. The Romans built amphitheaters all across their vast empire, but this is the largest and most important of them all. Its four levels of seats could hold 50,000 spectators for bloody gladiatorial combat and wild animal fights. Continue to the Roman Forum, the centre of the ancient city's political, economic and religious life, hosting everything from triumphal processions to political debates.

Your next stop is the famous Trevi Fountain. This massive Baroque extravaganza was built in 1732 and features Neptune, god of the sea, surging forward in his shell-shaped chariot. After lunch, proceed to St. Peter's Square, designed and built by Bernini and visit St. Peter's Basilica. If time permits, you'll have some free time to explore on your own.

    Need to Know:

Note: Tour requires considerable walking and negotiating cobblestone streets, uneven terrain and stairs. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time, please dress appropriately - no bare shoulders, shorts or skirts above the knee.

Large bags or backpacks aren't permitted in St. Peter's Basilica. Your guide will join you in Rome, however you'll have an escort with you throughout the day. Offered on all Norwegian Spirit sailings and on Norwegian Epic round-trip Barcelona sailings only.
