    OVERVIEW

Cruise around Harrington Sound on a 30-foot catamaran and learn about the unique ecology of this large body of water that at first glance appears to be a land-locked lake. As you will discover, an almost imperceptible channel connects the sound with the ocean so the water is briny and tidal. The biodiversity is remarkable, as is its natural beauty. As you cruise around the sound – which was named after a 17th-century English countess that ironically never set foot in Bermuda – you will pass sea caves, dramatic cliffs and secluded inlets. You will hear about their formation, stories about the early settlers that lived along the coast and the marine life that inhabits these sheltered waters. You will get a close-up view of the creatures that live below the water’s surface in the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, where you may observe sharks, neon-colored parrotfish and moray eels.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Learn about the unique ecology of Harrington Sound while cruising around this lake-like waterway.
    • Pass sea caves, cliffs and inlets that add to the sound’s natural beauty.
    • Browse Bermuda’s aquarium and observe the local marine life up close.

    OVERVIEW

Zip through the streets and back alleys of historical St. George on an electric trike for an effortless exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage site town. After a briefing on how to operate the trike and a trial run, you will be ready to take off on a one-of-a-kind journey through downtown. Pedaling or balancing isn’t required like on a conventional bike so you can concentrate on the sights along the way. The exact route will depend on the conditions and traffic, but you can expect to see many of the most historical landmarks. They include where the rum runners operated during Prohibition, the Unfinished Church – which was started in 1874 and is still only partially built – and the site of Joseph Rainey’s barbershop before he returned to America to become the first African-American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. The guide will describe the importance of each attraction during the 3-mile ride.

    • See many of the town’s most fascinating attractions and hear descriptions of each one.
    • Admire the 17th- and 18th-century architecture that lines the streets of St. George.

    OVERVIEW

Ride a trolley train through the heart of St. George and discover fascinating facts about the history of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Along the way, you will hear about the town’s founding in 1612, it being Bermuda’s first capital and its distinction as the oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in the New World. St. George exudes history, especially through its 17th- and 18th-century architecture. From the comfort of the an open-air trolley train, you will enjoy unobstructed views of highlights such as Fort Catherine – which was built in 1614 overlooking the spot where the first English settlers arrived – and the gothic-style Unfinished Church, which some locals consider to be cursed because its construction suffered so many setbacks that it was never completed. Bermuda’s natural beauty will be on display as you pass Tobacco Bay Beach, a gorgeous sliver of sand sheltered by a natural breakwater of large boulders.

    • See the historical highlights of St. George from the comfort of a trolley train.
    • Pass landmarks such as 17th-century Fort Catherine and the Unfinished Church.

Another exhibit will allow you to investigate some of the triangle’s strange phenomena on a simulated dive to an airplane graveyard at the bottom of the sea. A driving tour through Hamilton will reveal the official northern point of the Bermuda Triangle, after which you will pause for photos of one of the island’s most beautiful pink beaches.

Best explored on foot, your experienced guide will make the history of Quebec come alive as you walk the charming cobblestone streets of the Old Town. In the heart of the Lower Town, and site of the first settlement of Quebec, is Place Royale. The typical stone buildings surrounding this historic square were once the homes of wealthy merchants. Along its narrow cobblestone streets you'll find an array of quaint boutiques, specialty shops and outdoor cafes as well as strolling musicians, jugglers and street performers. From Lower Town to Upper Town, enjoy a short funicular ride to reach the Chateau Frontenac area. Perched on a hill overlooking the St. Lawrence River, the castle-like Chateau is the most well-known landmark in Quebec. It was here that Roosevelt, Churchill and Mackenzie King met to discuss their strategy during WW II. In front of the Chateau lies the romantic boardwalk of Dufferin Terrace. From here, enjoy a spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River, Ile d'Orleans and the Laurentian Mountains. Continuing through the walled city, pass Place d'Armes, the Seminary of Quebec and the Ursuline Convent before returning to your ship.

If you’re interested in religious history, or just in the mood for a scenic leisurely drive along the St. Lawrence River, you won’t want to miss this trip to the world-renowned shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupre. With over one-and-a-half million visitors and pilgrims making their way to the shrine each year, Ste. Anne has become one of the most important Catholic sites in North America. After a narration by your guide en route, you’ll be able to independently enjoy the lovely grounds and major sites of Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Built in medieval style, the most prominent structure is the Basilica. The impressive cross-shaped building is covered with granite and lit by over 200 stained glass windows.

The Scala Santa, built in 1891, contains a replica of the Holy Stairs which Christ climbed before being sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. The Memorial Chapel was built to commemorate the third church constructed on the site. Departing Ste. Anne, a stop will be made at the spectacular Montmorency Falls. Cascading down a 272-foot (83 meter) cliff, Montmorency is one-and-a-half times as high as Niagara Falls. At the Albert Gilles Copper Art Museum, be seduced by the art form of repousse, masterfully interpreted by the craftsman Albert Gilles whose talent served prestigious people like Pope Pius XII and Walt Disney. Also admire the 'Life of Christ' in 50 hand-wrought silver panels (15 years of labor). His work can be found in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre Basilica as well as in many churches throughout the north.

    OVERVIEW

Hear enlightening commentary about the British overseas territory of Bermuda on a scenic drive to a resort in Somerset Village, where you will indulge in a traditional English tea. The British influence will be apparent most everywhere you go, beginning with the Royal Naval Dockyard. It was established as a British base of operations between Nova Scotia and the West Indies after the English were defeated in the American Revolution, and it was used militarily until abandoned in the 1980s. Bermuda’s first settlers were British – although they arrived inadvertently after being shipwrecked in 1609 – and the self-governing archipelago still follows a parliamentary system based on the United Kingdom’s. Heydon Chapel is perhaps the earliest reminder of England’s presence as it was built in 1620. You might contemplate all that you have seen and heard about Britain over a spot of tea, scones and cakes at the waterfront Willowbank resort.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Settle in for a wonderfully scenic drive and hear commentary that highlights the attractions.
    • Recognize Britain’s deep influence in Bermuda, which is still a British overseas territory.
    • Enjoy the quintessential English experience – a traditional tea with cakes and scones.

    OVERVIEW

Observe the wonders underwater through the transparent bottom of your kayak while paddling through the sheltered waters off Ely’s Harbour in the West End. After a brief orientation to ensure that you maximize the experience, you will ease into a two-person kayak and paddle off into the harbor’s typically calm and clear waters. You will glide past shores lined with environmentally friendly mangroves, pause to admire the dramatically eroded cliff known Cathedral Rock and gaze out over Wreck Hill, where the Sea Venture supposedly wrecked in 1609 stranding its English crew and passengers. You may also paddle around the beach-rimmed islands that dot the natural harbor and stop to swim. Even so, the most unusual part of this adventure is watching the marine life through the kayak’s clear bottom. You may see brightly colored blue angelfish, striped sergeant majors, princess parrotfish and spotted eagle rays, all of which are native to Bermuda.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Paddle around Ely’s Harbour and observe the marine life through the kayak’s clear bottom.
    • Look for schools of brightly colored fish and other native species such as eagle rays.
    • Pause at coastal wonders such as Cathedral Rock and paddle past mangrove-lined shores.
    • See the spot where the first inhabitants of Bermuda were shipwrecked.

In 1785, Saint John became Canada’s first incorporated city, and a few decades later, the stunning Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was built in Gothic Revival style, a significant landmark and place of worship in the city. The Great Fire of 1877 destroyed much of Saint John and the rebuilding took decades, the reason there are so many architectural styles downtown. After the fire, the Trinity Anglican Church’s current structure replaced an earlier church that had stood on the same site since the late 18th century. The City Market narrowly escaped that fire, and its Second Empire Loyalist design offers a glimpse into the building styles of the late 1800s. Enjoy free time here and explore its vibrant atmosphere and local offerings. Additionally, experience the natural wonder of Reversing Falls, where the Bay of Fundy’s powerful tides collide with the Saint John River, creating a breathtaking phenomenon —quiet time travel for the soul from old Saint John to the harbor city you see today.
