At the White Pass & Yukon Route Depot, board a vintage railcar for a ride up the White Pass Summit. Take in the incredible scenery as your train ascends dramatic mountains and your guide shares colorful stories and the history of the gold rush. Marvel at the waterfalls, tunnels and historic sites you pass on your journey to the summit of the White Pass and beyond to Fraser, British Columbia. In Fraser, disembark the train and board a motorcoach for a dramatic journey past the Tormented Valley and Pitchfork Falls en route to Skagway. Your Driver-Guide will regale with a colorful account of the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Taking views of the surrounding mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers may be captured during the many photo stops. Next, you will head to Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp for a salmon bake buffet. Enjoy wild Alaska salmon grilled over an open wood fire, baked chicken, a variety of salads, beans, rice pilaf, cornbread and dessert while in the destination of the recreated tent city from 1898. After your meal, wander through the Liarsville camp, named for the journalists that reported from the area during the height of the Gold Rush. The final stop will be the world famous Red Onion Saloon. Enjoy a drink with one of the "madames" as they regale you with tales of the girls who worked in these historic rooms. Walk through the Brothel Museum and take a step back into Skagway during the historical Gold Rush. Finally, depart the Red Onion Saloon and return back to the ship.

OVERVIEW
Ride through some of Southeast Alaska’s most inspiring wilderness on a vintage railway that operated during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890s. As soon as the narrow-gauge train begins its ascent, you will understand why it is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.” The views will be spectacular in every direction as you travel 36 miles roundtrip along a route that the prospectors followed more than a century ago. Sights along the way include the aptly named Rocky Point and Bridal Veil Falls, a long roaring cascade that tumbles down a steep mountainside. You will pass through tunnels and over trestles spanning narrow gorges on the way to Inspiration Point. You will soon realize why this railway was recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Its design was highly innovative at the time and constructing the railway was an arduous task.

It is off to the historic and magnificent White Pass Train adventure. From an antique parlor car, enjoy the incredible scenery while your tour guide shares the stories and history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Upon reaching Fraser, British Columbia board your motorcoach and take a short trip to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Then it’s time to experience the country that you heard about! Breathe pristine air, taste wild berries in season, hear the roar of raging white water and thrill to the sensations of a swaying walkway over 60 feet above the rapids. There are Tagish First Nation Staff and Elders to answer questions about the site. A variety of First Nations art pieces and crafts are available for purchase, as well. After your experience at the Yukon Suspension Bridge, you’ll continue on your motorcoach for the journey down the west side of the White Pass Canyon. Listen as your driver/guide entertains you with stories of the stampeders who trekked through the pass in search of gold. Relive a bit of Alaskan history through experiences that reflect the gold rush days of Skagway. For an understanding of the importance of sled dogs both past and present, you will visit a musher’s camp in Dredge Town and watch these canines demonstrate their strength and stamina. Prospectors in the gold rush era used the breed to pull their heavy, gear-laden sleds through the snow. You will also pan for gold just like those prospectors, except gold will be guaranteed in this case and an assayer will be nearby to weigh and evaluate your find. You will see the route the prospectors took in Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 by boarding a private car on the White Pass Railway and riding to summit of the pass, where you will celebrate the occasion with a toast. A costumed guide will describe the attractions as you take in the breathtaking panoramic views.

This excursion combines a trip over the Klondike Highway with a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad, leaving you time for further exploration during your visit to Skagway. This tour is presented in multiple foreign languages simultaneously.
Your experience begins onboard a comfortable mini-bus whose large picture windows afford spectacular views as you travel through Skagway and north along the Klondike Highway up through the West White Pass in the St. Elias Range. This is the highest coastal range in the world, and one of North America's most scenic mountain roads. Re-board the train and enjoy a hearty box lunch as you travel along the shores of the lake and onto the village of Carcross. A high speed catamaran to Haines, a rafting adventure in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve and a riverside picnic make this a wildlife tour of a lifetime. Your tour begins as you board a catamaran for a scenic 45 minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Along the way, you’ll witness spectacular views of waterfalls and ice sculpted peaks, as your guide points out marine wildlife. Upon arrival in Haines, you’ll board a motorcoach for a relaxing 40 minute drive up the Haines Highway, a National Scenic Byway, to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. You’ll see historic Haines and Fort William H. Seward on this narrated drive. Watch for moose and swans in the marshlands as you head up the Chilkat River Valley.
At the preserve, experienced guides await to begin your rafting adventure (not whitewater). You’ll float silently down the river aboard 18’ inflatable rafts — the best way to observe eagles drawn to feed on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also frequent guests at the feast.
